Great beaches. Great staff. Lovely views. Rustic.

The hotel is in a lovely spot. 30 mins or so from the airport. The staff are great. Shout out to Kris and Dana who couldn’t have been more helpful. Initially we were given room 21 which is a bit of an up and down trek from reception with steep steps at the end to get to the room. The hotel were happy to move us to room 16 the next day and took care of all the moving for us. Rm 16 had a better view and is much nearer in terms of getting to breakfast etc. All the restaurant staff are great. Also a shout out to Kerry-Ann on the grill bar who looked after us every day and kept the Rosé flowing. The grill menu is ok but doesn’t vary but it is convenient. But the restaurant lunch is much better and more varied - it was a pity this wasn’t available at the grill bar too. We went to the Valley Church beach everyday which is beautiful. The sunbeds are a little heavy to move and due to the fixed position of the umbrellas it is slightly difficult to find shade in the afternoon. I think investment in more modern lighter weight sunbeds and more mobile umbrellas is called for but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment. The room is best described as shabby chic. Rustic is a great description. But everything worked and the daily room service was excellent. If you like bright white shiny tiling and shiny taps and modernity then this isn’t for you. If you like originality and rustic and a lovely outside shower then you will love it. The resort is a bit hilly so don’t underestimate the very steep hill up from reception and numerous steps (109) to the Valley Church beach . If you have mobility issues this resort is definitely not for you. The hotel is very clear and open about this. For us it wasn’t a problem as we are fit and the uphill walk helped to burn off the lovely food and drink. Final words? Everyone in staff was lovely and for me this is what makes for a great holiday. We were given a free late checkout time which was very kind. Reception are responsive and helpful. Omario on the bar is a real character too. This hotel is head and shoulders above the last place we stayed in Antigua (the Galley Bay). Cocos is better in every way particularly the beaches. It leaves you with a lovely memory of Antigua and we will return.

Resort had a chance to be great, but it’s hard to relax without working toilet and lack of reliable communication system

I love the concept of a resort with bungalows built into a hill along the Caribbean coast. The location and vegetation at Cocos are stunning. Check in was easy, WiFi login by QR code and room key is a physical key. Need anything, they give you a number to text or you can use WhatsApp. We had a sunset view cottage. Initially given room #17. Room was clean, and very rustic. Air conditioning blew very cold. Toilet was very weak with water pressure. After discovering toilet issues, a text was sent, and a reply was received several minutes later. Maintenance came out and worked on the toilet until it was fixed. Great guy, but we were down a toilet and bathroom access for 2 hours after checking in. Sure, we could’ve gone down to use the courtesy room, but that is quite a hike up and down the hill. After our first night, which was quite chilly with the AC (not complaining), we woke up, went out for a nice beach walk and then stayed down at the lower elevation for breakfast. When we got back to our room our AC was off. We waited until after lunch to see if it would come back on, on its own. After it did not, we texted the front desk. No reply. Half an hour later I text again. Finally 1.5 hours after the initial text I get a reply that maintenance has been notified. Maintenance comes and expertly fixes the remote and gets the AC on. Day 3, we go on an excursion, come back, use our newly rebuilt toilet, and again the toilet fails to flush. Not what you want when you get back from a boat. Maintenance is notified, we go to beach to hang out while we think the toilet is being worked on. We give an hour, walk to front desk on the way back and ask if toilet has been fixed (because I don’t wanna walk back down if it’s still being worked on, or hasn’t been checked yet). I was assured it was fixed. We hike up to the room….its still not fixed. I hike back down. While I’m down talking to front desk inquiring about a room change, the maintenance man shows up to fix the toilet while my wife is in the room. Toilet flushes for him no problem. Not sure what the issue was, seemed like a water pressure/supply issue. The manager, Kris, put us in Room #21 for the next day. Our new room was much better, toilet flushed with proper authority and AC worked as expected. Beaches are beautiful. Valley Church beach was probably our favorite to relax on. The bar and grill are great spots to relax at. On the Jolly Beach side, the beach chairs need some TLC, and they could benefit from a few more. The paddle boards and kayaks are a little weathered, but they were fun to use. The outdoor shower took a bit of time to find as it’s tucked back by the pool. The pool infrastructure needs some TLC. Broken tiles and dangerous decking Surround the pool. Watch out for nail heads poking from the deck around the sunbeds at the far end of the pool ready to poke into bare feet. Pool was refreshing, but could use more frequent cleanings. I liked all our meals, menus always had several good options to choose from. Service was good and the view was spectacular. Unfortunately my minibar preference sheet was not fully followed. Vodka, rum, tonic water, beer and local juice was checked off. Upon arrival we have everything but local juices. After the 2nd day of no local juices I sent a text asking if some could be delivered. After an hour and twenty minutes, a text is received that juices will be delivered. Juice Is delivered and delicious. It’s not restocked Monday. Again requested via text on Tuesday. 4 hours later I get a reply that juice is going to be delivered. After that juice, I never got any more juices delivered. On our final day our request for a replenishment for vodka was unanswered. I gave up. The text system is good in theory, but a huge customer service liability if not checked or executed properly. It was a relaxing week, but it could’ve been so much more. In its current state, I don’t think I could recommend Cocos to a friend.

    Paradise.

The minute that we arrived I fell in love! After a long flight and then a short drive from the airport we arrived at this beautiful hotel. It was our third visit to Antigua but our first to Cocos. The last two times we stayed further up the coast, the hotel was perfect but not so the conditions for swimming! The welcome at reception was warm and friendly and we were quickly taken to our room (24) by golf cart. It was a steep hill and then forty steps down but worth the effort for the amazing view. As we walked in we were completely taken aback by the view. Going out onto the terrace was breathtaking. The room was simply furnished, a large four-poster bed with mosquito net, bedside tables, drawers and a cupboard with minibar. The hanging space was by the entrance door and there were plenty of hangers and space for suitcases. There was a safe too. The bathroom was out of this world, a large space with double sinks, plenty of towels, full size toiletries, a toilet with a view and a door leading out to the shower. It was the most wonderful sensation to shower outdoors, looking out to sea, the birds, the vegetation… something I will never forget. The terrace had two chairs and a traditional hammock and was south facing so plenty of sunshine. We only had to use the air-con for a short while in the evening. At night we used the ceiling fan. We did have a couple of mosquitoes but no bites. We did use spray after sunset. The room was cleaned every morning so when we returned at lunchtime there were fresh towels and everything clean and tidy. The minibar was stocked with your choice of drinks and there was a small bottle of brandy and rum. A kettle, tea and coffee, cups, glasses etc. There were two water bottles which you could fill at the water stations throughout the property. The food at Cocos was out of this world. The restaurant has a jaw-dropping view, plenty of space between tables and amazing staff. It was so nice to see food with a local touch, not the bland international food served in many hotels. The waitresses were so friendly and patient, attentive and made us feel very welcome and valued. All food was served at the table, not a buffet in sight! Breakfast was delicious every day and we always tried the daily special, I can’t remember all the dishes but the saltfish and the mackerel were fantastic. The fresh pastries exquisite, it was so tempting to choose something from the basket/tray they brought around. The coffee was plentiful and hot. The fresh fruit beautifully presented. We had lunch everyday in the main rstaurant, it felt so nice and relaxed. The menus were varied and tasty. By the entrance there was an area with tea and coffee - even cakes and biscuits or mini sandwiches, you could just help yourself, at any time of the day. Every evening we tried a different cocktail at the bar, prepared and served by Omario or Ronald, it was lovely to chat to other guests and take in the view. The feel was very relaxed and most guests dressed informally, my husband enjoyed wearing shorts. Even though the restaurant was open on all sides it never felt cool. Dinner was long and relaxed, fresh bread was served at the table with a dip/spread. There was a wide choice of wine although I would have liked a semisweet white. All three courses were delicious and the fish was always accompanied by fresh vegetables. Everything tasted home-cooked and fresh. Desserts were simple yet tasty. We had a few drinks at the beach bars. Both beaches are beautiful but we preferred Jolly beach, there were comfy loungers and umbrellas. We did sometimes have to wait to get fresh beach towels. We went out in a kayak and enjoyed the view from the bay. We had no problems with beach vendors! We walked to Jolly Harbour a couple of mornings. All in all we had a wonderful and very relaxed holiday. It was so quiet, no noise from neighbours or loud music, just the sound of the sea. A lovely calm atmosphere, great food and drinks and very attentive service. The property is beautiful, yes there are steep slopes and steps but nothing too much (we are both in our sixties). The real pride of Cocos has to be the wonderful staff, it’s so nice to see everyone happy and enjoying their work, from reception, to cleaners, gardeners, maintenance, waiter, bar staff, a wonderful team. We will certainly return to this little slice of paradise!

Most beautiful gem in the Caribbean Sea. We truly enjoyed the peaceful setting, wonderful service and great food. I would definitely recommend Cocos resort to all of our friends and family. Thank you especially to Kris, he was always there to help with any questions we had.
