***Important Information for our guests***
The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter. The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday. The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized watersports may be banned
*Non-motorized water sports may be limited, or banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to nonnative persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced
These guidelines are currently vague because actual enforcement by the local government does vary greatly from one year to the next. Each year the actual policies are not published by the local authorities until just prior to Easter. These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

Overall good experience!
Nancy Butler at reception did her best to help out with issues regarding our room. We thank her very much for all her great work. She did her best to change our room and give us a better experience, but things were not as efficient as we wanted. Finally we decided to stay at the same room. She helped to reserve a table at Mexican restaurant as well. Transportation was arranged by her also. GREAT Thank you Nancy!

Don’t believe the negative reviews
My wife & I stayed at Occidental Caribe from Dec 2nd - 17th (15 nights). As others mention, the hotel grounds, pools & beach are just awesome! Plenty of lounge chairs available. The hotel itself is somewhat dated, but we had no issues with our room. It was cleaned nicely each day. We enjoyed the varied food at the buffets & specialty restaurants - btw, I am a very picky eater and never had a problem finding something I liked. We received great service from everyone we encountered during our stay, but would like to acknowledge the following staff who took excellent care of us: Franklin (omelette’s) in the breakfast buffet. Nilson, Yohanny, Mellissa, Mallelin & Yarisneidy in the pizzeria. And especially - Yossi, Ana, Christine, Sandy & Omar in the main lobby bar…. Thank You ALL! We will definitely return!! You get what you pay for. At least the weather did not disappoint.
Returned to this resort after a 5 year gap. The pools, the amazing beach and the amenities were as expected but.....the management has eroded drastically. Routine maintenance other than multiple coats of paint and armies of gardeners has been ignored. Very few staff are conversant in English. Everyone smiled and nodded but nothing really got corrected until multiple complaints were lodged. Our bathroom was a liability - water dripping steadily from the ceiling making the floor sodden and slippery. Housekeeping presumably knew about this since they positioned water glasses to catch the drops until the glasses themselves overflowed and water poured everywhere. Why we were checked into a room that was dangerous is a mystery? This resort and several others are now catering to predominantly Hispanic guests - music booms and competes from pool area to pool area. Our upgraded room did feature an ocean view but the downside was the hallway overlooked the main buffet restaurant. Shouting, cutlery and china clacking, rolling dollies, breaking glassware, and loud chatter began before 6 a.m. and continued with little quiet time until after 10 p.m. The influx of weekend guests began Thursday and continued until Monday - long lineups to even enter the buffet, access a drink at the bars, etc. and conversations over long distances at high volume were the norm. On the whole, we did receive value for our vacation dollar but also a valuable lesson - DO NOT trust the star rating unless you have it verified by a reputable travel agent or trusted fellow traveler AND an upgrade to a resort with North American management may be well worth the extra $$.

Nice Resort
Overall experience was good! There are some areas of improvement in the food and cleaning in our opinion, but it was not an issue during our stay. Pool and beach are amazing and room view was very good too. Most of the staff are friendly and very supportive. Excellent cost-performance relation in our view.

Lovely hotel but very noisy!
The hotel is good value for money, good location, nice pools, right on the beach, lovely staff, but, there is very loud music round the pool every day from 9am till 7pm. A lot of the rooms are situated above the buffet restaurant. From 4am every morning the noise from the kitchen woke us up each day. If you want to relax for the week then this hotel is not for you. In regards to the food, it was ok. The breakfast was good and had a range of breakfast choices, the lunch and dinner in the buffet didn’t feel like it catered to everyone - especially if you are are GF, but I would highly recommended paying $50 to have lobster dinner on the beach - this experience and the service I couldn’t fault! Our room was a little dated, the bathroom had a leak and the safe did not work. The only faults I can find with this hotel is the noise and the food choices - but if you are looking for a lively week away in the DR then this hotel is for you.
