    Resorts is not well maintained

Check in process was seamless, however, they made us wait until 3pm to access our room when the resort was definitely not at capacity. It seems as though the resort is at 50% or less capacity based on many restaurants not being opened, the buffet being empty and staff sharing how drastically their hours have been cut or them being laid off because of low occupancy. Room We requested a King bed and they have us 2 doubles. It was quite the hassle to get this changed and when I asked why we were given this room type when we requested and booked something else, the Concierge informed us that our request was based on availability. It was a simple oversight and she should have just apologized and got it changed. The resort is empty, so availability of rooms is not the issue. We had to follow up several times before the room was changed. The original room was terrible! As soon as we walked in there was a wet, damp, moldy smell. I turned off the AC and the smell didn't seem as strong, so I assumed it was coming from the vent. My husband started sneezing and within 20 minutes I had a headache. The drapes have an old, dusty, mild smell, the washroom is so outdated and in need of repairs, mildew/mold in the shower and overall in need of some TLC. After following up several times we finally were given a room with a King bed. This room didn't smell as bad, but there was no shower gel, no drinks in the fridge or enough towels. The mattress is old, flat and uncomfortable. Internet/WIFI Was very spotty and often times jumped off the wifi Food Most of the a la carte restaurants are terrible with the exception of The Knife (steakhouse). The Knife is nicely designed, new and the food was very good. They are also very rundown and not well maintained. The food is mediocre. The buffets have better food. While dining at Mikado (Japanese hibachi style restaurant) we witnessed cockroaches running around where food was being served. I went to the bathroom and as soon as I opened the stall, saw 2 more running up the wall. There was no soap in the dispenser, thankfully I saw a staff member and informed her and it was filled up. We chatted with 2 other families at our table and they both confirmed that they have seen roaches in food areas and 1 family confirmed roaches in their room. They warned us not to keep any of our bags open while in the room. Privilege Club Absolutely waste of money! Concierge is not friendly and not very helpful. The rates aren't that much different than the regular rates. All you get when you arrive is a cheap bottle of champagne and a plate with desserts that can be found at the buffet. You can get premium alcohol, but only in the 3 designated bars. Overall The hotel is in rough shape. They clearly are not investing in the upkeep of the rooms and common areas. The buffets seem to be the only area that has been updated and I heard there was a fire in one of the buffets which may be the reason it's been updated and looks nice. The other restaurants are old and rundown. The common areas (elevators, foyers, hallways) are very outdated and in deplorable conditions with missing or damaged tiles and in need repair. They seem to paint over everything thinking its going to look better, however paint can only do so much. A lot just needs to be replaced or repaired. The staff were very helpful and friendly with the exception of the Privilege Club concierge. There are so many nicer resorts in Jamaica that cost the same or a little more. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place.

My stay at Bahia Principe was enjoyable and memorable. Every staff member I encountered was courteous and always had a smile. Drinks was plentiful and food was always coming. My choice of dining were the Buffet Bars. Mainly because I had a choice of whatever I wanted. My favorite Buffet of all was JAZMIN. It was quiet and welcoming. All servers at JAZMIN was awesome. One staff member stood out and made our dining experience always pleasant, her name is CHUDI ANN JOHNSON. She made us feel as if we were part of the Bahai Principe Family which we now are. We will miss each and every staff member, our room attendant, bell hop KHRIST FORRESTER, SHEVESHA NELSON, TAKHEKA BLACK, STACEY HAWTHRONE, SASHANA SPENCE, SOPHIA CLARKE. WE CANNOT FORGET THE LANDSCAPERS. BOY! THOSE LAWNS AND PLANTS ARE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD. THANK YOU GUYS ALL SO MUCH FOR A MEMORABLE VACATION.

My Recent Visit to Bahia Principe, Runaway Bay

We had a wonderful experience at the Bahia Principe Resort in Runaway Bay, St Ann. This property is quite large but that did not take away from the experience. The landscaping was beautiful. Rooms cleaned daily and refreshment and towels replenished. Our favourite restaurant was the Jazmin Buffet restaurant. We found the supervisor, Chudi Ann Johnson and the team there extremely cordial and they made sure we were always ok. On a whole I found the staff members at the resort very warm and very helpful with a desire to make each guest feel welcome. We will surely stay at this resort again.

Great job of Refreshing and Renewing the Resort

This review of Bahia Grand Jamaica (BGJ) is based on a trip my wife and I took from 1-FEB-25 thru 11-FEB-25. Also of note, we have stayed at the BGJ on several occasions and are basing our review comments on the resort over time. BGJ has done a great job of refreshing and renewing the resort. Several notable updates include: The main buffet restaurant Nyam, The Round Island Food Market, The Jerk Center, The Knife Restaurant and Updated room décor in parts of the resort. These updates show an effort by BGJ to keep the resort a top destination in the Caribbean. Like for any resort, there are some areas of improvement. 1 - With most BGJ trip reservations you have an opportunity to make dinner reservations at À la carte restaurants. There are a number of excellent restaurants to choose from so make sure to take advantage while there. However, the reservation system for the restaurants is an absolute disaster. You are pointed to (1) Kosk in the lobby or using the Bahia App, but good luck making a reservation. The only way to attempt making a reservation is with the Customer Service agents in the lobby. This process is slow and cumbersome. Bottom line Bahia you have to fix this! 2 – One of the absolute gems, of any resort in the Caribbean, is the BGJ Sunset Bar. Unfortunately, Bahia has failed to recognize this, and the bar has fallen into disrepair and is closed. If I was BGJ I would stop everything I was doing and get the Sunset Bar opened ASAP. Review Summary – My wife and I have been winter vacationing in the Caribbean for almost 15 years. The cost per value proposition with BGJ can’t be beat. The property, restaurants, food, entertainment, beach, accommodations are on par with the best resorts in the Caribbean. Awards – Now for my yearly awards to the staff at BGJ. The two categories are “Lobby Customer Agent” and “Restaurant Server”. Lobby Customer Agent – Treshana N. Restaurant Server - Yanesh

    Disappointed guest

The hotel no doubt is huge and rooms are spacious but bathroom is down in the dumps. Shower heads do not work and despite complaining nothing is done about it. On check in day the lady who served us did not smile at us at all and had an attitude about her. She was being difficult when we requested 2 keys for the room door and did not give us the second key. She made us feel very unwelcome. We experienced same attitude with the staff who served during breakfast. We were made to wait a lot longer for our coffee compared to American guests. This has totally put us off this hotel. We will not recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Staff should not have an attitude and each and every guest should be made to feel welcome especially as the country heavily depends on tourism.
