Lovely Setting, but Disappointing Service and a Pushy Sales Pitch
We just returned from a 7-night stay at the Melia Caribe Beach Resort in Punta Cana, and while there were a few positives, the overall experience left much to be desired — particularly due to the resort's surprising focus on upselling rather than hospitality. The Good: The resort itself is set in a beautiful location. The free WiFi was reliable throughout the property — a nice perk — and the bed was very comfortable. The kids’ water park was a real highlight and a great way to keep little ones entertained. When staff were motivated (usually by tips), they could be quite helpful. The Frustrating: On our second day, we were approached by a concierge named Pierre, who invited us to meet him after breakfast for a "tour of the facilities" to help us get the most out of our stay. Sounded great — but what followed felt more like a trap. The next morning, Pierre took us by golf cart — oddly — to the neighboring Paradisus resort, where we were ushered into a sleek lounge, greeted with champagne and soft drinks for the kids, and handed off to another staff member. What we thought was a friendly orientation quickly turned into a high-pressure sales pitch for the Melia Vacation Club membership. It became clear we were only there so Pierre could "deliver" us to the sales team. Despite politely declining and asking to take the information home, the saleswoman persisted — and eventually returned with a manager when we asked to leave. The price? $4,000 a year, casually written on a blank piece of paper. When we insisted again on leaving, we were handed an outdated brochure from the previous year — nothing we had just discussed was in writing. It felt manipulative and completely out of place for what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Definitely not how we expected to spend part of our second day. Other Issues: Service was inconsistent. Without an obvious tip, many staff seemed uninterested in helping. Food at the buffet was below average, and service was extremely slow. Drinks varied wildly from bar to bar, even ordering the same cocktail on different days. Kids' games room was neglected and clearly not maintained — broken machines, no staff around. Rooms were outdated and in disrepair: broken toilet seats, towel holders, shelving, door latches, even a faulty safe. Everything seemed like it had been broken for some time with no sign of upkeep. Evening entertainment was underwhelming for a resort of this size and reputation. Final Thoughts: The Melia Caribe Beach has potential, especially for families — but it's bogged down by lackluster service, poor maintenance, and unexpected sales tactics that left a bad taste. If you're planning a trip here, just be aware of what you're getting into. This is not a stress-free, five-star experience — it’s a beautiful setting let down by management priorities and inconsistent service.

Great Family Resort
Here with fam and a great resort. Pools are great, entertainment great. I think bad reviews are just about communication issues but staff does try to help when they can. Buffet is better than restaurants in our opinion. Only thing I wish they had was a sign for tips if it's necessary or ok not to. Watch out for the parrot guy on beach, once you touch parrot be ready to pay some money. Enjoy!

AMAZING RESORT
The staff were all super friendly and treated us like royalty. Edinson, the bartender at Olives, made our nightly experience AMAZING! The food was delicious and had several different varieties. We highly recommend this resort to others and we will be back!
