We had been to many Secrets Resorts in Mexico (The vine, Maroma, Silver Sands, Playa mujeres,…) and Dominican Republic as it’s normally our go-to choice. Unfortunately this is so far a disappointing experience. After 20hrs of travel the check in was slow, our room was not ready (we arrived 20mins prior to official check in time at 14:40 and the receptionist let us know that we are early multiple times) and overall we did really feel welcomed but rather brushed off. We booked a partial ocean view instead of a tropical view and they supposedly upgraded us to a full ocean view but the room is so far in the back that you need a spyglass to see anything from the ocean. So in case you consider booking an ocean view, it’s probably not worth it. Our beds have totally dirty pillows with make up and stains from previous guests (yikes). Our booking description from the agency had a jacuzzi also on the terrace but we learned that our room doesn’t! It’s only for the preferred club. Finding a spot at the beach is another challenge as all the nice sun beds we were not allowed/welcomed (again it’s only for preferred club) but instead you can lay on cheap sun beds that any 3 star hotel offers. Of course, if you want a sunbed with an umbrella you gotta be at the beach at 8am to “reserve one” with your towels! Yes, it really is like that and feels more like a cheap holiday hotel instead of a luxury hotel which secrets normally stands for. Service at the beach is questionable, if you ask for a coffee for example you get the answer to get it yourself from coco cafe. I don’t want to be too negative as there are positives too. I would say breakfast is on the same level as the other secrets and overall the hotel is at an ok level. However if you come here expecting a similar experience as in Secrets Maroma etc then you will be disappointed. Our biggest complaint is probably that everything is super dark (rooms, facilities etc). Make sure you get a room near the ocean as it’s probably quite different since it’s past the jungle and light should come through. We definitely won’t be back here and would cancel if we could but it’s high season so finding something last second is near impossible. Domenik Andre

5 Star! Wonderful Couples Escape!!
Wow, wow, and just....WOW! If you are considering this resort, book it! My husband I and I just returned from a week here and I cannot say enough good things about this resort. In short, we have travelled to many resorts over the years - Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican - some of them Secrets as well. NONE of them compare to this one. PROS Staff - Just amazing! Every single one of them works hard to make sure you have everything you could need or want. Even little things that might make your stay more enjoyable, if they can provide, they absolutely will. Special shout out to OSUNA and Sharon at pool 2 - so attentive, genuinely friendly and helpful. Grounds - Breathtaking! Grounds are immaculate and stunning. Pools are clean, rooms are good size and very clean...beds comfortable. If you are like us, I always worry about being able to get a chair by the pool unless I go down super early. No need to worry here. When you get to the pool you want, there is always a pool concierge willing to help find you the perfect spot. We typically went down around 9-10am after breakfast and not once had any issues finding a great spot for the day. Food - Lots of variety and majority is very very good. If you can't find something to enjoy, that is NOT on the resort. They have several good restaurants offering a variety of food. All of them EXCEPT Himatsu Tepanyaki is NO reservation required. Generally they are quite quick to get you in depending on time you arrive. We typically had dinner between 6-7pm before any shows. And getting a reservation at Tepanyaki was no issue either. We were able to get one on the night we requested - Definitely try it. The chefs are amazing! CONS If I had to come up with something - if you want special maid services - decorative towel art, flowers on bed etc, you probably won't get - even if you tip. They do what they need to and move on. We were completely fine with just having the room cleaned. ONLY RECOMMENDATION - We booked a junior swim out king bed. In hindsight, I would not spend the money on it. The swimout was nice, room was great but 2 things - First, the noise. In these rooms you are on the bottom level. if you return to your room for some quite time, you may not be getting it. the rooms are all along the main path between buildings and if you are in front of an elevator like we were, depending on the other guests, you may notice it can get quite lively lol Second, again, depending on the guests, you can have people swimming right up to your back balcony - kind of weird but it did happen. Again, nothing the resort can really do but if you are considering it, be aware. We will likely return but would get a normal room. You spend most of your time out on the grounds anyway and I'd rather spend the money on the people who service the heck out of the guests. Thank you Secrets Akumal for a very relaxing and enjoyable week! Hope you see you soon :)

The most AMAZING Hotel I have ever stayed in! 🤩 5 STAR experience ⭐️ Worth every penny!
From the moment we stepped into the hotel after a long flight, we was welcomed by the amazing team who greeted us with ‘Welcome Home’ we instantly felt safe and relaxed. We was greeted with a refreshing towel and welcome drink and the check in was smooth and easy. Hoolio took us to our room with our bags and we was absolutely delighted with how stunning our Tropical View Double room was, it was spacious, sparkling clean and so inviting! We could not wait to explore the hotel so went down for dinner and had a beautiful Mexican buffet down at the show. We were so exited to wake up and explore this stunning and beautiful hotel after an amazing sleep. You could hear the birds singing and the sun shining it really felt like you were in paradise! I have been lucky to travel to the Maldives and this place was equally as amazing on every levels! Stunning views, amazing service and the most friendliest people you will meet! It’s definitely 5 star service for a reason! We were in block 7 and Raphael our concierge man was so helpful, it was like having your own personal assistant. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the favourite part of the day for me and my partner. There was every food option from freshly made omelettes, to fresh fruit smoothies, pastries we were in food heaven. Ontonio at breakfast was a delight so friendly and welcoming and a ray of sunshine, you could tell he loved his job and just made our day talking to him! I could be here all day writing a review about this absolutely stunning hotel 🤩 but all I would say is BOOK you will not regret it! I want to do a couple more shout outs to Fernando our waiter at Himitsu was the best service I have ever received at a restaurant. We kept coming back as he was the nicest man and was a credit to the hotel! The food was amazing in every restaurant but Himitsu was by far our favourite, where we celebrated my partners 40th. The teppenyaki was delicious and the chef was so funny and you could tell he loved his job! Every day felt like you was in paradise, me and my partner felt like we had been there weeks and we were only staying for 8 nights. Not long enough! The Entertainment team, Antonio and Gabriel by the pool and Cruz the waiter. Were so attentive everyday asking how we was. My partner even made friends with Gabriel as he made us feel so happy and positive every day, asking if we wanted to participate in any activities and yet again you could tell he absolutely loved where he worked, was the happiest man and made our experience one of the best at Akumal. The beach is absolutely stunning, I got talking to Ruben who asked me how they can improve on anything to give feedback as the hotel prides themselves in giving people the best experience ever and that’s why I can see from the level of quality why people can’t stop coming back! The food is incredible from lunch time BBQ’s by the pool area, to freshly made pizzas this hotel really has it all! It’s great to have the choice to eat in a restaurant at lunch or just relaxed by the pool if you wished. The turtle swim was brilliant! Walks along the beautiful white sandy, beaches. Bingo by the pool, guacamole making. Endless games and shows. One of the best nights was The voice which was absolutely loved. The staff are a credit to this hotel. We also loved the themed nights like The beetles this hotel really caters for every age. A big shoutout to Maria at the coffee shop she greeted us everyday with a smile and yet again loved her job. She was another credit to the hotel. The little raccoon made an appearance which was so sweet to see all the beautiful wildlife and Rango the iguana. I have never ever been to a hotel where I was treated like family! It was 5 STARS on every level, I am a big foodie and ALL the restaurants were amazing! The fresheners and quality was incredible, I am very well travelled and do not write many reviews, but if I could give this hotel 10 STARS I would! The level of cleanliness is second to none. I would love to try the spa next time, as we went on excursions to playa del carmen and Xcarat we did not have a chance to experience the spa but will be back! The room service was also included, so when they say it’s ALL inclusive it really is! We may even try a preferred club room next time to see how it compares to our one we had stayed in. My partner is into his gym and absolutely loved it. The only one thing I wished the concierge had told us was about when we arrived was that they offer the free tour to playa del carmen, but we did not know this until one of our last days this should be made known when you arrive. As some people would not know this was included and pay for a cab into town when they don’t need to. It was only I saw it on the tablet in the room that I realised. But all in all it was the most stunning hotel, with the most amazing staff I’ve ever met! Photos to follow! Can’t wait to see you again Secrets Akumal this holiday and the amazing staff have my year! 🤩 We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This five star hotel was one of the best ones in Cancun and Riviera Maya area. Excellent Foods and Services were the most appreciated features. This is the best All inclusive hotel out of our total 24 Cancún trips!!!!! Big shout to my concierge Diana and Jose and Waiter Jose and Receptionist Alexa at Seaside Grill👍🙌🤗

Exceptional!
Everything about this resort is top notch. Every staff member was polite, kind and helpful. A special thanks to Sergio, our concierge in building 9c. Wonderful service with a smile every day! The food was mostly very good. The breakfast buffet at the Market Cafe was extraordinary. I’ve traveled a lot but this was really over the top fantastic. I especially loved the pizzas at the small place near the main pool. We weren’t crazy about Portofino, but that was an exception. The rooms were comfortable. Weird bathroom layout as there’s only a curtain between the bedroom and the jacuzzi tub, and a partial see through into the toilet. But we were a family so what the hell!! The main pool can get a little loud with lots of activities, folks drinking at the swim up bar, etc. Fun if that’s your thing. We preferred the next pool in. All of the pools have little areas - not just a rectangle. The quiet pool was a little too quiet for us. The pool concierges were amazing as were the folks that bring you drinks, food, even ice cream comes!
