    Watch for fake good reviews.

Here’s my honest review of the place. First of all I have to share that one of the entertainment staff approached my teenage daughter, grabbed her phone and asked her to login to google. My daughter is shy so didn’t say no and let her. This worker proceeded to post a glowing google review of the place under my daughters name. We deleted it a soon as we realized. So just keep in mind when looking at reviews… We arrived late on a Monday night. Check in was slow but we had a bus load arrive all together so it was to be expected. We were a group of 9 with three separate rooms. 2 rooms were next to each other in building 2, one room in building 5. Our room (2 adults, 2 kids) was in building 5. The room was atrocious. Very dirty. Broken tv, broken safe, broken toilet, literally dried feces on the floor. Missing balcony chairs, broken tiles loose on the floor. Bathtub so so dirty. We tried to change rooms and were told there were no rooms available and to come back at 3 pm the next day. They said they would send someone to fix the toilet and they did not. My husband found a housekeeper and maintenance guy in the hall, asked them to fix the toilet. They poured some blue stuff in, flushed it and flooded our bathroom. Didn’t fix it. The next morning I again asked to change rooms and was quite upset, reiterated the broken toilet, again they said not til 3pm. I spoke to our airline rep who directed me to a specific front desk staff member, Martirez, who immediately switched us to a room by our other family members in building two. He also seemed miffed that there was no record of our request to change or of the broken toilet and safe. He was very helpful and we were grateful to be moved. New room in building 2 was so much better! Cleaner, had a ceiling fan (building 5 room did not), bigger room and double the size bathroom. Working toilet. Safe didn’t work but as we were closer to our family we used theirs. 6/10 for this room. We had a standard run of the house room. Housekeeping skipped us some days but we were able to get what we needed by asking them when we saw them in the halls (more toilet paper, etc.). We did put the sign on the bed once asking for the sheets to be changed as my son got chocolate on the bed. They didn’t get changed. Wasn’t a big deal but thought it worth mentioning. They only had towels on the carts, I don’t think they change anyone’s sheets. We were first in line Tuesday at 7am to book our dinners. There was nothing available til Thursday which was fine, we booked for Thurs-sun. Able to book our three rooms together for the dinners. Japanese restaurant was great. We loved it. Mexican was not great food and even worse service. It was a 9pm seating so maybe that was why. Dominican was good and French was good. Very hard to get a table at the buffet. Had to walk around the entire restaurant til you saw someone get up and leave. The food was okay. I thought I saw other posts mentioning bacon but there was definitely no bacon the whole week we were there. Mostly cut up hot dogs for breakfast meats. Pizza place was very good. Expect a long wait but it’s worth it. Cleanliness of the resort was quite poor. Feces on a bathroom wall that did not get cleaned. Often no toilet paper. The ground around the pools wasn’t very clean. Beach was beautiful. Very clean sand and water. Kids area was great. My kids especially loved the rock climbing wall. The Michael Jackson show was great and so was the circus show. At the foam party my mom had my boys in the pool with her. We didn’t realize it wasn’t kid friendly. An entertainment staff member litterally pushed my mom, who was holding my son in her arms. Another one splashed water into their faces to get them to get out. We did make the best of our trip and had a good time despite all the cons. Would not go back though.

    Very disappointing

CHRISTMAS (DECEMBER 23 TO 30) AT OCCIDENTAL CARIBE. Our family of 11 persons arrived at Occidental Caribe, on December 23, without any issues. When we made our reservation, we asked our travel agent to request that our 4 rooms should be close together, knowing full well there would be no guarantees. The check-in process was a long and slow process with 2 rooms out of 4 were not yet available but would be in 15 to 20 minutes. After completing the check-in process which took over 1 hour; the 2 rooms were not yet available. The luggage porter by this time was frustrated. He took our reservations documents and went behind the check-in counter and came back with rooms which were yet to be assigned. However, our rooms were located in Blocks #5, 6, and 7. Below are some of the issues which we experienced during our stay. Room 6402. The safe was not operational and we reported this to the front desk. It took 3 days to have someone come to perform the reset which took a few minutes. The bathroom had a sewer smell during our stay. The toilet would take 2 or 3 consecutive flushes before anything was flushed. There was no hot water from December 23 until the 27th. I had reported this to the front desk by phone and nothing was done until I demanded that something to be done, in person at the front desk, on December 27. The sliding patio door required a strong person to open or close. The lock on the door required some fiddling to open or close. One afternoon after returning from the beach, we had no towels. However, after wandering the halls, I found 2 ladies who were kind enough to provide me with bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths and a tub (floor) mat. Room 6418: 23 Dec- 24 Dec - room had no towels upon arrival - room and surrounding hallway smelled strongly of sewage - toilet would not flush at all. TV was not operational. all deficiencies were reported to the reception staff within the first hour of arrival. We were informed that nothing could be done that day (23 Dec) but to return the following morning at 0900 (24 Dec) to see if any rooms would be available that day to switch. - Returned the morning of 24 Dec at 0900, reception staff made a list of the issues and asked us to return again at 1500 to be assigned another room. - Returned at 1500, another room was not yet ready, the room (6410) was assigned at 1600 and we began the move of 4 guests. Room 5202: 23 Dec - 30 Dec bathtub/shower drain was clogged, over the course of a shower 5-6” of water would accumulate in the tub and it would take approximately 6 hours for the water to drain.(not sanitary). this issue was reported to hotel staff, the deficiency was never rectified. Room: 7211 AC did not work. Toilet did not flush Ants in the bed crawly on the guests during the night. Safe did not work (asked 3 times) Hair dryer only blew cold air Had to shower with a towel on the shower floor. Not clean whatsoever. Presence of mold. We moved to Room 6315. Room 6315: AC kept dripping even after it was (fixed) We had to daily replace a towel underneath the AC unit to absorb the water. Staff Issues: On December 23, we had dinner at the buffet and the 11 of us were accommodated in a separate room at the rear of the dinning room at 2 round tables, which were placed together. We made a reservation, for 11 persons, for dinner at the buffet on December 24 at 18:30. Once again we were escorted to same room as the previous evening however the staff insisted that we sit a separate tables. This was unacceptable to us therefore we moved 3 settings and chairs from another table in order that we might dine together. We sat 11 people at a table which would normally accommodate 8, because the staff would not accommodate us. We made reservation at the a la carte restaurants with Victor (at the reservation desk) and this went very well. Our dinners at the a la carte restaurants were without issues except menus were unavailable, we were asked to copy the QR code to get a menu, until the staff was pressed and then menus appeared. The food at the buffet and snack bar was mediocre at best and the a la carte restaurants was less then stellar. The pizza restaurant above the snack bar provided good pizza but at a very slow pace. Victor at the reservation desk was efficient and professional. The bar staff was quick to serve and courteous. The staff at the buffet did not speak any English or French and were not very attentive of our needs. (coffee or juice.) Most of the staff at the resort could not speak English or French which was quite the surprise. This was a surprise since we stayed at other resorts in the DR and this was not the case. The grounds of the resort were well groomed and the beach was lovely. At the check-out counter, we were 3rd in line. The line did not move account that the lady at the check-out counter was checking-in some friends. After 20 minutes, I approach another lady and the counter who was performing other tasks and she had me check-out in a couple of minutes.

Terrible spot for family vacation. I DO NOT recommend this hotel.

I do not recommend it. You cannot rest here. It is a very old hotel with stripped-down rooms and severe infrastructure damage. Even after paying extra for a better room, we were assigned one that had leaks, and the bathroom flooded. The food tastes greasy because everything is overly fried. They do not allow you to purchase affordable tours on the beach due to a monopoly held by a woman inside the hotel who is quite rude. The beach was nice, but I would rather go to RIU Hotel.

These guidelines are currently vague because actual enforcement by the local government does vary greatly from one year to the next.  Each year the actual policies are not published by the local authorities until just prior to Easter.  These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.
