Weird post-apocalyptic vibe
I visited the ‘Grand’ Lucayan resort yesterday on a day trip from a cruise ship. Whilst the beach is very pleasant and the bar functional, we could not get over the rest of the resort. The main hotel has clearly been closed for years and has fallen into a dilapidated state. Some windows are boarded up, gutters hanging off etc. All the grounds are returning to nature and are not looked after. The pool is dirty and obviously not properly maintained - we gave it a wide berth. When we peered in the window of the former main hotel, we were promptly shooed away by a security guard. They clearly don’t want people figuring out that the resort is pretty much dead, although it is blatantly obvious from the minute you arrive. Onsite shops are either boarded up or just permanently closed, there are no beach activities, other than a guy selling drinks, and the whole place is like a scene from The Walking Dead. And I mean literally. Our day was pleasant enough, but we were only there for a few hours on the beach which is what we achieved. On the coach home, our local guide told us that the hotel was badly damaged in 2019 by the hurricane and tidal surge and became uninhabitable and uninsurable thereafter. It was then bought by the government but numerous attempts to sell it on or develop it since have fallen through. We were absolutely staggered to find out that in fact one of the buildings on site is still taking paying guests for holidays. If I arrived here for a holiday, I would immediately turn around and go back to the airport.

Exceptional!!! Best place to stay!
Exceptional place to stay, we had the best week. Otterine (Houskeeping) knew us by name and was amazing, Shanika (Guest Services) answered all our questions and was a delight, Amos (life guard) provided lots of history and a joy to visit with. Debbie (Portabella’s) took great care of us making sure to make us feel at home. This is the place to stay in Freeport. Amazing!

Relaxing enjoyable golf, beach vacation
Has a great relaxing vacation at the Lighthouse Pointe in Grand Lucaya Beach. The staff were amazing and the food was great. Chef and staff were great at accomodation dietary concerns. The beach was fabulous for beach walking. Miles of soft white sand to walk on. The ocean waters were beautiful turquois blue. Room was clean and spacious. Day time entertainment around the pool provided by Barry was fun and upbeat. Only downfall was the pool could use some work and daily cleaning. Golf at the nearby Reef golf course provided fun and good challenges. All round we enjoyed our week and look forward to going back.

No complaints!
I don’t know why this place gets knocked so hard. It was actually ok. At least for the price. Comparable in price to going to the Cuba but with better food. The beach was beautiful, no complaints there. The pool was good, no complaints there. The room was fine. A little dated but spacious and clean. The breakfast was good, lunch a little lacking and dinner was fine. The free drinks were adequate and no complaints there. Staff were absolutely superb. The resort was extremely quiet when we were there, maybe 20 guests total. I kind of likened it to going to watch a live band. There was few in the audience but the band (the staff) treated it like it was a full house. They killed it! I played golf 3 times. The course can be long and challenging when the wind is up. Pretty much a typical resort course that could be excellent if they sink some money into it. The island went through tough times with hurricane Dorian in 2019 and then Covid in 2020 so they’re still trying to rebuild. If you’re looking for a fairly inexpensive all inclusive and you’re looking for peace and quiet and only a short hop over from the U.S. give it a shot!

The worst vacation I had in my Life
The First 3 days we were in the Resort, it was raining all day and we were expecting at least something from the resort. Unfortunately, there was no entertainment and the food everyday for Lunch for 7 days are the same. It was a BUFFET , but always, Hotdogs, Hamburger, Nachos, chicken Wings and salad. Yes, you can order Pizza , but what we were expecting was at least to have different food , not the same everyday.
