Lovely peaceful, relaxing Holiday
Pros: Very attentive staff throughout the resort. The hostess at the Marketplace Cafe always knew our name. Shoutout to Gloria at Bordeaux Restaurant for making me the best Blueberry Tea. Pool waiters/ess the best. VERY large food portions when ordering off menu. Shows were ok when they actually happened. Fire show and buffet by the pool was the best. The most magnificent pools, scenery and beautiful beach leading to a wonderful area to swim in the ocean. Very relaxing atmosphere. Cons: The resort is in desperate need of upgrading. It does not meet up to other Secret resorts standards. Pool tiles missing, only 2 elevators operating to pool area, outdated, very used uncomfortable furniture in lounge and lobby areas, poor lighting in the evenings for stolling around the resort and walking to Castaway and Oceanic restaurants. The under used lounge that was up by these 2 restaurants has poor, sloping, slanted stairs that are very dangerous to walk up. No railings for people to maneuver the pool area stairs. Not nice lounge areas where you can go enjoy a quiet drink. The hotel has many senior guests and it does not meet the 4.6 rating it boasts, Hotel 3.5 and location, scenery, pools and the ocean bring it to a 4.0 rating.

Secrets Huatulco is great but………
We have not travelled to Mexico for 10 years. Prior to that we went to Mexico 2 times every year. Bahia Principe, Secrets Maroma, Secrets the Vine, Riu Palace, Secrets Cabo, Iberostar Grand and we loved them all. We then started to travel to Croatia (lots of family) and Arizona (our dear niece owned a lovely home that she would let us use). When we arrived at Secrets Huatulco hubby and I were blown away. We had a swim out room in building 5. Absolutely incredible. We loved everything about Secrets Huatulco it is so relaxing and the location and views of the bay are jaw dropping. Secrets Huatulco is a different level than other Secret resorts but there is something magic about it. Yes it could use some renovations but there was nothing that spoiled our trip. The staff do not speak English as well as they do on the Mayan side but it is certainly better than my Spanish. They work very hard to keep the resort spotless. We found the food ranged from decent to very good. Breakfast and lunch at Castaways were both excellent. We went Dec 13 to 20 and it was not crowded - restaurants were easy to get into and chair saving at the pool was not an issue. I walked the beach between 6:30 and 7 am and there were a few people saving chairs - but they were using them. One day we did see a staff member removing towels from chairs - so they may actually start enforcing the new rules regarding chair saving. I literally was planning our next Secrets Huatulco trip we could not wait to return and then I got food poisoning on day 5 of our trip. I was very very sick. Thank goodness I had gotten a prescription for antibiotics (just in case) before we left. I could not leave our room for 2-1/2 days and could not eat anything. Not a great way to spend a vacation. I was very concerned about our flight home I did not eat or drink anything just took meds. Thankfully we made it home and I think I have now 95% recovered. I know you can get food poisoning anywhere but it is more common in Mexico and other third world countries. It breaks my heart honestly I’m tearing up right now but I’m not going to travel to Mexico again I was just too sick. I’m 71 years old and I never want to be get that sick again. I have not seen other posts about food poisoning at Secrets Huatulco so hopefully it is a rare occurrence. I would highly recommend the resort to people who travel to Mexico and are not concerned about Montezuma’s Revenge

Secrets Huatulco
The resort has gone downhill since our last visit 5 years ago. The Hyatt has bought Secrets chains and have cheaped out on things. No Mexican beer at pool food not hot at some restaurants and not enough staff for servers. There were a few people that helped us. Roberto in the lobby got us a taxi and made sure to speak Spanish to the driver so we were dropped off where we wanted to go. Marco took care of our luggage when we changed rooms. Eden booked us a table on Oaxaca night right near the entertainment and had our wine waiting on ice. Natalie in Market was always very pleasant. Abraham with membership was very helpful and polite. He didn't pressure us when we asked him to let us enjoy our stay. Abigail at front desk accommodated us with our room change when we were booked in the wrong type of room. Overall we had a very enjoyable vacation. We hope we return with improvements.

Critical Review of Entitled Tourists:
Critical Review of Entitled Tourists: A Blight on Hospitality There’s a certain kind of tourist that manages to dampen the very atmosphere of what should be a welcoming and serene destination. These are the ones who, despite being guests, behave as if the world revolves around their whims and preferences. Entitled, overly critical, and often oblivious to the effort that goes into creating a memorable experience, they leave a trail of negativity wherever they go. This entitlement reveals itself in nit-picking over the most trivial issues—complaints about the temperature of their drink, a minor delay in service, or even the shade of paint on a building. Rather than embracing the uniqueness of their destination, they impose their own rigid expectations, forgetting that they are visitors, not proprietors. Such behavior doesn’t just burden the staff but also other visitors, who have to endure the sour mood these individuals create. As someone who deeply values this location, I’ve come to appreciate its authenticity and the hard work of those who maintain it. It’s a place that deserves respect, not undue criticism from those who fail to appreciate its charm. Hearing these dissatisfied tourists declare they’ll never return is, in fact, a relief. It means the destination will be freer of their negativity, allowing those who truly value its essence to enjoy it in peace. Let’s leave the nit-picking and entitlement at home and embrace the experience for what it is: an opportunity to explore, appreciate, and support the people and places that make our favorite destinations so special. For those who can’t, perhaps staying home is the better option—for everyone involved.

Huatulco and Secrets are a must for Canadians
The junior suite swim up room was clean and met all our needs. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had lots of water pressure. The location in the resort was great. We took advantage of the resort location walked around to explore near by bays, towns, and cities. (15-1.5hr walks). There was lots of different kinds of birds and ocean life to observe around the area. The restaurant variety was typical of a resort and the food was great. The overall customer service is a 10. Everyone is friendly and very helpful. We may never go back to Cancun or the Mayan Rivera as the resort and Huatulco are much cleaner, better weather, and a more authentic experience.
