Great restaurant at Outrigger Resort Kauai, HI

We had one of the greatest meals at the Outrigger Naupaka Terrace Restaurant. Recommended by our server, Kala, my husband had steak and I fish. Both were superb. Top-notch chef, server and ambience. We are having all our remaining meals of our stay right here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    Best time of my life!

I could not have had a better experience! Every staff member went above and beyond anything I have experienced at any other place! The location and resort are beautiful! The restaurant was amazing, and the 5 pools and 2 hot tubs - spectacular! The morning sunrises are unlike anything I’ve ever seen! I highly recommend this resort!

    First time in Kauai

The staff are very nice and super friendly and this is what’s has made this trip so enjoyable. The facilities are a bit worn out and run down, but I did see that they are working on upgrading and remodeling the facility. It’s definitely a “work in progress “ but I have a soft spot for this resort. The rooms are kept clean and the bed was very comfortable. Good value for money, location is great for reaching all parts of the island .

    Pretty much what I expected

We just returned from an eight-day trip to Kauai and stayed at the Outrigger. I picked this resort because it was a bit cheaper than some of the other resorts, and it was pretty much all we needed for a place to sleep, shower, and eat breakfast. We weren't planning on spending a ton of time there every day. I was aware that this place got mixed reviews, and they're largely correct. The grounds of the hotel are nice, but some of the buildings and rooms are dated and worn. I "upgraded" to a pool/ocean view room, and that's what we got. It was in building 4, which is close to the ocean (if you're standing outside the lobby facing the pool, building 4 is the farthest one down on the right). The whole building is pretty dated and showing some major wear and tear. I tried asking for an updated room when we checked in (because I knew some rooms had been updated), but I was told there was nothing available. Whatever. We spent 15 hours traveling here, and I was not in the mood to argue. We had a balcony where we hung out early in the morning and in the evening before bed. Our room was two doubles, which I didn't think would be that big of a deal, but the beds are indeed small. My husband and I would wake up sore from having to sleep in one position. If having enough room in the bed to move around is a priority for you, don't reserve a room with "two doubles." We should have reserved a king room with a rollaway for our daughter. Also, a "garden view" room means "parking lot." I attached a picture of one side of the building where all the rooms face a parking lot with some construction equipment. So...just so you're aware of what you're getting. Speaking of the parking lot, it's not that far from the hotel. I don't know why people keep saying this. We pretty much only ate breakfast there, and it was fine. It was what I expected--not great, but not terrible either. My bar for hotel/resort food is pretty low. You can go to the buffet or order from the menu. There's also a coffee place in the gift shop if you want something other than the gross coffee you can make from the Keurig machine in your room. There is also a pool bar where you can order drinks and (maybe?) food, but it closes at like 6:00 or 7:00, which I thought was odd. The good points about this place is that it is indeed in a central location on the island--about 45-50 minutes to Hanalei, and about an hour to Waimea Canyon State Park. Poipu is maybe 20-25 minutes, depending on where exactly you're going. I wouldn't swim on the beach, but you can definitely take a lovely walk along the shore--go to the left when you're facing the ocean. It is also near the airport, so you will see and hear planes flying overhead, but I wouldn't say it's to the point that it's a nuisance. Our room was also cleaned every day by the time we got back from whatever we were doing, so that was nice that we didn't have to hunt down housekeeping and ask what was going on like in some other places where we've stayed. All in all, if you're looking to come to Kauai and you're okay with making some compromises about the rooms in exchange for a decent location and saving a bit of money by not staying at the pricier resorts, then this place is fine. However, if all you want to do is hang out all day at the resort and sleep in a fabulous, updated room, I'd probably cough up the money and stay somewhere else.

    Outrigger first time visit!

The front desk was amazing. I believe Jasmine was one of the outstanding ladies, but several helped us throughout our stay. The ladies were able to get us checked in early, which we SO appreciated. That was at 1 pm on 3/25. We had slept on benches at the Maui Airport as they had closed between flights, and we were exaughsted. We were able to get a nap before the Luau I had booked at 4:30. Those ladies were our heroes! We had food at all three restaurants during our stay. The manager was so professional checking on us and watching the restaurant helping were needed! We enjoyed the live music, and our server was wonderful at Shutters. Amanda at Driftwood was very friendly and made amazing drinks. Kala at Naupaka Terrace was amazing! He knew the menu inside and out, was fast and friendly, and shared a lot of information about the fish dishes. He is an asset to the resort for sure. We felt very confident in our orders with his suggestions and knowledge. Thank you for a wonderful vacation ❤️ We so want to come back and bring our kids and siblings! Mahalo
