    An honest review

OK have just stayed here for 2 weeks in January 2025, with my wife, and wanted to give an honest assessment of the place. Firstly, on arrival the initial impression, is that its much smaller then previous hotels we've stayed in at this location. The reception leads to 6 residential blocks were the guests stay, and has a walkway which goes directly through the centre of these blocks down to the beach. It's a jungle-esque setting, so obviously you'll see plenty of coats, agouti, birds and the occasional iguana (one of the reasons we chose it). At the end of the walkway is a decent sized pool, the main restaurant, and then a superb beach, its set on Xpu-Ha beach, which other tourists pay to enter, so you know its going to be good. For those who snorkel, there are a number of reefs both left and right of the hotel beach which you'll see sting rays, and countless other fish ( I was lucky enough to see an Electric Ray and a Mobula Ray while there). The rooms - we specifically asked for a ground floor room to allow a close up of the hotels resident animals. Sadly the room smelled damp, but we persevered as it is a jungle environment, and we're rewarded with numerous personal encounters with coats and agouti, as well as the Mayan Jay's. The rooms are dated, and damp, our clothing actually was moist by time we left such was the effect of the dampness. The room itself is sizeable, and adequate. Restaurants - the hotel boasts 6 restaurants and for those wishing to upgrade, a 7th BeLoved for privileged guests. For evening meals you have to prebook, and this is on a first come first served basis, I did find it surprising that they don't have a buffet restaurant on an evening which would offer choices, not sure if this is a cost cutting thing or not. The meals - again adequate, not bad but considering these are supposed to be individually prepared meals from a menu, certainly not outstanding. On an evening they have a limited entertainment program, which weather permitting, is sited near the pool bar. Let's just say we've had better elsewhere ! The Beloved package is offered to all guests arriving, who can upgrade for $50 per person per night. These rooms are apparently an upgrade to the standard rooms, albeit not significantly so. For that price you get an extra 2 dishes choice on each of the menus at the restaurants ( again given the quality of the food I doubt it would be an upgrade), and as explained earlier the privileged guests have a separate restaurant to dine in, however not sure how good this was as the privileged guests seemed to dine were we ate ! There is a roped off area on the beach for exclusives, which is surrounded by sunbeds for non privileged, oh and you get a cushion for your sunbed !!! For me the cost isn't worth the upgrade, I'm sure others will suggest otherwise who have paid it to justify it, but the benefits don't outweigh the cost. Summary - we enjoyed the stay, but for the cost, we could have got better. The rooms require updating, the meals require attention, and the evening entertainment certainly needs looking at. But the wildlife and beach certainly don't disappoint.

    Lovely

Rooms are lovely, beach and pool area are super nice and food was good (especially the show dinner at Rauxa). Bartenders and servers are all very friendly and accommodating. Bernardo at the pool bar was excellent and Diego from entertainment was super friendly and inviting. Entertainment staff worked hard to provide fun experiences each night and adapted through the rainy nights. We enjoyed our stay 👍🏼

    9.5/10

This place could use an indoor venue for their entertainment at night. When it rains they move the shows to the lobby. Other than that the resort is beautiful, the staff are super friendly, and the beach is incredibly well kept. Diego from the entertainment staff and Bernardo the bartender were standouts. We had a great time as a couple.

    Fantastic experience

Absolutely fabulous experience. I read so many reviews prior to arrival and I was very nervous about what we would encounter. The staff were all amazing, kind, helpful, communicative, and service overall was wonderful. We had so much wonderful food. Sometimes we'd order something that wasn't so great, but the joy of all-inclusive is that you could then order something else. In the end there were always delicious options. The first drinks we had at the beach bar weren't fabulous, but at Bloved and the Margaritas bar they are awesome. It is 100% worth it to upgrade to the privileged package and for us we loved the romance package. It included a romantic dinner on the beach one night and a 30 minute massage for each person. Plus they gave us a split of sparkling wine. Some people complained online about the animals, but I found them to be a delight. So cute and adorable, I loved seeing them as we walked the beautiful trail through the resort. The beach was stunning and felt so private and special. They have kayaks, SUPs, and a hobie that they'll take you out on for free. So fun. And there are loads of fish, so make sure to bring your snorkel. We had no problems booking restaurants, I never saw a single mosquito, I didn't smell any negative smells. I was so worried based on other reviews. I look forward to staying at this resort again in the future. Loved it. The only real negative is the only hot tub they have is in the spa inside and has to be booked. They really should have a hot tub.

    All we wanted!

We loved the Staff, the food, the drinks, the size of the resort, the water, the beach, the activities, and how comfortable we felt. Just be prepared for the humidity which caused a musty smell in our room. I definitely would go back and recommend this for those who like a quaint place!!
