Amazing and Perfect for us!
We have been to the beach club every time we go but this was our first stay at Hotel Playa Azul. We loved this place as it was smaller and more intimate. No crazy crowds and plenty of space. We stayed in the Grand Suite Hot tub Ocean View Suite that was comfortable, clean and spacious with a large balcony. We were on the 4th floor and the views are amazing! Housekeeping did an amazing job. We had a few lunches and couple dinners here and they were delicious! We had Fish Tacos, Ceviche, Burgers, Coconut Shrimp and Fish fingers. We are not big breakfast eaters, so we only had coffee most days but did have it a couple of days. They have a little bit of everything, fruit, breads, cereals, juice, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, an omelet station and a few other things. Every person there was so warm and welcoming. If you need anything or want assistance with tours, car rental or any other recommendations, just ask them. Special thank you to the staff who treated us like family and made our trip so special! Roberto, Kermit, Darwin, Martin, Karla and Ivan ~You all made us feel so welcome and we had so much fun. We were so sad to leave and look forward to coming back!

Great place, nice people, good price.
Went as a little getaway, as a trip within a trip. We had been staying in Playa del Carmen for a month and wanted a break from the noise, heat and crowds. Picked this place, directly booked for two nights, got there and immediately extended for another. A 45 minute ferry ride from Playa del Carmen, $10 taxi. USD works just fine, you can use either currency. A little worn around the edges but locally owned with some character. Not a "motel". We got a "suite", right on the water, gorgeous view. Check them out, the price differential is small and the extra space and amenities are worth it. I believe all rooms have an ocean view, though. Nice people, good food, very accommodating, a couple of additional funky (in a good way) restaurants right across the street. Felt very secure and safe. We will return.

Good, not great
It's a cute smaller hotel with rooms and suites and decent Snorkeling off the beach. Breakfast is a scaled down version of buffet style. Onsite restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, food is decent though waiting times are longer than we are used to in US. There are also several other places to eat lunch and dinner walking distance from the hotel. Swimming club next door is usually very loud with music and jet skis but only during the day. Beach is sandy and swimming is good though entering the water is rocky (swimming shoes recommended). There was plenty of lounges and shade. We stayed in the oceanview suite on the 2nd floor right in front of an outdoor beach bar (they play music until 10:30pm and close at 11pm), not ideal for us but we thought it will be OK if they got quiet by 11pm. Unfortunately it wasn't the case - there was a large family group that was very drunken loud every night still sitting at the bar until 1-2am. We complained to the night staff who begged them to leave or be more quet but they didn't care. After 3 sleepless nights we ended up moving to a smaller suite with worse view just so we could get some sleep. I think that management could've been more strict about enforcing the quet time after 11pm. Fyi, we were told that this loud drunky group comes every year at mid or end of February so beware.

Not for me
The hotel is in no where land. The free breakfast was okay, but the coffee was undrinkable, so I had to go out for breakfast every morning. The men at reception were very nice and helpful, but the women were surly, unhelpful and dismissive. The food for lunch was inedible. Just awful. My room was comfortable enough for me, but tired. Phone lines, bad lighting, bad outlet placement, loud air conditioning. I would not stay here again.

Great option to stay in Cozumel
Hotel Playa Azul in Cozumel offers an exceptional experience defined by warm hospitality. The staff is friendly and attentive. From the interactions at the restaurant to the room's cleanliness, you can tell the staff takes pride in making you feel at home. Thank you Monserrat, Guadalupe, Nubia, Francisco, Marina, and Ivan for creating a great experience for us. The hotel is clean and nice with a cozy beachfront, creating a relaxing atmosphere only a cab ride away from downtown Cozumel. The hotel building and facilities are a little bit older, and it sometimes shows even though they command a slightly high price point for the amenities they offer (this is why I am giving it a 4-point rating). However, the hotel staff makes up for it with their wonderful level of service.
