We have stayed at the Barcello 6 or 7 times. Every time, it has been excellent. Good food, excellent staff, stunning architecture and greenery.

Jan 21, 2025Very Disappointing - Not worth the high prices
An extremely disappointing stay at this hotel. Sadly it is more like a 3-star hotel than a 5-star hotel and definitely not worth the high price tag. The noise levels are intrusive. At night you can hear discos and entertainment when you are trying to sleep. My room was dirty - the floor especially. Not surprisingly I saw three cockroaches in the week I was there. The shower/bath was also filthy. I was not able to adjust the temperature of the air-conditioning so I had to choose between the air-conditioning being on blast, which turned the room so cold that I shivered all night. Or turn it off, which soon left the room humid and uncomfortable. There was no happy medium. When I asked for extra blankets because of the air-conditioning situation, they arrived old, stained and dusty. They had clearly been gathering dust in a storage cupboard for several years. Also, the bed was way too hard and uncomfortable. The meals sit out under warm lights for hours until the meat becomes tough and very dry. On the whole the food was very average with little variety - the same meals every day. Unfortunately my sister had a heart attack whilst I was on holiday so I had to fly home five days early. Although the hotel promised to refund me and told me the refund would take 3 weeks (see proof of email from Maya Caribe attached), it is now over 6 weeks and I still have not received a refund. I no longer believe hotel staff were being honest when they said in writing they would refund me. It appears that the Barcelo Maya Hotel chain are not concerned with behaving ethically. Upon checkout, the hotel asked me to sign a blank document. I refused and explained that I would not sign an empty document but once they filled it out I would sign it. However, they kept insisting for me to sign it but wouldn't fill it out first. Eventually I left for the airport without having signed it. The business practices of this hotel are very suspicious and not reflective of international standards - certainly not of an hotel claiming to be 5-star. Staff were arrogant, aggressive and not at all friendly. Please be careful before choosing to stay at this hotel.

Solid place, but don’t stay on the 1st floor or near the mall, it was very loud with children running around. Solid place for the price, not 5 star, 3 to 4 star. It’s hard to maintain such a big facility which took away from the special feel with service

The resort is so beautiful and so large that it doesn’t really feel like there are many people there. This was our second stay there in the same room Premium Level Swim Up and the resort didn’t lose its appeal. However the rudeness of the neighbors did take away from the relaxation of having your own pool and the walls are extremely thin (you hear everyone’s conversations). Drinks are decent and it definitely matters what bar you go to and the food is good at the buffets but doesn’t vary much in what is served. The restaurants between the resorts are better at Premium level but there is a large variety.

Jan 14, 2025Waste of money - Think twice about booking this place.
Went with my family ( 6 of us - all adults ) So many things went wrong. ( which we told the front desk) No hot water, none of the faucets worked in the tub area. The air conditioner always leaked at the our front door, had to put towels down so we didnt fall. Will never go to the Caribe again. Spent alot of money for poor service, food wasnt great and entertainment during the day - THERE WAS NONE !!! Think twice about booking this place.
