Alright experience, but would not call this a 5-star resort
We just finished our stay at Ocean Maya Royale in November 2024. It was an alright experience overall. We chose this resort primarily because of other reviews that said the resort was vegetarian friendly (we are vegetarian) and because this was listed as a 5-star resort. I wouldn't say there was anything here that ruined our trip, but I also would not stay here again. On the food, it was initially very hard to find any options other than fruit, bread, salad, etc. that we could eat. When we tried to ask if any of the meals contained meat, we were given conflicting answers, which was not reassuring. Over time, though, the chefs helped us find things that we can eat by walking around the buffet and pointing us specifically to options that would work for us. So, it didn't start off great but did improve. If you do eat meat, the food at the buffet and restaurants seemed to have a great selection though. Also one thing to keep in mind (especially if you have food allergies) - there are not enough serving spoons in many spots at the buffet. Meaning that the same serving spoon ends up being shared across several dishes, so you have no idea what might be on that serving spoon. We generally tried to get to the buffet at opening time to avoid this being a problem for us, but this is a real problem for someone that has food allergies that is planning on eating at the buffet. The pool/beach was decent. I wouldn't say that the water was swimmable due to what looked like sargassum near the shoreline, but the sand did look clean enough to walk around in. We also always found chairs on the beach. Towels, however, were a different issue. On multiple occasions, the hotel ran out of beach towels and we had to wait over an hour. With a resort this size, I'd expect them to have plenty of beach towels on hand, but that was absolutely not the case. The biggest issue we had during our stay were the power outages. We stayed there for five days, and the power went out every single day. The first night we were there, the power went out in the evening during dinner and didn't come back on until sometime in the middle of the night. We figured that was a one-time thing and didn't think much of it. But then the power went out the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. One time, the water in our room just stopped working when the power was out. Several other times, we had to shower in cold water because the power was out. We called the front desk a few times, and all they gave us were some free Ocean "cash" (monopoly money) that we ended up not using. Another time, they said they would come see why we didn't have any hot water, but no one ever came. It was really unfortunate - I'd say this certainly became a problem for us, since this was clearly not a one-time thing that we could ignore. Other things - as soon as we checked in, they sat us down at a separate table to try to get us to visit one of their sister properties. As a paid guest, this was annoying. If you stay here, just politely decline before you fall into that trap. We also didn't get a king bed even though we requested one. The lock on our screen door was highly questionable - even with a small tug, the door would open right up. They were doing their best to keep up the condition of the hotel, but they were fighting an uphill battle, as the age of the resort is clearly showing. We still made the most of our trip and enjoyed it overall, but there is no way I would call this a 5-star resort. I'd say this is closer to a 3.5 star resort (or 4-star if someone was being really really generous). Do I regret staying here? Not at all. Would I stay here again? Nope.

Excellent entertainment staff and hotel
We had the best holiday, with the most excellent entertainment staff you could ask for. Grecia and Kenndell, put a smile on our faces everyday and will be going back to this hotel for sure. Highly recommended, as they go above and beyond for you and nothing is too much trouble. They make sure you have the best time and work so hard to do. Grecia and Kenndell thank you so much for the best memories made and all because of you.

A relaxing vacation
A very nice, quiet, smaller adults-only resort with a welcoming atmosphere. All of the staff were amazing & so friendly, especially our butler Allein, and the person in charge of the Privilege towel stand & area (I didn’t catch his name unfortunately). We were happy with our Privilege experience & were well taken care of. I do feel like this area of Mexico tends to get more seaweed than the Cancun area…but that is out of the resort’s control of course.

10th visit to OMR
My wife and I just returned from our 10th visit to OMR. We consider this our home away from home. We come to stay two or three times a year. What keeps us coming back is the staff. They are All amazing!! A lot of them we consider friends and each time we visit we seem to make more friends. We also enjoy the size and layout of OMR and the food is pretty good (and I’m picky). The rooms and property are clean and well kept. We can’t wait for our return visit in February.

Girls trip
Nice quaint adult only resort . We were in the regular section, not privledge. The good .. No reservations required for a la cartes . First come, first served. Food was good . We had drink service around the pool. Staff was very friendly . Rooms were nice . I would prefer a nicer beach . Not the resorts fault but not sure if I would go back as I like to swim in the ocean amd you couldn't. The water was very dirty.
