Disappointing
We went for a week to the Riu Maderia. All the staff that we met were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed. The food was average and as it is a platinum we were quite disappointed. The drinks were pretty disappointing, with the ready made cocktails being especially awful. I’m sure if there was a bar where decent drinks are served most people wouldn’t mind paying. The evening entertainment was pretty rubbish - given the fact this is not a cheap place to stay. Maybe tui should look at its rating.

Beautiful island
Just returned from a week at the Rui Madeira, to start with ever where is very clean in and out the hotel, check in was smooth and easy staff very helpful.we booked a room with a partial sea view,we had room 1170 which was great very clean , sea view and pool views had the sun all afternoon.also free safe in room is nice. As was the two bottles of water. The food was extremely good ,especially the fish and fruits.although the hotel is a little isolated the free courtesy bus is great also the local bus stops just outside the hotel and when we went on it the driver just waved us on so didn’t have to pay ,happened both ways.plenty of sun beds never had a problem getting one . The pool bar is ok, food a bit limited. The entertainment was ok loved the traditional dancing, think it would be helpful to have the drinks on display at the bars as some are not shown on the menu’s ie super bock stout , Prosecco and peanuts. Didn’t do any of the tours as weather was mixed but the cable car and toboggan are a must.overall lovely holiday will return.

Excellent
The only thing I would have liked was to have English Tea Bags and sachets of whole milk in the room coffee creme doesn't really work with tea anyway.

Rui Medeira
Hotel was busy, staff were really friendly, hotel clean, food varied and a good standard, location for us was fine, a bit out of Funchal, but we had a car so not a problem. Hotel was well maintained, rooms were of a good size, loved the shower.
