Love this resort-home away from home.
This was the 3rd time to this resort. This time my sister and her husband joined us on our 2nd day out of the 10 days we were there. We stayed in the Riviera Platinum Building. When we arrived we saw that Leonardo(the concierge) was sitting at his desk. We met him last year when we stayed in the same building. He remembered us and greeted us like family. When we walked up to our room there we noticed a welcome banner on the door(not everyone has one-which made us fell special). The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the only issue was that the pillows weren't "flat" enough for my husband lol The resort was a lot less busy than it was at the same time last year (Feb 2024). We were told about the new management and the changes to the VIP system. We were hoping to eventually get the VIP status since it was given after your 5th stay but now its changed to 31 stays. There is no way in our lifetime that we will get to that so we may be trying a different resort next time. I think the change in the VIP program upset a lot of people, that were loyal to this resort. The first night we arrived around 4pm and Leonardo was able to make us a reservation at our favourite restaurant Mama Mia. Our waiter was Pedro who was very attentive and the food was excellent as always. Second night we went to La Fleur our waitress was Maria and again we had great service and great food. We went to La Vaquiera our 3rd night and our waiter was Hugo who was very friendly and helpful. Three of us ordered the steak, 2 of them were good but the other was all fat -not edible. We also tried La Hacienda restaurant again. We try it every time we go to the resort (2023, 2024, 2025) and we were disappointed again . Unless something changes we will not be returning to that restaurant again. We always ate our breakfast at the Snack Riviera buffet. We met our waiter Humberto early in our stay and made sure to sit in his section every day. He was friendly, helpful and always smiling. He made us fell so welcome and he seemed happy to see us. He always remembered our drink orders and our names. The breakfast buffet was good but the toaster needs to be upgraded-even after putting our bread in it 3 times the bread didn't toast, only got warm. They also need to refill the fruit more most mornings the fruit dishes were empty and stayed empty while we were there. We always went between 8-9am. We had supper only one night at the large buffet at the front lobby. There were a lot of choices-no one can say they went hungry at this resort. Our waitress was Ana and she was always refilling our glasses and cleaning off our table. We went back to Mama Mia a few times during our 10 day stay. Our servers were Samuel, Octavo and Narcisco, Pedro. They worked together and made sure we had everything we needed and seemed to enjoy their jobs. We had lunch at the sports bar and at the beach buffet beside the Poquito bar which has good food. We also enjoyed a meal at Miso Teppanyaki which is always so much fun and delicious. We took advantage of the free Hydro Therapy at the spa. It was so relaxing and we weren't rushed through the different stations. We sat around the platinum pool on the Riviera side for the 1st half of our stay. Angel and Alex were our bartenders/servers. They remembered our names and our drinks. My husband would go have coffee with them early in the morning before it got busy. The second half of our stay we met up with friends (we met at the resort the 1st time we visited in 2023) and sat at the Sunset Platinum Pool where we had Isobel Garcia as our server/bartender. All three of them become like family during our stay. We looked forward to seeing them and chatting with them all. We made sure to say our good-byes and give them all hugs before we left the resort. On valentines day, we were able to enjoy the piano player at La Fleur and take our picture with the LOVE sign in the main area. Leonardo(concierge) also arranged for us to receive a surprise in our room- a bottle of champagne and a chocolate cake. He is a very thoughtful and caring man. He made our stay so much more enjoyable by making sure we had our A la Cartes booked and that everything is our room was perfect. He goes above and beyond for his guests. The only issues we had was all the people smoking outside the restaurants, near the pools and in the open area between the Sunset and Riviera sides. We didn't see too many people using the designated smoking areas. We were also surprised to see beer bottles near the pool areas. If someone ever broke one of those bottles in or around the pool someone would get hurt. We will not be returning until after the renovations/construction. Hopefully when we do come back we will see Leonardo, Angel, Alex, Isobel and Humberto. They have become like family.

10th Anniversary Return
We were married at the Grand Sunset Princess 10 years ago and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. We have returned after 10 incredible years of marriage to celebrate. Because we don’t have wedding guests and children to worry about, we upped our game a little and went from Platinum to the Laguna Villas. Worth every penny to us. You come for the private pool and Cabanas but stay for the OUTDOOR SHOWERS! The staff was wonderful but the highlight was the community that has developed among the Laguna vacationers that seem to love coming back year after year. It will very likely be our next vacation destination.

Book somewhere else this resort needs major renovations! Don't Do It...
This resort is not worth the price and please don't book the rooms with the outdoor showers. The resort need major renovations. Food and drinks were just okay. Food was the same everyday and we were there for 7 days. Staff members were okay, we did have some really rude ones! The grounds were in need of major landscaping and our room was horrible. We were moved twice and our room still had to be bombed for cockroaches🪳 because it had more bugs than the room we moved from. We even had to request to have our toilet seat change because it was so disgusting. We request a cleaning supplies, so that we could clean the room after they bombed it and was told that someone would be over to clean the room, which took like 4 hours for them to come. Our view from the room was horrible look like we were in swamp land! A lot of things around the resort were broken even the walking boards on the walking path, so at night you had to be really careful. The resort was really boring. The dinner reservations were a joke and transportation to these dinner reservations were non-existent. We had to do a lot of walk and sometimes over a mile to get to these restaurants. After you get to the restaurants it's so hot you can't even eat. There is no air conditioner nor are there any fans. Yes, I do understand I'm in Mexico and it gets hot but there is no circulation in the restaurants. If you order room service they tell you to leave your trays outside your door which all the animals run up to it including the crows pick through it and food is left all over the front of your door space. We were constantly stepping over trash in front of our door. This resort was a waste of money and vacation time. I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves. I did not take pictures of everything because I was just over it and I knew nothing was going to be done. I was just ready to come home 🏡😔. Worst vacation ever!

Wonderful stay!
Every year, a friend in the UK and I book a warm weather stay. Her travel agent always books for us both - this time a junior swim out suite. This year, they booked the Rivera Princess. I was a little nervous after reading some of these reviews. However, our stay was really nice. The rooms were palatial, if a bit old. Housekeeping was marvelous, keeping everything well stocked. The grounds are gorgeous, and the variety of wildlife on display was delightful. Staff everywhere were generally friendly and helpful, with the exception of one grumpy lady making omelets in the morning. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the food quality was a bit inconsistent. We had dinner in one of the a la carte restaurants each night, and some were better than others. La Fleur was the best in my opinion. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

Excellent food and amazing service
We stayed 7 days and were very happy with this resort. We have been to many different resorts in Mexico and DR and it was hard to find fault with this one. The room was spacious and comfortable and in building 7, close to the pools and close to the restaurants and buffets. We did not upgrade to Platinum and found the basic room and services completely acceptable. Don't feel you're missing out (unless you insist on premium brands of alcohol or an ocean front room which are offered at Platinum.) The ALAcartes were excellent - I loved every single meal. You could not starve at the buffets either - lunch and breakfast were very good. The highest compliments must go to the staff - they were so friendly and did everything to make our stay comfortable. One or two dollars tip is very much appreciated (US $) and $10 for dinner. My only concern was the lack of elevators. They were not in the basic buildings and the one in the main building was not well marked. THere are LOTS of stairs to get to the ala cartes from the main level. We did 2 tours - Rio Secreto and Maya Adventures. I have posted reviews for these on their pages. Maya Adventures was excellent for snorkelling. It was red flag at the beach, so we spent more time at the pools - LOTS of loungers - no need to run out to save.
