A Facility On The Rapid Decline.
Corallium Hotel & Villas Bonaire Very disappointed. What an overpriced poorly maintained property. Avoid this place. Bonaire is a small friendly island where visitors are welcomed. This place is not friendly and, in my opinion, they are looking to take every dollar from you that they can. They offer a best price guarantee and if you book directly with them and then find a lower price they promise to match the lower price. They do NOT do this. On site, they claim that that offer only applies to properties in the United States but their web site has no such disclaimer that I could find. Blatant FALSE ADVERTISING in my opinion! First, I booked my room and was quoted a nightly rate for the 6 nights. The rate included all taxes and fees. No extra charges! The online web site had a section called the “Fine Print” and per the Fine Print I would owe nothing else. When I arrived at his hotel, they wanted to add fees to my rate and call them taxes. Then a day later, they wanted to call them service charges. And eventually became resort fees. The additional fees amounted to a 27% increase in the price that I was being asked to pay. Not happy. For a 6 day stay the additional fees added $264 to the bill. Then I got to my room in a facility that thinks of themselves as an upscale facility. A high-end resort. NOT! My room which holds up to four people had only one wash cloth, one hand towel, no bath towels, 2 sheets of Kleenex and a ¼ roll of toilet paper. No spare TP. Then I noticed that there were no coffee cups, creamer or coffee. The place had advertised a BBQ, and I asked where it was because I was interested in using it. The desk clerk offered to deliver it to my room and agreed to call me to let me know if and when the BBQ would be at my room. Well, I never got the BBQ or the promised call day. They claim that there is coffee in the lobby 24-7. And yes there is but when I went to get some early Monday morning there were no cups available. No cups – No coffee. Such a fancy place. Tuesday morning at least 8 people brought their own cups to the lobby for coffee. Really? Lots of comments about why everyone brought their own cups and that the place is “no longer a Marriott” property. They have a little store on site. Water drinks, mac & cheese etc. But no spoons forks or silverware to use while you eat what you purchased. They have been out of utensils for many weeks per the desk clerk. No napkins but they have food. To my disappointment, I went to the pool on Sunday to relax and get a little sunshine but what I found was not relaxing. There were about 15-20 young children in the pool. I estimate their ages to be 1-9. The 1-year-olds are not potty trained. The others are screaming, yelling and throwing balls. But they do not look like guests of the hotel. None of them are using the green hotel pool towels. These visitors all have different towels and none of the towels are hotel towels. This looks like the families of the employees are using the pool area and occupying all 20 of the pool chairs. There was no room for paying guests. NOT what I want to see when I travel. As for the number of chairs at the pool, a facility claiming to have 112 rooms to only have 20 old stained pool chairs, not enough. Also the restaurant is not open very much at all. I think I was told that it is only open two nights a week until 8 PM. To further add concern to the pool there were multiple empty glass beer bottles on the pool deck and empty cocktail glasses. Glass should not be on the pool deck. Then there was the “Hot Tub, Jacuzzi” that was advertised. It is not hot. Not even warm. Broken, I assume. The bigger issue is that the place seems to be poorly maintained. There are weeds and gardening issues everywhere. In addition, there are damaged and or not working light fixtures around the property. Based upon what I have noticed, I am assuming that the place is less than 20% occupied. If that is the case, the lack of revenue would explain why leaves and gardening waste are not being cleaned up. Basically not a place that I want to return to. Even if the room was clean and bed was comfortable, they have a lot of issues. The real question is “Will the facility still be open in 6 months?” I have my thoughts on this matter. And I assure that when I return to Bonaire, I will NOT be booking this place even if they are still open.

Easy senior access to rooms and pool, convenient to airport
Until July this was a Marriott Courtyard and still has the decor and feel of a Couryard. it's much more a "business" vs. "vacation" vibe, and that makes for a peaceful and quiet atmosphere in the days I've been here. WHAT I LIKE: • front desk very helpful and there 24 hours. • View from my room, while not on the Caraibbean, is lovely though I don't know if the property sits on a man-made lagoon like the kind Florida has so many of or if it's natural. • It's clean. • There is no mildew odor as there can easily be in a humid clime. • Work out area is clean and a nice temperature. • Housekeeping staff is friendly, efficient, and professional. SURPRISES: • Though the Trip Advisor description and website says there is a restaurant (and even says it has "special diet menus," when I tried to eat there, there were 4 items available - a chicken wrap, a beef wrap, a tuna pizza and a cheese pizza. There are no other restaurants close by, so this was a big surprise. I ended up taking a taxi to and from the grocery store to help with food for the stay, though the frig is itty bitty (and no microwave). • My first-floor room had a lock to outside that was torn off the door (and they fixed it quickly when I pointed it out). There's no oven / microwave (maybe that's just in suites, but it's not specified in the description). • Advertised yoga classes, but none available. Anyone staying here should be aware that it is VERY close to the airport but after 2 days here, I've yet to hear air traffic coming or going. there.

Nice place with a strange ambiance
When I booked the hotel, it was still a Courtyard. Before leaving to Bonaire, Marriott wrote to us that this hotel was not anymore part of their chain and that our booking had been taken over by Corallium. We didn't know this chain but decided to maintain our booking. Upon arrival, the staff at the reception was OK but as this hotel employs a lot of hotel students, you can feel that it is sometimes a bit amateurish. But there is always a supervisor not far away in case of need. And most of them speak Dutch, which I appreciate. I absolutely needed a very good and reliable wifi as I had to pass an online exam during my stay. Pros: - The room: extremely nice, large, comfortable - The wifi: fantastic. I could pass my exam troublefree. - The surroundings: nice, very close to the airport and the capital Kralendijk was easy to reach by car. Cons: - The Wave restaurant: it should have been open for dinner from Thursday to Sunday. It was however closed and when I inquired at the front desk, they were initially not aware of it. The breakfasts were average. The nice Colombian waitress did everything to make us a nice breakfast, but she was dependent on the rest of the team. And the first morning, the food came apparently from outside. This resulted in my fried eggs being cold and the waiting time was extremely long. The next mornings, there was a cook on the premises and it improved somewhat. The hotel clearly had a problem with their restaurant... - The pool: closed during our entire stay for renovation. The hotel reception warned us upon check-in that it would be closed for "a couple of days". We would have appreciated to have the possibility to swim and cool down after a long day in the heat, but this was not possible. Alternatively, a discount on the room for the inconvenience would have been the logical way to reduce this inconvenience. A take over by another chain can be always challenging. Here, it clearly was. We had the feeling to be in an empty hotel, in a kind of twilight zone. I am not sure that I would come back to this place during a next visit to Bonaire.

Black mold in the rooms . Stay away
The worst experience at a marriott anywhere in the world. Mold all over the bedroom and bathroom ceilings. No management on duty during the weekend to talk to . I finally got a hold of the GM one week after we checked out, he said the right things on the phone but he never followed up or answered my messages afterwards. Stay away from thus hotel. Black mold is no joke.
