Lovely but in need of updates
Staff are wonderful....everyone friendly and attentive. Beach beautiful....cleaned daily so no seaweed. Buffet excellent, beach restaurant just ok. Smoke house restaurant was a disappointment…not to our liking. Italian and Mediterranean very good…salmon at Mediterranean delicious as was steak at Italian (but cold when served) rooms need update. Very few outlets especially for cpap users, extension cord needed as no outlets near bedside tables. No drawers for clothing so left ours in suitcase. Walkways through jungle are a bit treacherous…don’t try with heels! Flat sandals for this resort. Wildlife lovely but coati visiting and sleeping ( and leaving a mess) 💩on our third floor balcony was a bit unwelcome. We are repeat guests as we do love this resort…and will return but planned upgrades for next year are definitely needed. (A coffee shop near beach would be awesome) updates to pool would be good also as it is very deep need a floaty to enjoy.

Brilliant hotel - great location, staff and facilities
We have had pleasure of visiting iberostar resorts in Europe for many years and twice previously in Mexico. We found our third visit to Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan another magical holiday with our family. Lots of amazing staff at this hotel, all with smiles on their faces. From the entertainment team, Stefanie and Brandy were both great. But special mention to Victor, who really went above and beyond to make our holiday more special - thank you. No hotel is perfect, however for us, we always value cleanliness, good food and space to unwind. The quetzal hit all this criteria. I would honestly ignore the bad reviews - we’re super fussy but loved so much about this hotel. For those looking for 5* we would say the expected updates of rooms would capture this rating. Whilst the limitation around booking restaurants can be frustrating, if you book early, it’s not difficult to get reservations where needed. The quality and selection in the Italian, Mediterranean and particularly the two large buffets was excellent. The atmosphere in the buffet restaurants was always pleasant and far better than many all inclusives. We had perfect nights’ sleep - with comfortable beds and no noise at all. We have very active children 9/11yrs and this age group isn’t really catered, they want to be doing all the “ teenage “ group activities but were not allowed. The hotel should identify how to cater this group, previous years, archery, table tennis, football etc was available every few hours but they weren’t allowed to participate in these this year - Diego was strict on this and it wasn’t until our penultimate day that the oldest one was allowed - and only because we pointed out that other, younger children were doing these activities. Luckily other entertainers (previously mentioned) were amazing and made up for this. A highlight for us was seeing so much beautiful wildlife roaming free - particularly the agoutis, coatis, raccoons and spider monkeys. Another brilliant holiday - would thoroughly recommend.

So much to improve
Let me start with the fact that Im still note done with this vacation. Im writing this review while still here 1. Hotel needs upgrades showers are really bad 2. Pool chairs are always taken if you arrive after breakfast around 9 there is no place to sit. 3. Coffee maker in the rooms are terrible and the is no creamers. How can someone who need milk drink black coffee’s 4. Out fridge barely works, when you open the cabinet where is hidden its like sauna in there 5. Not much to choose from the food u less you like see food. 6. They have the stupid smoke free policy which you can’t even smoke on balcony otherwise you will receive a note stating that you will be fined $250 7. When everyone leaves the room power goes off in the room so your devices wont charge while you eating breakfast etc. While I was before in iberostar and I loved it. After this stay I wont be returning back to one. For this price I might have tried just something else. Iberostar you have so much to improve.

Never Going Back
No service when in or around the pool. No service while on the beach. Had to walk to the bar for every drink and wait 5 plus minutes or more while there was a line of 10 people or more with only one bar tender. The liquor and beer selections were pitiful. All entertainment across the resort was awful. No snacks in the room. Wouldn't bring any drinks to the room. No room service after like 9pm. Limited hours of all food availabilities. Ran out of towels with rental service. Maintenance of the complex is sub par all around. Beds are as hard as a brick. Rooms were hot with limited temperature settings. Pool depth was 5.5ft. No shallow areas for adults to enjoy the water without pool water levels being in chin high water. There is one swim-up bar for adults with like 10 seats. Nothing ideal about its location or amenities. Half the tile on the steps, seats, and tables was missing. The water was 60 degrees. Completely disappointing. The kid pool was putiful. 2 slides and ankle deep water. Sidewalk to the pool/ocean is very uneven and dangerous. No outlets to charge any cell phones or devices near the beds. Half the walk from our room to the pool/beach smelled like feces. The power for the rooms including the A/C shuts off when you leave the room (they are on an occupancy sensor). This place is simply a joke and needs immediate attention in so many ways. Oh yea....our room was 2807. Every night and all night long after 10pm, there were garbage trucks, maintenance vehicles, etc going back and forth behind our room all night long. This included back-up alarms on vehicles beeeping, grinding sounds, dragging equipment, etc. Keeping my family and myself awake. I'll never go back.

Amazing!
Our first visit to this resort and it did not disappoint! I would honestly have to think really hard to find any negative and for me it would be the chair reservations in the morning, literally we got up to watch the sunrise and people were already reserving chairs. Anyways, we managed and had a wonderful week. The employees at this resort are amazing, all super friendly and helpful especially Alfredo at the front desk and Bernadino in the Quetzal buffet. Rooms are basic but super clean, and very comfortable beds. Bring a power bar, it saved us as my husband uses a cpap machine and there were no plugs close to the bed. We did not really use the pool as we were lucky to have a great beach week with minimal seaweed, it was a bit more present the last few days but not enough to not be in the ocean. If you prefer a bit more quiet you’ll appreciate the ocean. It’s not really possible to find quiet at the pool. Drinks were ok at the pool but much better in the lobby bar in the evenings, to be expected. Food was pretty good with a lot of variety each day. We are not difficult with that as we don't go south with crazy expectations. overall it was a great week, we would definitely return, especially for the jungle vibe. Can't wait to see this resort after renos.
