Winter vacation 2025
My Wife and I just returned a couple days ago from the Royalton Rivera Cancun diamond club. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. This was our 7th all inclusive in Mexico that we have stayed at and we have never been to the same one twice. Our Butlers Caesar and Valeria were awesome and checked on us often to see if we needed anything as well as looking after all our restaurant bookings. The bar and wait staff at the diamond pool were great too! We both agreed that the food was the best we have had at an all inclusive. There is a bit of a bad smell in spots around the resort but it comes and goes. It’s from the giant swamp the resort is built on. The resort is located in the middle of nowhere so getting out and about can be expensive so this resort is best for those who just want to kick back for their vacation without a lot of exploring. We don’t go to the same resort twice but if we did I think we would consider going back.

Overall Great!!!
Only get Diamond Club if you want to be away from the kiddie pools.. I highly suggest skipping it if you are traveling with kids! However it’s a great service for other things, such as butler service, more relaxing pool areas, and designated beach area.

A very good 4 star experience
When we booked this resort THE REVIEWS were very good but then a flood of negative reviews came in which had us worried. We opted for the DIAMOND CLUB upgrade. CHECK-IN was a breeze, they took us to the Diamond Club lounge to check in and were offered a drink, something to eat, and a chat giving us an overview of the resort. THE ROOM was nice but yes, dated & could probably use a reno. We were in building #3. There was a bit of a smell in the room initially but honestly it's just something that you get used to after being there for a day or two and really didn't bother us. Maid service was adequate and someone came to stock the mini fridge daily with beer, pop/juice & water. No hard liqour although we were provided with one free bottle of our choice by our Butler. There was also some one-time snacks , red & sparkling wine awaiting us in our room. The AC in our room seem to work intermittently throughout the week, but it wasn't a big issue for us and we opted out of the turndown service at night because it was strange having a third person come into our room unexpectedly in the early evening. We had two BUTLERS, Alonzo & Jocelyn. They both did an excellent job of checking in with us each day letting us know what was going on at the resort, asking if we needed anything or if there were any issues. You can make requests through the app for things for your room, or reservations but I didn't find much success with that. But every time that I asked the butler to look into something or make a reservation they were right on it and the request was completed in a reasonable amount of time. THE RESORT itself is a bit dated in some spots, the older pool areas certainly need to be redone, but it wasn't really a deal killer for us. We enjoyed our time by the pool and the service at the diamonds club pools was better compared to the main pool. Overall the hotel has cleaning going on all the time. Staff are working very hard to keep it clean including all bathrooms which was really nice to see. We had heard stories about the relentless MOSQUITOES which concerned me as I often get feasted on. But the problem only really seem to be at the beach. We didn't have any issues at night or near the pools. The sand at the beach is very nice and they try their best to clear the seaweed which seems pretty relentless due to the wind. But honestly the beach wasn't the nicest. It was kind of murky looking. We strolled the beach but didn't spend a lot of time there and after we got a few bites we resolved to stay by the pool. The resort seemed generally busy, but because it's so spread out with many different options, you never really had to stand in a big lineup for anything. There are many different pools, easy to obtain chairs. Lots of different food options & bars to choose from. The negative reviews had us concerned about THE FOOD options, but let me tell you the food at this resort is outstanding, one of the best we've had at any all-inclusive throughout the Caribbean. If you can't find something you like here then you're just too picky. Everything tastes fresh including all the breads and pastries. I never witnessed any undercooked food nor did I ever witness any improper handling techniques. We ate at many of the different options including the buffet, the a la carte restaurants, the pool grill, the food truck and even the coffee shop. People get sick at resorts for many reasons and I feel many people still do not wash their hands enough or don't take care of themselves throughout their vacation. They drink too much lowering their bodies ability to fight infections and their kids have even worse hygiene habits resulting in illness. We were very paranoid about getting sick and practiced vigilant hygiene habits and we were very happy with the food at this resort. The nightly entertainment was okay. There were some good nights and some not so thrilling nights. But overall there's a nice variety of performance and live music. We found THE STAFF here to be incredibly friendly and hard-working, not pushy or aggressive and gracious and thankful when we tipped. The resort appeared to be well staffed. There is a small amount of CONSTRUCTION during the day. They're constructing a wedding gazebo near the main pool. We did not have a room near this location, but can imagine it would be a bit annoying if you were trying to relax near the hammering. I feel like they probably should complete this non-essential construction in the off-season. Thankfully we couldn't hear the hammering at the diamond club pools. We did not use the spa as the prices were obscene opting for a massage on the beach which was much more affordable. THE GYM as is most often the case at resorts, had some pretty dated equipment but was well staffed and a nice variety of equipment & group activities. No resort is perfect. There are some small things that I didn't like. Yes, you get gouged in the gift shop if you need any personal items. Not much different from any tourist district in the world really. The only MAJOR COMPLAINT that we had is the QUALITY OF THE ALCOHOL available. We tried all kinds of different drinks here and you can drink all day and not feel any kind of buzz whatsoever. In Diamond Club you are supposed to have access to brand name or 'upper shelf' alcohol. And while they do have some brand name bottles available, it is my opinion some of the alcohol in those bottles may have been switched out for a lower quality one. If you are a connoisseur of any hard liqour I doubt you would be very happy with the drink selection at this resort. Also limited beer selection and only Pepsi products available. No Coke products. Another slight negative to this resort was its location. It's a bit isolated. Stuck out in a mangrove swamp near the ocean with not much around it. It's not the Hotel's fault but I felt the variety types of excursions in the Cancun area are generally pretty weak. We did the Chechen itza tour which was cool but it's a very long bus ride and over 12 hour day. TO SUMMARIZE with every resort there are trade-offs, pros and cons. We felt the diamond club upgrade was worth it for the personalized service and quieter pool area with better service. Having the DC lounge was also great you can pop in there for a quick snack, water or bevvie. If you expect to be waited on hand and foot, this is not the place for you. You have to have reasonable expectations and treat people nicely. Pretty tough to call this a 5 star with such dated facilities but the service and the food definitely is very good. The close proximity to the airport is certainly a plus and we would consider returning only if they had better alcohol options.

Main bare Fransisco and Casimiro
My wife and I are really happy with everything. Especially the bartenders at the main bar, Fransisco and Casimiro, were really nice, friendly and very professional! They were a pleasure to deal with and made us feel welcome every time we came to the restaurant.
