    Recomendado

    We will return

Cleanest resort we've been to in Cuba-best food and most caring staff! Yeni, looking after the Premium Class guests was so helpful. Ilianny, on the beach was so attentive. Oralys and Dailenys at the lobby bar treated us like family. Love it!

The sorry tale that is Cuba shows in their hotels

I want to say off the top, that the situation in Cuba is unforgivable. They have next to no grocery stores - except for the wealthy. Cubans are given a ration book each month that enables them to buy small amounts of the basics - rice, beans, sugar, and eggs - that last about 15 days. Or they must go to the black market to barter. Their sugar industry collapsed in the nineties. Sadly, now, their number one industry is tourism, where the hotel chains import the food they serve. In this setting, I don't judge Memories Jibacoa - a resort owned by Blue Diamond Resorts - a division of Sunwing. Based on the above, my reviews of Memories Jibacoba might seem contradictory I realize - but the reality of Cubans's existence impacts the hotel resorts without question. First of all, the people are the most genuinely friendly and kind of any Caribbean resort we've visted. They try their absolute best to keep the resort clean inside and well groomed outdoors. They really want to make your stay as good as you hoped it would be.This was so wonderful to experience. The food we had was unlike anything we know. Red meat is covered in fat. and gristle. Thin, small chicken filets and fish filets - smaller than the palm of your hand. Made me wonder where they came from. Small chickens and fish? I don't know. There is no fruit but what seems to be unripe pineapple that sat day after day, no one eating. One day canned peaches and another canned fruit cocktail. were served. My heart went out to them for trying to make up for the lack. The fruit juices are powdered, or something else, undrinkable. No potatoes that I saw. Bread or buns were not always there at breakfast. I had heard that there was a lack of bread in Cuba. A common item for us but this is how they must live. The worst part of the food for us was that both my husband and I both became violently ill from the food. The doctor of the hotel was absolutely wonderful and compassionate, thank goodness. She got us through it. But, unfortunately, we don't need to get through that kind of a challenge on a holiday or ever. My husband and I normally go to Roatan for our winter holiday. Fantastic snorkelling on the second largest coral reef, next to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It's getting crowded now, as this reputation grows. So we thought we'd try Cuba after reading that Jibacoa has snorkeling right off the shore because of the coral. However, we didn't realize the issue with jelly fish and man of war. They come right to the shore. In the week we were there, these ocean dwellers with a painful sting, were always seen in the shorline waters. We saw only one snorkeller in the week we were in Jibacoa. We never set foot in the ocean. And, to top it off, the pool is only 4 ft deep. Not a lot of great swimming to be had. So, needless to say, on the day we headed home, I was exhausted from illness and ready for home. All that being said, can world leaders not look to Cuba and see the dire economic circustance they are in? They sent 4,000 doctors to 40 countries during the Covid pandemic. They are a good decent people and need the help of others to give them a hand up out of where they now find themselves. Why isn't that being done? And it could start with Sunwing doing a review of the food they seem satisfied to send to their hotel. So Sunwing, take your family there for a week and see if you don't believe, you could do better. Memories Jibacoba is at your mercy and can only use what they are given.

    Visiting this nice resort again!

Super nice resort! A lot has already been written about the resort and the rooms, so I would just like to write about individual points. Food: The buffet is very good. The finished dishes are of very good quality and it’s always plentiful. There are many stations serving pasta, pizza, fish and meat are freshly prepared. There were waitresses everywhere to serve you desserts or salads, etc. In our opinion, the three a la carte restaurants were extremely good, especially by Cuban standards. We liked the Cuban and Italian ones the best. The separate breakfast and lunch area for Diamond Club guests was also very nice, as it was always pleasantly quiet there. But we met many people on site who were very happy and friendly. You can also meet a lot of locals on the main street who would be happy about it. All in all a nice hotel with very nice people!
