The food was horrendous stone cold and re-heated the same food every day my wife was living off cheese and crackers most of the time when she wasn’t being ill would never go back there again the hotel itself was good the room we stayed in was pleasant enough

The good , the bad and the downright ugly
THE GOOD: Steakhouse, staff, bed comfort, beach and room AC. All were really good with the staff being more on the exceptional side than not. Bed was nice and comfy, firm but not stiff like a board. You could probably hang meat with the ac on its lowest setting which we really like. We ate at nearly all the specialty restaurants and the steakhouse stood out amongst the rest. Manhattan steakhouse quality it is not, but it is quite nice for an AI. The beach is nice white sand quite clean for something that gets used and abused by thousands daily. THE BAD : self serve machinery and the waterfront. Soft drink dispensers)are in dire need of repair, replacement or refurbishing. Ditto with the electric hand dryers in the men's rooms, some not working at all. Waterfrontage is nothing that anyone can do anything about but...being on the windward side of the island understand that it gets hammered with wind (duh!) and even though it is "protected" by a reef a few hundred yards off shore it is (at least the week we were there) always rough. Having said that, we experienced neither an undertow of any consequence, nor a rip tide. THE UGLY: electrical outlets, sun loungers, Asian and Italian restaurants. We had, I believe, six electrical outlets in our room. Two of them worked, one barely. We are finding this is may be typical of Riu properties. Some of the outlets are so worn that they can barely hold a plug of any sort and if you have one that is heavyish, forget it. I strongly recommend a remote power pack when visiting if you are a multiple device user as we are. Sun loungers...if you do not stake your claim with a towel or personal belongings before oh, 8:30 am you will find yourself without a place to park your butt. This practice really sucks, especially when some low life stakes their claim at 8:00 and doesn't show up to occupy it until 2-3:00 pm, or at all. This practice is particularly heinous at the pools and moderately so on the beach. Nothing that can be done about it. Rotten people will start it up and nice people will be forced to join in or not be able to enjoy the pool or the beach. The Asian restaurant was abysmal, period. They do sushi OK but that is pretty much the end of anything authentic from that part of the world. Italian was nearly as grim. None of these things ruined our holiday, but the lack of respect with the reserving of sun loungers came pretty close. Our expectations for the restaurants were prety low to begin with but we never went hungry. All in all we will probably not go back to the DR, and most certainly not the Riu Bambu. Many people will like it, especially somewhat budget conscious folks. Just not our cup of tea.

Horrible!
The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. We had to ask for a blanket and it had staines. The towels were old with threads coming out. Cockroach in bath. The piña colada tasted like vomit and other frozen drinks had too much syrup. The juices were all too diluted. The food in the buffet was not appetizing either too cooked or dry with flies around it.My husband and I both got sick to our stomach. I never saw anyone cleaning the pools which had food or throw up floating in it. Lounge chairs were never available since they were reserved before they opened by guests leaving tshirts or towel clips on them. No ATM available and no shuttles except for casino at night. The staff and shows were great!
