Lovely hotel, excellent location.
Lovely hotel, excellent food, lovely staff. The refurb with make it even better and probably needed the upgrade…although you’re beachfront in Jamaica so I wasn’t worried about the decorinside my room! Very clean, got married here which was amazing and wedding staff were excellent. We’ve booked to go back 😊🇯🇲 Booked via Tui, flight was fine although they were a bit stingy on drinks for the rest of the wedding party and stopped serving half way through the flight (no-one was drunk).

Jamaica ni
We stayed 2 weeks in this hotel in January. We have been Riu class for about 15 years. Before arriving we had asked for a high floor and a quiet room. First room assigned on the first floor on a super busy road and in the last building. We asked for a change and they moved us 4 rooms. After a week after further protests, because we couldn't sleep, they still wanted to change our room but we no longer felt like packing. The impression is that Riu class who travel without tour operators are penalized. Vacation ruined by lack of cooperation from the reception.

Fantastic break
This was a change to our usual visit to Runaway Bay, and boy, was it worth the change. Beautiful and well maintained grounds, right on the beach, and the pools were fab too. Food and drink were excellent, but out of the 4 themed restaurants, a couple of them weren't great. The Italian was like a fast food joint, the A la carte was rushed but the steakhouse was good as was the oriental. Overall service was great and staff really friendly.

Disappointed
This was our first time in Jamaica and first time at a RIU. We were not impressed with the experience. First, we were disappointed to be assigned a room that was the furthest from the lobby, in the back corner. Literally. It was right by the public road and it seemed sketchy. After about 10 mins in the room, the lights went out. We called Reception and they sent Maintenance to look at it. It was not able to be repaired, so we were reassigned another room in the same building. This was a hassle to have to deal with after hours of traveling. Having to carry our luggage to the rooms (no carts available to assist) and waiting around for Maintenance, then Reception for a new room to be found was frustrating. The rooms and hallways reeked of marijuana. We then headed to the buffet and it was chaos. The staff couldn't care less. It was difficult to move around to get food and just crowded. After eating we had an enjoyable time on the patio at the theater bar. The next day, we were able to see the resort. The swimup bar pool was gross. There was not a bathroom nearby. - the closest one being in the lobby hallway. It was very slippery from the wet suits and in bad condition. The beach was pretty, but hard packed sand and not pleasant to swim because of all of the seaweed growing in the water. The beach bar was in a good location and had good choices for drinks. The beach food station was okay. Long lines but very good chicken. Breakfast at the buffet was just okay because it was very difficult to get the food you wanted without waiting in multiple lines for food to come out. The wait staff was not attentive at all. We really enjoyed our dinner at the steakhouse. Other than that nothing we ate was worth writing about. The bartenders were rude. This resort was a let down and subpar in comparison. We've been to several other resorts in Punta Cana and Mexico. I don't think we will go back to Jamaica anytime soon and doubtful that we will go to another Riu.
