Riu Republica 2025
Vacancy, we wanted to do nothing, and that is what happened. Great resort. Staff is friendly, drinks were good and the food was also very great. We stayed a bit more at the back, and we were pleased when we realized we had our "own little buffet". Yes, there is 2 buffet on Riu Republica. Huge thanks to Francheska for giving us and awesome and quiet room. AC is a bit too low tho, we were cold the first night, but asked for extra blankets and got them. 10/10

Girls Trip
My friend and I had a great time for the short time we were there. We met such great people and had a lot of great food and drinks. There were a few things that could be improved. The food at the sports bar was disgusting. It made me sick just looking at it. The floor in the club was very sticky and slippery. This could have been controlled with more carpets near the entrance and by the bar. I also seen many people being over served. The access to the beach at night did not make me feel safe. I was being harassed by a man in front of the security guard and no one came to my assistance. I helped someone who was by the water at the beach late at night who was over served. They attempted to get into the water with the high waves. Overall I had a great time and those few things did not hinder my experience. I would definitely recommend

Another great time at the Republica
This was our fifth time at the Republica in the last six years. First off a very special thanks to Roberto the manager of the main buffet and Juan at the sports bar. These two in particular always treat my wife and I like gold, we love them guys. We had a suite this time and it is definitely an upgrade from the rooms we normally have had. With that said, even with a suite we often did not have hot water. There were a lot of ants and fact is the resort is in serious need of remodeling and modernizing. The cleaning staff were excellent and did a great job although early in the morning the cleaning ladies out in the halls were a little over the top loud but it wasn't the end of the world. Food wise the jerk chicken is always fantastic, breakfast at the main buffet is always good. For dinner you won't go hungry but it isn't great. I mostly ate pasta cooked fresh at the pasta station for dinner. In closing the Republica is not like most of the resorts we go to (we do usually two trips every winter) The republica is a very mixed crowd that has trended younger but there are plenty of pools and you can easily find the one that best suits what you feel like for the day as well as an amazing beach. But one think unlike other resorts is everywhere you look people are having fun and it is a very loose environment. The parties are also always a blast.

Witnessed fatal drownings, staff & emergency protocols less than adequate
WARNING: 4 tourists drowned in front of us during our stay. -red flag IS NOT VISIBLE ENOUGH, staff do not care whether ocean is dangerous unlike other resorts where they close or encourage people off the beach -someone from our party actually pulled in one of the bodies. she had to scream for help for >10 mins as Riu staff just watched people trying to resuscitate him -took over 20 minutes for any kind of emergency response - no oxygen available, tourists performing CPR, police running up and down the beach with seemingly no direction or emergency planning -this was extremely traumatic and totally preventable with better communication from the hotel regarding ocean safety/where the flag even was. it was not on the beach, so it's lost on me how that even serves as a warning when most of us couldn't see it -one more body was brought in that day. all of us watched the rescue boats going back and forth trying to find the 2 other bodies. absolutely horrific, and no communication following this incident, let alone checking in with the tourists who dragged out one of the bodies -tons of tourists stood and filmed the ordeal because the beach was not closed/no staff assistance in trying to respect the deceased. disgusting. -our first day there we heard domestic violence above us - a woman hysterically crying and a man throwing things, slamming the door and screaming at her, namecalling as well. tried to call reception/emergency security...no luck. phone in room did not work. we had to call friends to run to reception (5 min trip) so they could send security. no idea whether security actually came or not. drinks: beware of SPIKING - heard that many people got spiked during our stay. drinks overall delicious though (try the banana mama) and bartenders very chatty/friendly. rooms: spacious and comfortable, extremely damp though - check your coffee maker, alcohol bottles, mattress, pillows for mould -water went out multiple days between 9-11am...couldn't shower/flush entertainment: the stage shows were hilariously cringey - definitely not a highlight but pretty funny to watch. the parties made up for how bad the entertainment was - they're fun, bright, busy, and cool dancers food: pretty good! indian restaurant was my favourite. buffets had lots of variation between the 2 and different days of week beach: very uneven, very dangerous waves, lots of empty loungers though which is good. towels werent available to us for 2 days...bring your own. staff: not good service in terms of refilling drinks/serving coffee in the morning. once you flagged down service though, extremely friendly. honestly just seemed short staffed some days. -app doesnt work - have to get water at reception, not through app -maids really thorough & friendly overall, in principle, i will never stay here again. the deaths were preventable. when i mentioned to reception how horrific it was to watch everything happen, she was indifferent and her response was "ok?...thank you?". i cant believe the lack of accountability we saw after witnessing multiple people's deaths. it is a public beach of course, and people have to heed flag warnings, but that morning we did not see a red flag that was visible enough to deter people from the water. total negligence from Riu Republica.

Never again! Don’t stay here!
First day here and I’m ready to leave! The resort is not clean, our key cards keep quitting, the room AC doesn’t cool the room. The exterior hall lights in our building on level 3 don’t work. This can’t be safe. The food is ok. This is NOT a 5 star resort 3 star at best. Don’t waste your money here. First time and last time we’ll stay here. Our group is making the best of it for the time we’re here.
