Fantastic Holiday!
Fantastic hotel, service and restaurants. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Would definitely return. Pool concierge Antonio was so helpful during our stay and building concierge Araceli. All the restaurants are amazing and the choice of food and quality is outstanding. It’s the small things like the turn down service on an evening, don’t have to request it they just come and do it

Exceptional experience
Amazing experience and staff were so friendly and helpful. Special mention to Sophia, hope I got the name right (the sip and paint lady)! She went out of her way to run the sip and paint lessons with us even when we arrived late. She was also very instrumental in telling us events happening around the resort. Thank you !

A wonderful resort
My wife and I have just returned from a 10-night stay at Secrets Akumal. We have previously stayed at other Secrets resorts - The Vine, Playa Mujeres, and St James (Jamaica). We stayed in building 7, in a non-preferred room with tropical view. The layout and design of the resort provides the sense that it is much larger than what it is. The tropical gardens are lush with lots of mature trees, and on several occasions, we encountered iguanas, different birds and racoons. It took a day to familiarise ourselves with the resort, but after this, realised that everything was very accessible within a short walk. The entire resort is extremely well kept, tidy and clean. Most of our days followed a similar pattern. Due to the time difference between Mexico and the UK, we were up early and in the gym at 6am. The gym is well equipped, for a hotel gym, with a variety of free weights, resistance and cardio machines. They also offer a group training session at 9am, although we never participated. We generally headed down to the pool for around 7am, stopping at the Coco Café to grab a couple of coffees and pastries on route. The cafe is open 24/7, offering a variety of hot and cold drinks, pastries, cookies, sandwiches/paninis. You pretty much have your choice of sunbeds at this time, although they tend to get taken between 7.30 – 9am. The pool concierge do a good job of trying to monitor beds that have been “reserved”, but not used by guests, and allocate them to others. Throughout our stay, we never had an issue with lack of beds, either at the pool or beach. We’d spend the days in and out of the pool, taking strolls along the beach, and getting involved in the comprehensive programme of activities and games organised by the Entertainment Team. Some these included beach and pool volleyball, aqua fitness, bingo, cocktail making competition, footdarts, bracelet making, all of which were fun. At lunchtime, you have a variety of dining options. You can visit one of the restaurants, order food to be served at your sunbed, or get a freshly baked pizza at the pizza oven station. However, our favourite was visiting a temporary buffet station near the main pool, serving daily specials on rotation – tacos, barbeque fish, barbeque chicken, jacket potatoes, burgers etc. We visited all but the preferred restaurants in the evening. The resort operates a “non-booking” policy, so you may encounter a short wait for a table. This was never an issue as you can roam the resort or grab a drink in the bar whilst waiting. Again, service in all restaurants was second to none, and the food was delicious. Portions are not huge, but there is no restriction on how much you can order. The Entertainment Team offer a free bike tour of the local town every few days. I highly recommend this as it gets you off resort with a guide, and you visit a local cenote. One of the main reasons we chose Akumal was because of the turtles. We took our own snorkel gear with us, but the resort can loan you equipment for a small fee. We went searching for turtles on our own on a few occasions without success. Towards the end of our stay, we went on a guided tour and had a wonderful experience. We saw dozens of turtles and plenty of fish. You can book guided tours through the resort, or there are plenty of vendors on the beach offering tours at half the cost. To conclude, the resort is lovely, probably the best all-inclusive we’ve visited. However, what makes this place extra special is the staff. Every single staff member we interacted with was so welcoming, attentive and friendly. They truly make you feel like a VIP. The entertainment team are fun and encourage you to participate in activities. The pool concierge and servers check in on you regularly to see if they can be of assistance. We took full advantage of the service, sampling lots of cocktails.... to stay hydrated of course! Secrets Akumal has raised the bar for future holidays, and I’ve no doubt we will return in the future.

Top Notch - Worth Every Cent - Bring Your Snorkel!
We went 9 years ago when this resort opened. The foliage has overgrown a lot to the point where we were a little lost at first for orientation. Just know the Lobby is not the center of the resort. The app helps with knowing what's going on - download it. Also download the MPC app for mobile Passport for US - saves you time in customs line. ROOMS - are super clean, they smell good, and the beds are soft, pillows are plentiful and are goose. As many towels as you need, even toothpaste and tooth brush. They think of everything. LADIES - they supply everything, but if you have longer hair, bring your own conditioner (it's just okay). The lotion and shampoo and body gel are great! SEAWEED - they stay on top of it with a truck to haul it away, but the other resorts don't. It's not as bad as other resorts for sure. It's nature. BEACH - is one of the best. White sand, emerald water, different colors of blues. We arrived at beach at 7:30am and there was no one out there saving spots. There are just so many options and loungers and huts, you can sleep in. There will be some after breakfast still. The pool was the same way. Maybe 3 chairs taken after 8am. I haven't seen that before at a resort! There are plenty of towels. NO SEAGULLS - I didn't see one. There are some black birds, but they don't bother you. SNORKEL - bring your own gear is you have it, even generic. Flippers encouraged. You can rent it about 4 min walk down to the left on the public beach. FOOD - is excellent. Our favorite is the Sushi and French. Market Cafe for breakfast is wonderful and they have the best service! It's tucked away so you can't sit outside and see the ocean, but there is an option for Preferred Club to sit by ocean for breakfast. COFFEE - in the rooms, room service coffee is super good, but we always love Coco Cafe. They can make anything expect cold foam. It's also tucked away from the beach and it's a walk, but a pretty one! GYM - they have everything you need. 2 Smith machines with as much weight as you need, free weights, every type of cardio machine and traditional machines. VOLLEYBALL - beach volley is great, depends on who plays, but there have a somewhat shaded spot and it's a perfect location. They also have pool vball and pool basketball. POOL - the underwater bikes and Aqua Strong (paddleboard in pool class) is a must try. Go early for a spot. They have a popular stretching class lead by the entertainment staff too. COURTS - they only have tennis courts. No actual pickleball court with lines. They have mobile nets for it, it's on turf. I told them to actually build Pickleball courts and more people would come! The closest actual courts are 40 min away. SPA - beautiful of course, worth it! Hydrotherapy is great if you don't want the expense of a massage. POOLS - there are 3 huge pools! Quiet pool is closest to the lobby. And they mean quiet. Surrounded by jungle - very pretty and by a lot of things. The 2 main pools ae centrally located with plenty of space for everyone. They come by with ice cream and have great pool side service! Cruze is a great waiter! The pool concierge's are also great and make sure you have anything you need, umbrellas, towels, etc. The pools are very clean and kept up well. The hotel felt full of people, but there was plenty of space. Cement can get hot, but it's white and not as hot as other places. OVERALL - the hour it takes from the airport is worth it. It's beautiful and the beach is worth the trip itself. If you like to see turtles and snorkel, this place i s amazing. We'll be back! We use Amstar always for transfers. It seems like Tulum is closer, but Cancun is cheaper to fly into still. Same distance from each airport, so we use Cancun. The city of Akumal is very close - like 10 min away. I'd go during the later morning hours or before dinner before shops close.

Loved akumal!
Since we got to the airport three hours early, annnnd our flight is delayed, I guess I'll work on a review! For reference, we've been to all inclusives in Cancun a handful of times (grand moon palace with kids, Le Blanc without), Puerto Vallarta Ziva/Riu and Cabo a few times. we love Mexico! Also, snorkeling. TL;DR - loved it!! I personally have no sense of direction, so this resort would've been very difficult without my husband! The property is gorgeous! Clean, love the grounds, all the plants/flowers and occasionally spiny or furry friends. The service was so amazing - especially the entertainment crew, they really seemed to honestly love their jobs - shout out to Maximilian who we ran into over and over - bike tour (fun but a little sketchy!), blackjack, fun activities. He was very happy and passionate! EXELENTE! Room: started with a basic room booked on points, tropical view, didn't love it so we upgraded for the last two nights and had a huge ocean front room that was amazing! conditioner wasn't great for those who care 😜 but the store was just a quick walk and we picked up a few things. Food was great! Standouts for ne were short ribs at hamitsu and teppanyaki, whole fried fish lunch at seaside and escargot and chicken cordon Bleu & steak at French! We didn't love the Italian but lots of people did! All the pop-ups were good and fun! Snorkeling was great when you paid -we had a young lady guide I believe her name was Anna Maria and she was excellent! She could spot everything! We saw turtles, sting ray, lots of fish, squid etc. Unfortunately when we snorkeled in the areas allowed without paying we didn't see much. It was pretty windy most of our stay, it was also difficult to get chairs in the preferred section of the beach and sometimes hard to get chairs at the pool in the afternoon. The concierge(s) were great and helpful. We did feel like we were tipping constantly and it sucks when you forget to take cash! Overall an amazing stay - a churro cart and fresh tortilla station would take it over the top!! Kalido was EXCELENTE for transportation.
