    Great Family Vacation

We are so impressed with this place and can't wait to go back! Family of 3 and everything was perfect with food, rooms, pools, beach, entertainment. No complaints. The weather was mostly overcast but we were happy with that. Yes the bugs weren't great but bring bug spray and you'll survive. The restaurants book up quick so make sure to book them prior to visiting or the day of arrival. The staff throughout were so wonderful and always happy too. We can't wait to return!

    Unforgettable!!

We had a fabulous once in a lifetime memorable trip at the Bahia Principe Fantasia resort. This resort is an excellent choice for families with young children. With their pristine and exclusive beaches, hospitable staff, excellent and plenty of food options and restaurants and most amazing kids club, we were spoilt with so many options at this beautiful Carribean resort. Only improvement needed is in upgrading room furniture and accesories which sometimes looked old., worn and outdated. Other than that, oevrall atmosphere and vibe of the property and its staff is very positive and relaxing especially the added benefit of accesing other Bahia properties that are in the same vicinity. Will be going there again

    Not a very good experience

The hotel was very nice and clean as well as the room. The room service was very good too. The water park is the best thing in the hotel. The swimming pools are nice but not very clean. The food was the worst thing specially the buffet, no variety, not a good quality food and tasteless. You need to wait half an hour in the queue to get an omelette. Avoid all kind of seafood as its frozen and not fresh, I got poisoned from one of a la carte restaurants when I ordered steak and lobster tail. Also the Japanese restaurant is full of cockroaches (on tables and on the floor walking around our feet) We went to the beach and there were no towels around 12pm and they said clean towels would be available in half hour, we left around 5pm and still no available towels. Avoid the staff in the reception who offer to take you to a nice shop which is outside the hotel, they mislead you with the description of a very nice shop with good prices, the truth is it’s a small local shop in very suspicious place. AVOID THE CLINIC IN THE HOTEL, it’s a big SCAM. unfortunately my son had diarrhoea and we took him to the clinic in the hotel, the doctor checked him and said we need to take him to hospital right now when we asked what’s wrong with him he said that he’s not qualified to see kids under age of two so we need to see paediatric at the hospital. We refused to go to the hospital because my son didn’t need a hospital treatment and the doctor was texting someone while was scaring and convincing us to go to hospital which was his plan to get us pay the hospital fee for nothing. He charged us $205 just for checking him and he didn’t even said what was wrong with him (which was a stomach bug), the question is if he’s not qualified to see young child why he didn’t mentioned that from the beginning why he checked him and charged us for nothing. Unfortunately Punta Cana is a beautiful place but full of scammers even in 5* resorts. We will never come back again.

Was not impressed been that this hotel was rated as a 5 star.

Affordable, I do recommend the Italian restaurant on site was the best however, the food service in the main dinning area needs alot if improvement. The pool closed early in the evening. Had to wait in line to get your meat cook during lunch and dinner service, other items on your plate get cold by the time you get your meat.

A good experience, but things have changed

We have travelled to the Dominican Republic 7 times over the years and stayed with the Bahia Principe on 6 of those trips. This is the second time visiting this hotel in the last 5 years, an things have changed. This trip we travelled with not only our 2 children, but my mother in law as well, so we had 2 rooms. The check in process was somewhat seamless, other than trying to get 2 rooms beside each other (bit of a mix up at first, but in the end we had 2 rooms on the same floor with a room in between so no big deal) The rooms are in need of updating, but for the amount of time we spent in them, they were fine. We found that the AC unit was perfect in our room and a little "weak" in the other, but no need to call maintenance about it. The beds were comfortable (for us anyway) and the rooms were clean. The hotel offered a "Butler" service in the past to tend to your room, restaurant and excursion needs, but have switched that to a Family Concierge" individual who sits at the entrance to the room blocks, who basically takes care of the same types of things. We pre-booked The a la carte restaurants (5 of the 7 nights), using the Bahia Principe App prior to arriving at the hotel and had no issues..well.. at least not with the food. It was challenging at times to find someone who spoke English (The hostess at the Steakhouse didn't speak a word of English, but we figured it out in the end and had a good meal - no need to stress about it) All in all the food quality at the a la carte restaurants is better than at the buffet and highly recommend booking your dinners there. Since this is the second time we have travelled to this Hotel we had something to compare things to. We noticed that the food at the buffet was quite repetitive, and one could get tired of the same options night after night ( why we chose the a la carte options) The breakfast and lunch experiences were as same as the dinner..repetitive. All in all, no one in our group went hungry and I'm pretty sure a couple of us gained a few pounds upon our return home. We travelled in somewhat of an "off-season" and found no issues with overcrowding at restaurants or at the pool. There are 2 pool options here, one that is on the quiet side, and the other has the pool bar and is where the entertainment happens. We had no problem finding loungers with umbrellas at any point of our stay. We prefer the pool, but did travel to the beach one day. The beach is a ten minute walk, or a 3 minute trolley ride through the Bahia grounds. The beach is clean and again, no issues finding loungers with shaded umbrella type huts. The beach vendors were present but we found that if you refused there offerings (unless you wanted something from them) they pretty much cease and desist. I was close by when a gentleman wanted to return the cigars that he just bought 5 minutes prior, because someone told him they were fake (And they were - I smoke cigars regularly and know how to tell) but the seller wanted no part of the conversation and walked away..quickly (Buyer beware) The evening entertainment was decent and geared around the kids..but then again the majority of the hotel caters to kids, at least there's something to do in the evening. I have read a lot of prior reviews about this Hotel and I can't say I agree or disagree with what people have said. Everyone has their expectations, likes and dislikes and draw conclusions and opinions from there. Personally, we were a little disappointed that after the amount of times we have stayed in the DR at Bahia Principe properties that we didn't qualify for any type of "Loyalty" program or offered a token upgrade of any type. They have a "Privilege program" that you can sign up for, but it wasn't for us (Went to the info session one of our previous trips) That all being said, we plan to travel to the DR again next year, but will strongly consider another hotel chain outside of the Bahia Family. Hope this helps a few people out there who may be on the fence about travelling to this property.
