Weekend getaway
Beautiful beach. Food is ok in some restaurants and really bad in others. Nice reception at the lobby. The premium rooms are nice and clean. There is nothing to do for kids but nice and quiet for adults.

Amazing resort with wonderful Caribbean beach!3
I stayed with my nephew at Catalonia Bayahibe for 6 nights between 31st Jan - 6th Feb. The hotel is located in Bayahibe - La Romana, one of the most beautiful areas of DR and probably the best beach: Caribbean crystal clear water and clean smooth light brown/white coloured sand ( NO sargassum at all here! ). The hotel is located about 45 min to 1 hour (depending on traffic) by car or taxi from Punta Cana airport). We were welcomed at the reception with a cold refreshing drink and the check-in process was smooth and informative! After that we were guided to our Privileged Deluxe Room with amazing view of the gardens. The room clean and modern with all basic amenities. They welcome you with a bottle of DR rum as a present and french macarons! All the drinks inside the fridge are free and are replaced daily if consumed. There is also water bottles for teeth brushing since the tap water should be avoided. The room is cleaned quite often and the towels are changed daily. The pool, the beach and the restaurant areas are all beautiful and well maintained. The gardens are amazing and perfectly preserved. The sunbeds are separated according to room type/hotel section but most of the other facilities are used by all guests equally. For some restaurants (dinner) you need to book a day or a couple of days ahead but for the main buffet (breakfast-lunch-dinner) you are free to enjoy with no booking. Everything is all inclusive: food, sallads, snacks, desserts, fruits, drinks, coffee, water etc. There is lots of food variety of good quality and taste. There are also bars/cafes to grab something to eat or drink. There is also a place serving crepes of your choice close to the beach. Water and ice provided by the hotel (even when not bottled) is safe to drink. Beach towels you get everyday from the personal close to the pool. The thing that people wake up early to secure their sunbeds by leaving their towels is true. I don't agree with this tactic but i think everyone finds a place even later as we did. If you really really want a place in the front shadow rows you will get it if there between 07:00-08:00 am. There are shops with everything basic you might have forgotten at home or need during your vacation! Prices quite normal. There is also a gym and in case you want massage/face/body treatment you need to pay extra at the spa. There is entertainment daily and excursions ( Saona island etc) are offered with extra charge by the hotel ( just ask the reception and they will guide you). In general all the people working at the resort ( reception, rooms, gardens, restaurants etc) are doing an amazing job and please understand that they are doing their best to make us feel comfortable! Just smile :) The only negative for us was the WiFi which was disconnected often and the signal was difficult to reach the beach area. Catalonia Bayahibe thank you very much for an amazing stay!!! It was memorable!!! I hope we can come back this time next year! Thank you, Stefanos Tsiaprazis

Beautiful water, clean beaches and zombie staff with sucky food.
Beautiful looking place. Water has great colors , beaches are kept clean. Front desk staff and house keeping are friendly, smile & say hi and will make small talk, The grounds are cleaned and properly maintained. Aside from the blue shirts walking the ground every day who almost convince you with sincerity talk. They genuinely tell you "what a beautiful family" followed by " where are you from?" This is then followed by the semi aggressive sales pitch to pay now for your return vacation & save money. You'll need to dodge them everyday for the remainder of your time there. The staff is generally uninterested in your existence, unless you are bothering them for something outrageous, like a salt/pepper shaker. We met, talked to, & enjoyed our time at the bar with 1 bartender, (sadly I can't remember his name) The other bartender at the bar closest to the water left the vacationers up to who was next in line & seemed to enjoy the bickering that ensues when the line is cut. Same bartender (who could communicate just find with English chooses not to speak. Instead you must wait for his gaze when he looks up, if you're the lucky one to make eye contact with him he lifts his head up raising his eyebrows at you. this is your cue to shout out your order before a louder or more aggressive customer beats you to it. I stopped saying thank you to him since he didn't acknowledge your courtesy. The guy, the only guy that works in the snack truck is simply miserable. He too uses the stare at you technique, again your cue to order. Any "Hi" Hey what's up" or even " thanks" is a futile attempt and ANY sort of communication. My wife & I got on the beach massage. They were great! The heavy equipment pneumatic hammer (working on the property demolishing and old existing structure pounded continuously the entire time... and every freaking day 6 - 7 hours a day. For those who don't know what this is, it sounds like a continuous pounding or a slow machine gun dook dook dook dook dook dook hour after hour. if possible I'll attach a video. The food was mediocre. Overall ? Do you & your travel companions a solid and avoid this place.

A Wonderful Stay
This hotel was wonderful. The beach was the greatest takeaway. My boyfriend and I visited Bayahibe late November and stayed there in room number 3222 with a king size bed. The room was very cozy and relaxed. The her/him double sink and rain shower were so convenient and stylish. The food and service were great. All the staff greets you with a smile on their face. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for New Year's Eve to their Adults Only Hotel next door . We had a blast! There were so much food and drink. There was a variety of fresh Seafood, best cuts of steak and champagne everywhere. A cheerful and romantic ambience with live music by the pool area and at the beach bar felt like a honeymoon to us. I would highly recommend both hotels, the Family Friendly and Adults Only. Both were over top. We can't wait to go back!

A train wreck
Some days it was like watching a trainwreck in slowmotion. The staff worked but it was so badly organized that little came of it. Food and foodservice was a disaster – breakfast and lunch was some days un-eatable, and you were lucky to get a warm cup of coffee. Rooms. Nice but too many things were broken. There was an ice-bucket, but no ice-machine. But never mind, you couldnt have a drink in your room anyway, only at the bar. In the refrigerator there was only sodas and water. Not even a beer. Dinner was ok 3 out of 7 nights, however the service was so slow, that I sat through dinner without as much as a glass of water. I lost 4 pounds in a week (not hating that) Gardens. Very nice and well kept. You should have the head gardener take over the whole thing. Pool was nice. However, most days you could not use it because of the terrible noise from the construction site next door. Reception said that guests had been warned, but I had not, and there was no compensation? Beach: Very nice. But hard to get a sunbed as people reserve them with towels from early morning, and the resort did nothing to enforce their policy against it.
