Honeymoon 10 out of 10
Bed was comfy, room was amazing and the staff was top tier. I would definitely stay again. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that you won’t want to leave. We had the room with an oversized terrace which made the experience even more memorable.

Not what we were expecting.
I don't know where to begin, so I'll just list some reflections: 1. First and foremost, review your invoice upon check out. They charged me close to $600 MORE than what was listed on my reservation confirmation. I am SOOOO glad I checked and got it resolved before leaving. Manager, John Phil, was accommodating but it was the icing on an overall less-than-stellar experience. We even had a bar bill that had to be corrected because we were overcharged. 2. If you are going to use a white interior room decor, please switch out the pillows, robes, sofa covers, towels and other items once they are stained. It makes me question the cleanliness of everything and does not present a luxury or near-luxury image. 3. One in 3 staff members were pleasant. The others completely displayed there disdain for being there. It's one thing to not want to be there and it's another for the guest to experience that feeling. I am used to exceptional customer service and this disappointed. 4. No beach dining/beverage service, no beachcombing (seaweed all about), rusted beach chairs, 2-3 mismatched umbrellas, 2 beach attendants solely focused on phones - guessing they were part of the hotel as they were not in uniform yet were there all day. This is a big miss. 5. I reached out in advance of my trip (via email) for assistance and never heard back. I tried not to let that foreshadow the trip, but ultimately, it did. 6. The text messaging system was helpful and convenient. 7. Highly recommend the balcony room (only 6 I think). That was the highlight of the accommodations. 8. Great location. Overall, not the experience we are accustomed to and that was disappointing.

Good Not Great
This hotel could be great but I feel like they choose to be ok. Maybe it’s a different vibe when on “island time” but as great as the location was there were just certain things that fell short of what you’d expect when paying 500 plus a night for a hotel. The Good: Location- right on the beach. Although you can’t swim right in front of the hotel due to the rip and rocks the views and access to the beach is great. Walking distance to a lot of good restaurants and only a short uber from the airport and also to Old San Juan. The room- yes there a lack of hooks in the bathroom and places to store your things but overall we found the room to be comfortable and spacious. Nothing really to complain about here. The OK Service- depends on who is waiting on you. Wilfred and Carlos are great but some of the wait staff was indifferent and we had to ask to be seated on several occasions rather than being greeted and offered a table. This whole staff was not busy and talking amongst themselves. The Food- depending on what you order Tuna poke salad was great. Cuban sandwich not so much. Drinks overall were good and yes they are expensive but you are paying the view. Not just the drink itself. The Bad - The pool. Overcrowded and too small for the hotel. Pool is not heated and cold when sun is hidden after 1pm. Pool was never cleaned. Pool opens at 8 and best be down by 9am if you want to ensure getting a lounge chair by the pool. What is really mind boggling is that they sell day passes to the pool for non hotel guests. To a pool that is not big enough to accommodate the guests. And on the weekend understand they have a DJ and it’s a party for those non guests. Bad Bunni thumping non stop all day. Didn’t bother us but if you are looking for relaxing afternoon by the pool this is not that. You can get chairs on the beach to access the sun after it ducks behind the building in the afternoon. Which we enjoyed except the chairs they had on the beach were in terrible condition. Overall- would we return ? Not sure. It wasn’t bad. Just expected more and I think there a lot of little things they could improve that would not be a huge expense. I also understand that they have been hit by storms and the supply chain on an island is not what we have. So some leeway given. But so close to being a great hotel. Just not there. We have stayed at the Vanderbilt and yes that hotel is beautiful and a much larger campus. Budget there is large and should be for what they charge. But service there can also be spotty. We love San Juan and the people. The weather is great and enjoy visiting. We will be back just not sure we will book here again.

For Us Condado Ocean Club Was Disappointing
We stayed at Condado Ocean Club this past week, arriving early evening on Wednesday and leaving on Monday. The hotel is in a nice area with respect to its distance from the airport, distance to Old San Juan and the surrounding restaurants. I thought I’d share the pros and cons of this hotel, although I will start with a spoiler in that we would not stay here again. On the positive side, the hotel staff were professional, nice, upbeat and a great representation of the property. While we didn’t dine in the restaurant, I did get coffee (Latte’s) on 3 mornings. The coffee was excellent, and the staff served the coffee with a smile and the warmth that you feel from the people of Puerto Rico. We had food once by the pool; it was unmemorable. I had the chicken quesadilla, and my wife had an order of “tostones” (which she said were good). We’ve been to the island several times, and previously we’ve stayed in this area at Condado Vanderbilt. However, I didn’t book there this time based on the room rate (in hindsight I I wish I had). We went to the pool area on 3 of the days and the bartenders there were great – they made great drinks and were very accommodating. Here's what we didn’t like: • Room – the room design is just not good. o There is no storage except for what I’d describe as a single bedside-like table with 2-drawers in the closet. This was a small unit. There were about 4-5 hangers in the closet in addition, and there was a single small drawer on one side of the bed. I stored my clothes on the top shelf of the closet in piles – just not what we’d expect. There was a room bar with snacks and drinks and the doors were held together with a Velcro tie – again, not what you’d expect. o Pillows – this is personal, but there were only foam pillows on the bed, and we found them uncomfortable. I did inquire at the front desk and they didn’t offer any alternative (e.g. feather). • Bathroom - in general, the bathroom was functional as far as the shower and the products, but there was inadequate space for things like hanging towels, or a wet suit. There was a single towel hanger on the wall. The clean towels were on a sort of rack which was ok. but once towels were wet, it just wasn’t appropriate for hanging. • Housekeeping – we did not have our room cleaned, primarily because they showed up around 5:30 p.m. or thereabouts and by then we were up from the pool and getting ready for dinner. It was odd that for 4 days, whether we were out by the pool (all day) or in Old San Juan, we came back to a room that was untouched. I left money for housekeeping daily and found it on our return to our room (saved us $$ - LOL). In fairness, we did not bring this up to the front desk, and we were able to get fresh towels on one of the days when housekeeping came by. • Pool – the bartenders are great, and that’s the positive aspect. While I read reviews with complaints about the availability of chairs and towels, we had no issues on this front. However, the way the architects designed the building, we only had sun until about noon and then it was entirely blocked by the building and cold. The pool was also cold 79-80 degrees, and the pool areas is like a wind tunnel which contributes to the poor experience. The pool was probably the biggest negative for us. In my opinion, if you’re staying at the hotel, the cabana is not worth the price. It looked like most of the cabanas were filled with non-hotel guests. Last thing here, I would have thought they’d clean the pool daily, but they did not sand and plastic cups. I saw several poor reviews just before we were leaving but we decided to stay the course and keep our reservations. We’ll be back to Puerto Rico, but sorry to say we will not return to the Condado Ocean Club.

Good hotel but lacking on service
We stayed here for two nights before a cruise. The stay was fine but I would not stay here again. Pros: great location right on the beach; very nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant; good outdoor areas. Did not try out the pool but it’s a nice area. Room - comfortable bed, airy and bright decor, very clean. Valet attendants were very nice and helpful with some restaurant recommendations nearby Cons: Service in general was very lacking, almost non-existent; front desk staff was distracted and not very helpful and were hard to track down at times (during the day when someone should have been there); bartenders consistently ignored people (not just me) even with a manager sitting at the bar doing work on a computer (who also never bothered to look up or interact with any customer), it wasn’t even busy, they just ignored everyone; to get a drink, refill or the bill you had to flag someone down because not one single person would stop to check on a table; tiny hallway outside elevator on every floor which made navigating luggage and other people interesting Takeaway: In general this is a really nice hotel, so it’s really unfortunate…but the service was so abysmal that I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
