Review of Arecas hotel
Enjoyed our stay in November. Was particularly pleased that on request our first allocated room was able to be changed. We had to wait till another became available but was happy to do so.

Got lucky with room selection but didn't like many things
The hotel is very nice to look at and has great pool areas. We arrived having taken advantage of an offer for halfboard. The Flights/Transfers were all done with TUI and were excellent. We arrived at the hotel and were warm greeted only to find out there was a €27 charge for use of the safe. This immediately put a dampener on the holiday as I thought the purpose of having a safe was not to get robbed but here I was handing over money as I signed for the room. In hindsight, if I stayed there again I would forgo the safe and just risk my valuables in one of the many places in the room or in locked suitcase with dirty lining. We were very lucky to be given room 2081 which had a slightly longer balcony and although was the furthest walk from the reception area (5 mins) it meant we would be far away from the evening entertainment noise or breakfast room noise. The hotel staff were exceptional and main restaurant staff were superb. We did try OLE once but it was just a bit slow and stifled of food choice so it was our only trip. The live musical in the restaurant was a nice touch. The ppol areas and bars were very nice. Not much flexibility on the open/close canopies during very hot days but I am picking at straws. Overall we felt that the guests staying there were quite mature. I am 50 and my wife is 56 and we only spotted half a dozen couples younger than us. I would say that the average age was probably nearer 70. We do like an adults only resort but we felt that it needed to appeal to slightly younger couples to give it a balanced vibe. There were a couple of nights where it looked like the after party to the 1985 movie Cocoon. We did prefer the area of Playa Del Duque/Costa Adeje and enjoyed visiting La Caleta rather than staying further south but not sure if we would stay at Hotel Riu Acecas again. It was a nice holiday but we think we got lucky with a room and would probably prefer the vibe of another hotel.

Great place to celebrate
Stayed here to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary for which we were given a bottle if prosecco on both occasions. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and we could just about see the sea. It was a good size and kept very clean. The food was really good. Always lots to choose from and very tasty. Sometimes the tables weren't set ready but didn't wait long before a waiter would appear and give us cutlery etc. We had stayed here once before so we were aware of the 77 steps down to the promenade. This was a little difficult for me as I have recently had knee replacement surgery but I went slowly and managed it. The entertainment at night we found to be poor so most nights just sat in the lobby and played cards. We did do the trip to the other Riu hotel for the White Night party which we enjoyed despite being in an older age group! All the staff were very helpful and I tried my limited Spanish out and think this was well received. It is a lovely walk along to central Costa Adeje and we will return again
