  Liked it, but don’t expect the Westin

  Let’s cover the basics first: If you are looking for high end island lodging, do not stay here. The price point is not low as compared to similar lodgings in, say, Idaho … but this is St. Thomas, so the market is what the market is and this place is not the Westin. If stairs bother you, do not stay here. There are a lot of them and if you are not able to manage that, stay someplace else. Boomers, this probably means you. Ok, cool. Basic hotel with old school hostel charm. Wife and I are used to staying in much more high end places, but enjoyed the rustic oddness of this place. Pool is terrific, views very good, sitting area lovely, staff mostly great if not a bit strange and lecture-prone. (Don’t blame Covid for lack of hot breakfast. It’s 2025. Just say you’re cutting expenses.) And I am not sure if they still call it a B&B, but it’s not. Breakfast is laughable and the boomers staying around us let the staff know, which was entertaining in that way that boomers can be when their wrath is not turned on you. Our bed was awful. Like a canyon. But mostly sleepable. Others said theirs was better, so cool. All and all, would stay again … the location is great and the place has its charms. But, you know, customer beware.

  Training for a marathon?

  The amount of walking up and down stairs to/from the hotel is TOTALLY unbelievable! Free breakfast is a joke; terrible coffee and stale breakfast bars. There is no ice machine for guests to use. No restaurant; no bar. Rooms are furnished minimally. Bed and 2 pillows were so uncomfortable. The shower was a step down into a concrete hole; no hand rails & no water pressure. The hotel manager and employees were very nice and tried to be accommodating.

  So many steps to an outdated, run down place.

  Run down place. We arrived after a very long, exhausting trip in hot clothes from a colder place we call home. After climbing their many, many steep stairs with our luggage, we were “greeted” by a non-caring young girl who said our room wasn’t ready yet. Okay, we were two hours early. Sweat dripping off us, a classier place would have at least offered water. Nope. Once finally checked in, no hairdryer.. grrr. Husband went back down the steps and got one from the office. Ice….. we were given about 15 cubes in a broken ice bucket. Went back for more hours later… and guess what… yup… no more ice. Bed was hard as a rock. Everything was so outdated. Pricey place but so not worth it! Find another place to stay.

  Booker beware!

  Booker beware! We booked Galleon House Hotel when we changed flights and needed a place between arrival & when our accommodations were available the next day. I knew it wasn’t the top accommodation on island and wasn’t expecting top notch service but the reviews were favorable so I was shocked at how different the room looked to the photos. The hotel most resembled a hostel-style accommodation, with our room being in a back hallway. It had a flimsy door with a lock, but we didn’t feel the safest and we could hear everything around us. The wall had water damage, was very dirty with unknown origins of stains, and the toilet broke upon first flush. My husband ultimately had to fix the plug in the back of the toilet as the staff was unable to figure it out (while also remaining on her group FaceTime call the entire time). The toilet broke again the next morning and we didn’t even bother to let the staff know, my husband just drained and fixed it again to help us get out of there quickly. The location was great to downtown Charlotte Amalie but safe to say we will never be back.

  Just go to one of the resorts. We actually paid less to stay at Blue Beards, which is heads above this. Just don't settle for

  2 older females with some joint issues and thousands of steps are not a good combination! It was HELL. We never left our very hot room until it was time to drag our luggage back down those thousands of stairs! There was no hot homemade breakfast as was supposed to be included. They did have some continental type items. They also tacked on an extra resort fee. This was NOT up to the price they charged. The AC alone ruined the trip. View or no view the steps and the AC made this a nightmare
