wonderful stay
This was our first major trip in a couple of years. Upon checking in the person at the desk explained to lock up valuable in the safe if we would not like things to be taken. At this point I decided that we would not have housekeeping for our stay and that was fine with us. The resort itself is large but fairly easy to navigate. There are quite a few steep stairs. We had a standard room which had ocean views and was able to see the construction of a new site next door. It was relaxing to sit out on the balcony. Food: We ate at the buffet and sometimes at the outdoor hut. The buffet had a great selection with different themes. The fruit was always fresh. The seafood was excellent. There are 2 omelette stations in the morning. Franco and his brother were our main servers during our stay. He did a wonderful job and always made space for us when he would see us walking in. We did not try any of the specialty restaurants because we didn't want to wait for seating. Pools: The pools with the bars were for adults. Sit by the adult bars because it is great people watching. The amount of adults swaying and not looking to well was quite interesting. Or the people arguing that they aren't drunk as they are slurring with one eye closed. But there were 3 other pools and one with a volleyball net for families. The waterpark was a short park and this was the highlight for my sons. I wish I remembered the servers at the pool because they were always around to bring drinks. Entertainment: The foam party was great and the entertainment team did a wonderful job with the music and dancing. It did get crazy because the kids and a bunch of drunk adults in a foam party was an interesting mix. Every morning my kids enjoyed the waterpolo and sometimes would do volleyball after. Some of the evening shows were nice such as the Michael Jackson show. Room: The room was nice but it is open. The toilet was in a small room but the shower was right there in the open even though the glass door was frosted. From researching the resort, I did bring a shower curtain, command hooks, and string to hang. It gave some privacy between myself and sons. I did read the hotel provided privacy screens but did not ask for it. The beds were comfortable and was able to ask for extra towels through the app. We did bring a firestick to stream shows at night. I do recommend to bring an extension cord for it and a power strip. If you have multiple electronics there isn't a lot of outlets. Overall it was a nice stay.

Good, not excellent
So, we stayed in the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, it was between that and Planet Hollywood, we opted for the Riu due to reviews. Let me start by saying overall, this hotel is great, food, cleanliness, staff are all really good, but a few things do let this hotel down. Room- the room is large with lots of storage, the shower cubical is also very big with storage. The room wont suit everyone, there are lots of comments regards the privacy aspect and I do agree, but it didn’t impact us, the toilet is also a little on the small side and it does become smelly. The biggest problem we found in the room were the double bed, with 2 adults and a 7 years old, the 7 year old was loving the fact she had a double bed, but for my wife and myself the beds were far to small to share, we did ask reception for another bed, and we had a single within half an hour. Food- the is an abundance of food within the Riu, the choice is unbelievable 2 weeks in the resort we never got bored or felt the food was repetitive, the quality of produce was also outstanding. We enjoyed the Japanese the most, Krystal was our least favourite, closely followed by the steakhouse, although the food was good at the steakhouse your outside and its so so hot, I never enjoy sweating while eating! Bars- All the bars are great, we loved early evening in the Square Garden, the piano player with the hat was amazing. The staff are also so attentive, tip well and you will never run dry of a drink. Entertainment- We loved the White party and the silent disco the most, but also enjoyed Michael Jackson. We found that if the entertainment wasn’t great at our hotel, chances are at the Dunamar they would have something better so we would walk across there. Entertainment during the day wasn’t the greatest, water volleyball, beach activities like throw the horseshoe, bingo etc. For the size of the hotel you would think a bit more effort would have gone into this. Kids Club- This was the biggest disappointment of the holiday, with a 7 year old she doesn’t want to sit and relax she wants to be active, so a kids club is great for this. Unfortunately for a 5 star resort the kids club is seriously lacking; it opens at 10 and they do 5 activities up till 5. But apart from taking the kids to the waterslides the activities were not great, they didn’t really engage the kids. Our hotel last year in Mexico the kids were taken for lunch together, they went out on boats, they did things in the evening (not every night), at the Riu they didn’t even have a water dispenser within the kid’s club room. After 4 days my daughter wouldn’t go back, speaking to other parents we weren’t alone. Pools- this was another disappointment, the pools were so so hot, not comfortable, whether the hotel can do anything about this I am not sure. Also, I was disappointment that kids weren’t allowed in the swim up pools, but after looking at the pools at the end of the day I was glad in the end she couldn’t come in! Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives, but would I stay again probably not, because of the kid’s club and lack of activities. This hotel could very easily be an adults only hotel and it does cater more for adults than kids.

Great relaxing holiday
Been to Cancun 7 times before but it’s the first to stay at this hotel. It is a great hotel and very clean they never stop here. Staff are very attentive in particular Leon from the buffet and Italian, who is a great guy, interacting with all holiday makers and ensuring they have what they need, a great host. Jose from the square garden bar, and Ray for the beach bar service. Also Andica from the buffet who always has our table ready in the mornings. Only thing for us is that you are a little isolated if you like to venture out to Cancun it will cost you 50-60 dollars in a taxi each way. There is an abundance of food and majority is to a good standard. On a whole we loved the relaxation and the beach is amazing. Plenty of activities for those wanting to participate. I can’t emphasise how hard working all of the staff are including behind the scenes. Would definitely recommend.

Great place to stay with family!
Great place to stay with family! The only issue is the small kid club, it works for kids till 5 years old, but for older is not interesting at all. The food was great, everything was clean, enough places at the beach.
