Peace & Plenty... Still THE place to stay at

We have just returned to Great Exuma for one reason: to enjoy one last stay at Peace & Plenty. This hotel we visited in the '80s holds some of our most cherished family souvenirs, as mentioned by my relative in one previous review. It was pure pleasure to find it as it was then, with the surprise of freshly renovated rooms. This small hotel still bears its magical ambiance: the chance to meet and chat with other guests at the pool, the bar, the table and the beach. Customers mix in a friendly way to a degree not seen at other hotels. It is a place to make interesting encounters with people who have colorful lives. Priceless! This great ambience is amplified by Ashva, an enthusiastic gentleman who attends to customers with an exceptional dedication. His friendliness has a happiness effect on the whole hotel’s atmosphere. Wow! Very kind and hard-working waitresses met at dinner are the same ones serving us at breakfast. Wow again! At customer service, a lady with the warmest smile and impressive hair curls was dedicated to ensuring we had a nice experience. We became attached to them all! Our hotel experience was great. My only suggestions for improvements would be: a) To review the reservation system to prevent stressful situations. At our arrival, somehow, the hotel did not have our reservation that had been confirmed by email months before. It took days to finalise rooms and rate agreements with the hotel to match the reservation parameters. It was hard on my sister, who had to manage this. b) To improve front desk communications with taxis, and obtain a more reliable service from local taxis for pick-up times. c) To lower music sound level in public places, as this new trend makes it hard to rest. Finally, I wish to say THANK YOU to the whole team working at Peace & Plenty for our memorable stay!

    Adult family return vacation

As a family, we returned to Peace & Plenty hotel for one last time after 40 years. Nature is still amazing on Exuma's with beautiful beaches and pristine waters even with the increased development on the island. Upon arrival we had a considerable issue relative to their old reservation system. The matter was efficiently solved with much appreciated solution and customer service from Nakeisha Harris, the general manager. Throughout our week, we had wonderful services with Kaylecia at the reception with a welcoming smile and answering our many questions/requests and with Preshea who was always willing to support us. Ashvy was always there on site with a helping hand wishing for the customer to be happy. We loved your customer focus Ashvy. We must not forget the Beach club team lead by Latroy who ensured that we had the chairs and umbrella set in the quiet area meeting our needs to enjoy such a wonderful setting. Thanks all for your services during our family vacation.

    Disappointing

We were originally scheduled to stay in the cottages on Stocking Island but got moved to the mainland by the resort due to "power issues". Our initial room was on the ground floor, had no ocean view (as we requested), no balcony, and was right next to the pool bar. We asked to be moved to another room that ended up being tiny for accommodating two adults and two kids. Our one dinner at the restaurant was a disaster. We were overcharged for the meals and the service was not great. The location is great, but that's about the only good thing I can say.

Wish I could give a better review

We stayed in the cottages in March 2025 (the Royal Poinciana) for a little over a week. I'll start by saying that we truly loved the cottage as it's the closest to the beachfront and has two bedrooms/1.5 bathrooms. The cottage certainly needs updates but we found it to be charming and it had all of the necessities, including an awesome patio we enjoyed in the mornings and at sunset. The beach/beach club is incredible as well. We spent most of the vacation relaxing under the sun and swimming in the crystal clear waters. Thankfully the beach was our top priority for the trip so we were able to make the best out of our trip based on that. I will also say that the Copia restaurant serves amazing food and we really enjoyed the staff both at the beach club and Copia (really welcoming and kind). Keetel was a favorite as she made our breakfasts at the restaurant a really positive experience each time. As for the main issues with our stay. The overall theme is that the front desk staff are not helpful or welcoming at all. In fact, almost every time I asked a question they didn't provide correct information or simply didn't help. I think the main problem with our stay is that it felt as if the hotel was not prepared to welcome guests at the cottages. For starters, when we arrived, we were told on the spot that due to power issues at the cottages over the prior several days, our stay was moved to the mainland for the whole trip. Mind you, I had been in contact with the GM and other staff from the hotel for months prior to my arrival, including the night before. It was never mentioned that there were any issues or that our stay might be changed. I insisted that we stay at the cottages as this would have changed our entire experience and thankfully they let us go as originally planned. Note, we had one power outage our entire stay and it lasted about 15 min. The hotel also very easily sent other guests to the cottages throughout the week. I still have no idea why they initially tried to keep us on the mainland but it was the most unpleasant way to start the vacation. The next issue came up when on our second day, we left for dinner around 6pm to the mainland and had mentioned to the boat captain that we'd need pickup around 930pm, which he said was fine. We returned at 9pm asking to schedule a boat and were told that we would actually have to stay on mainland for the night due to high winds. We were NEVER informed of this being a possibility. The hotel didn't even have toothbrushes or phone chargers or anything to make the unexpected stay more comfortable for us. Thankfully they had a room available for us to sleep in but I could not believe they didn't have anything at the front desk for situations like this (by the way, they mentioned this happens all the time, just failed to inform guests staying at the cottages about this, a crucial point). We slept in our clothes from dinner, didn't brush our teeth and our phones died. Of course we understood the call was made for safety reasons, but to never have even let us know that this was a possibility or attempt to contact us as soon as the staff realized the conditions were becoming unsafe is insane (I was already texting back and forth with the front desk staff on Whatsapp so they definitely had a way of contacting me quickly and I know for a fact they knew we were on mainland for dinner). Thankfully after speaking with the GM the following morning, she gave me her contact info directly and I was able to coordinate everything through her going forward but I cannot imagine how dysfunctional it must have been for other guests at the cottages. However, even that bliss lasted for two days. After that, we had a water taxi pickup for an earlier morning due to a scheduled tour and they showed up 40 min late. I had called the front desk asking if the person was on their way and they said yes he'll be there in 10-12 minutes. 10 minutes later the GM texted me saying the boat captain was on his way to the hotel to pick up the keys and will come get us shortly. The miscommunication amongst the front desk staff, who are the first people you see when you walk in the hotel and are especially important people in coordinating your stay if you're in the cottages, is unacceptable. We constantly got contradicting information from everyone and quite frankly got so fed up with them that we opted to make our own breakfasts/dinners for a number of days so we didn't have to deal with them. Lastly, and I already sort of touched on it, but the hotel clearly doesn't have a good system for the water taxi service for the cottages. I had asked many many times before our arrival, and after I arrived, about how easy it is to get to and from the cottages. I was told each time that we could go whenever, until about 10pm. Let me tell you, the front desk staff made us feel like the biggest inconvenience when we were requesting rides. They later told us that the water taxi actually runs every hour from the mainland and every 30 min from the cottages (which doesn't even make sense) and that we were getting special accommodations because the GM was scheduling rides off schedule for us. THATS INSANE. This place has been open since 1958, it should have a good system for letting guests go to and from the cottages. Guests should not feel like an inconvenience to the hotel, the hotel should be making guests feel comfortable and helping make their stay as easy and relaxing as possible. Highly encourage the hotel to figure this part out as it made every ride request uncomfortable. Overall, it makes me sad that I can't give this place a better review. Again, the actual cottage and beach were wonderful and since we cared the most about that for our trip, we made it a great one. But with that said, I will not be coming back to this hotel and will not be recommending it to others due to the staff that made it really uncomfortable and unpleasant. The front desk staff need to be trained on better customer service and how to best accommodate people staying at the cottages. Most importantly, the staff needs to stop providing people with contradicting information. It's incredibly frustrating to not be able to trust what hotel staff are saying.

    Great food, drinks, & atmosphere

Stopped for drinks at Peace & Plenty everyday of our trip to Georgetown. Annette was a great bar tender and Ash was the best… whether it was greeting us at the door, helping us catch the boat to the other side of the resort or singing karaoke, he made each visit a treat!
