Definitely not a 5 star hotel… dated facilities, many unfriendly/unwilling to work employees and poor quality food.

Definitely not a 5 star hotel… dated facilities, many unfriendly/unwilling to work employees and poor quality food. We had privilege access and even they didn’t want to work much… tried to do many changes to the restaurant reservations and it was a mess. The quality of the food was dubious (2 out of the 12 members that travelled got food poisoning). Also saw employees going to the toilets and not washing their hands afterwards… great! Akumal is an OK 5 star hotel, Coba a 3/4 and Tulum an OK 4 star. Definitely won’t come back. Also tried one of the private tours to Chichen Itza via 2Coming in the lobby of Coba and even though it was only us, the guide (Florenzo) was too “tired” after lunch to make us a tour, so he ended up resting in the car multiple times… perhaps if he had drank less wine at lunch would have helped.

    About Coba

I travelled together with my 5 years old. Hotel was very nice, big in the beginning we need to remember where we stay but after couple of days it was easy :) so no problems to walk around. our room was big, bed was comfy and big, bathroom had bathtub and with big tubs of shampoo balsam and duschreme so I didn't need to bring that with me. There is hair drier. We had cleaning every day. I think it was 1 day they didn't come. We had new towels every day and mini bar was refilled every day. The food was very good at food truck and buffet restaurant was good there is of course some food we liked and some not depends on your taste. My kid was most happy with breakfast at buffet lunch at food truck or snack restaurant and dinner at buffet restaurant. Drinks was good, milk was good. The animals was very cute and friendly. Staff are very nice and friendly and helpful. Many guests that stay at hotel are from Kanada they were super sweet. The beach was nice too, easy to go there with this small cars, its both sand and stones in the sea. Warm temperature in the sea, in the pool areas it could be little cold sometimes but it was ok. Some days in pool was almost like in the sea especially after rain. The kids waterpark was amazing fun many slides my kid loved it. Kids club was great she wanted be there one whole day and they send u photos of what they are doing on WhatsApp. In the evening they perform some days from what they were rehursle during the day. Very good entertainment both from kids club and then circus, magic show and other shows. If you want to buy chips or candy or other regular supermarket stuff you go to Oxxo that was the only thing i think was annoying, 12 us dollars for chips... Otherwise we were very satisfied with our stay in Mexico we filled safe and enjoyed every day. Don't forget have umbrella in your room you get it in reception. We were there 2 weeks and it was raining maybe 4 days. Good to have. Im very happy we chose this resort. And I could come back here again. :) Thank u!

Great for relaxing but not for night life

Pros • Selection of pools and wirlpools • Wildlife • Seperate vegetarian section • Premium drinks available • English widely spoken by staff • Staff are friendly • Tui staff on site and happy to help • Al a carte Indian restaurant had an amazing vegetarian meal • Great selection of vegetarian food in buffet restaurant, but will need to look around. • Foam party in the pool • Free shuttles around hotel, shopping complex (but expensive), and beach • Beach has geo tubes to prevent strong waves and seaweed problem. Wish I went to the beach sooner if I knew there was no seaweed problem. • Free deckchairs on the beach • Can call a free pick up from the hotel to the lobby when checking out so they collect luggage. • Clean and comfortable room. Cons • Vegetarian section was the same every day. It consisted of eggs and boiled veg for breakfast and Indian food for dinner. Would have been nice if there was a different main vegetarian meal each day in the vegetarian section. • Night life was mainly a singer singing in Spanish • 2 hrs away from the airport • Little vegetarian options in other al a carte restaurants, other than Indian. • Fridge in room was only stocked with 1 coke, 1 Fanta, 1 water and 1 beer a day. I asked if I could have several bottles of coke, which was provided that day, but not restocked.

    Nice place

We had an amazing time there, the people are so friendly, and everyone there is so helpful and makes sure that your time there is the best. It would be impossible to say enough good things about everyone from the Kids club (Juli, Velaria, Jasmine, Ami, Cynthia, Karla). They are unbelievably talented and provide awesome entertainment for kids. My favorite restaurant in Akumal is Dolce Vita , amazing service and great food.

    Disappointing food and drinks

We travelled as a grandma, husband and pregnant wife, and a 3 year old. There were lots of things that we enjoyed but a lot of specific issues that made our visit unpleasant. Let’s start with the pros.. The staff was incredible. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful and kind. The a-la-Carte dinners that we had were very good, and had a wide variety of options. We were there for my mother’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make the dinner very special with a little fire show for dessert. The pools and waterpark were great, and we always had access to chairs. That all being said, there were quite a few things that I would consider to be cons.. First of all, the resort is quite run down. Every little nook and cranny is cracked or poorly repaired, and overall it does not look well kept. Railings on the pool bridges and around the lobby are being eaten by termites and destroyed by mushrooms and fungus. The drinks were disappointing to say the least. Everything was made with a premade mix, no real fruit or fruit juices, and liquor was quite cheap and you could taste it. There was also massive inconsistencies in the bartender’s knowledge or capabilities. One would make a drink completely different, missing ingredients or using different ones than others. You had to know exactly what was in the drink prior to ordering and clarify that to each server. Although the food at the a-la-carte was good, the buffets and snack bars were disappointing. You cannot take food away, which is challenging when you have a toddler. Anyone with a kid knows that they may not eat instantly and being able to bring it to the room is a huge help. You could usually find a couple items that were edible but all four of the people in our party would grab a plate, get back to the table and realize that 70% was inedible. Cheese sauce tasted like cheese wiz, and was watery one day and chunky the next. There was never an egg dish that we would eat, as the fried eggs were crispy, and the scrambled eggs were soaking wet. The only guaranteed edible breakfast food was bacon, but you had to circle like a hawk to be there when the employee brought a new tray out, and then wait in line because it would clear out in minutes. We were only allowed to book 3 a-la-carte dinners, and very quickly got sick of the buffet during our week stay. That being said, even if we were allotted more dinners, I don’t think we would have been able to book any as the restaurants were all booked up unless we could dine at 9pm as individuals. Unless there were some pretty significant changes and updates, we would not stay here again.
