    Not quite as advertised

    Not what was expected according to their online information no non-motorized water sports or snorkeling at resort unless you wanted to purchase an excursion, online said included and available not enough wait staff to service people around the pool, 1-2 people cannot not handle that much ground and why tip when you get two drinks within 2 hours restaurant for lunch opens at 12:30 no option besides continental breakfast set up at the bar or the buffet. the only restaurant you could go to you had to pay for the upgrade of preferred. Room service was fast and efficient except when you let them know food was ready to be picked up in the outside cabinet. trust me after two days begins to smell. Gourdgeous facility, beach and rooms. Theater entertainment was good. Drinks were strong Any seafood dish we tried met or exceeded expectations

    It is a beautiful hotel with great food, and our butler, Diego excellent work I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Santo, who was in charge of timeshare services and was an excellent representative. unfortunately, we decided not to move forward with it, but everything went excellent nice room with a private pool

    Christmas Holiday

    We went here for Christmas and New Year, I have to say this hotel is the best we have been in, in the Caribbean ! The staff are all so friendly and helpful they don’t hang around for tips. The food was very good 80% of the time odd things just were not up to scratch and I mean odd things. The whole resort was spotless clean and the rooms were lovely. Couple of things to be improved the wine was very nice but I do think the cocktails need improvement as every time you had one it was different from the last time it was made and I also found a lot of them just looked and tasted the same. We also found the girls in the lobby bar friendly but if they could go past and pretend to not see you so you would go to the bar yourself, they would saving them a job. Also the entertainment team are very clicky with certain people and kind of wasn’t that friendly with us but then if we don’t join in I suppose that is what happens. I would 100% return to the Secrets brand.

    Honeymoon at Secrets Tides

    My husband and I went on our honeymoon and had a fabulous time. We were part of the preferred club and had a private butler (Jonathan) and a private swim out pool. We took advantage of all the amenities such as; the spa, the preferred club pools/bars, gym, and pickle-ball courts. Every restaurant was divine, especially Tierra, a South American Fusion cuisine. Our butler Jonathan surprised us with rose petals on our bed with a bottle of champagne and a delicious breakfast in bed. The entertainment team, including "Harry Potter", was amazing and ensured that the guests were entertained during the day and at night. We can't wait to return to Secrets Tides. I highly recommend this resort to any couple who would like a relaxing and intimate honeymoon.

    Give them another year to figure it out and fire the management! Potential but still not ready.

    Secrets Tides - Most disappointing trip since travelling to Secrets Resorts and becoming UVC members 13 years ago. We just returned from 10 days of the most frustrating trip ever! We often read reviews here and #tripadvisor and think "wow there is no way of pleasing some of these people" or "you're on vacation, just enjoy it". However, as long time members who have traveled to a large number of AmResorts, UVC-Unlimited Vacation Club and Hyatt needs to know they've dropped the ball on this one. THE GOOD Resort is beautiful, grounds, pools and restaurants are immaculate, beach is one of the nicest we have been to, rooms are up to normal Secrets style and amenities, great lobby bar atmosphere, staff are very friendly and try hard. That's the good... THE BAD We were assigned a poorly trained, uninterested, borderline rude, UVC rep. We were not provided even one of the benefits as outlined in our Impressions contract. Typically you have to meet with your rep for a few minutes early in your stay and you are provided your resort coupons and/or they review the amenities available as members. Nothing. We questioned her twice and were told "oh we don't do that here". I won't list the benefits of being an Impression member as we all know everyone's contracts vary, however there is a list of 11 different benefits clearly outlined on our contract, that we did not receive, were never offered, or told we couldn't have. Something as simple as hydrotherapy or laundry service. We booked a preferred club ocean view swim out and did not receive an upgraded room, which we ALL know is based on availability, however we were given the poorest location of the category we booked. The room never received one minute of sunshine all day and therefore the pool was freezing! We were traveling with guests who booked a much lower category and they received a 3 category upgrade to the same category we paid for. So those are UVC and Hyatt issues. There is only 4 of the traditional Secrets a la carte Restaurants (Portofino, Seaside, Oceana and El Patio) No Bordeaux. The Market Cafe is the same and actually quite nice. Very good options, especially for lunch. However, the Tierra (South American food) is awful. Again that is subjective as some may like it but it was our worst meal of the 10 days. The Meraki (Asian) was fine but very limited menu compared to any other Secrets. We ate there twice out of lack of options (see below). The second time we ate there, I never received my main entree until 10 minutes after the rest of the table and I had reminded the waiter. The waiter just stared at me as if I hadn't ordered anything even though three of us at the table ordered the same thing. There is a Bordeaux at Breathless and Dreams right next door, but we were not permitted Sip Savor and See despite asking many times. Room Service is terrible and is only available until 11 pm! We don't care for the Espresso coffee in the room so no matter which resort we stay in, we ask for a carafe of coffee, cream and two glasses of orange juice to be put in our Secrets box every morning. Not difficult - a pot of coffee, some cream and orange juice. NOT ONCE in 10 days did they get it right. 3 days, we received two cups of Espresso, 3 days we didn't receive anything at all, 3 days we received a pot of coffee, no cream and no orange juice and on our final day, we gave up. Bar service and alcohol or mix options are terrible. There is no Captain Morgan spiced rum. Fine, so you try their local rum. We ordered Rum and Gingerale - no Gingerale. So we tried Absolut and Grapefruit juice. If you insist in watching the bartender you will ,actually get Absolut or Grey Goose, but if you don't, you'll get garbage gasoline version. You receive grapefruit juice for your first drink and then not again all day because "they are out". You'd think if the whole resort is out everyday before noon, you'd order more. It didn't matter which bar, preferred or not. No juice after your first or second drink. Then they substitute it with something else (vodka and cranberry juice) and say "here, you'll enjoy this instead". I asked for sangria one day and watched the bartender put 5 different kinds of syrup in my glass, then red wine and a splash of sprite. Come on... Evening turn down service is subpar if you even receive it. 6 days into our stay, we were warned there was a group arriving. The resort capacity is approx. 1330 people and a group of 1000 people were arriving over two days. On the day of arrival the main pool was closed to non-conference guests as they set up a banquet style reception for the group around the pool. Three of the al a carte restaurants were closed on the evening the group arrived, leaving the Market cafe, the Tierra (which we hated) and the Meraki where I didn't receive my entree. On the second night, there was no private banquet arranged for the group so they attended the restaurants. At this point they were seating 3 and 4 tables at a time of up to 18 and 20 guests each that were so loud it reduced a beautiful evening dining experience to that of a university cafeteria. The staff were stretched thin running after loud parties that were moving chairs and arranging tables themselves, yelling and making demands on the staff. We asked for butter 3 times to go with the fresh loaf that is delivered at the start of your meal and finally received it after we had completed our entree. The service went drastically downhill for anyone not part of the group. We never saw a waitress around the preferred pool for over two hours and finally started walking to the preferred club to get our own drinks. Also on the second day of the group attendance, all the poolside activities had been cancelled for the non-group guests as the entertainment staff were busy with the group. On the third day, we witnessed upper management training the staff on how to deal with a guest who might possibly enter an area that was being set up specifically for the group - which by the way, meant closing the main pool to anyone not part of the group, and closing another a la carte restaurant. How about not allowing the group to take over the resort and allowing your guests, members or not, access to the areas of the resort they paid for!! We generally tip very well. Everyday we would have to go to the front lobby to ask for change so we had appropriate tip money. There was never any change available. If you want your staff to be tipped, help your guests out and provide change. Which brings me to the staff reward system. Please find another way to reward your staff then by giving them a day off based on the number of trip advisor or facebook mentions they get. If they are doing their job, they will get mentioned. Instead, on our last day, we were approached by a number of staff we had not seen or interacted with at all in 10 days and asked if we could please remember them in our review. The butlers and concierges were constantly bearing the brunt of complaints until about day 5 or 6 we saw a management level staff walking the restaurants asking people "is everything ok? any complaints". When we did start quietly raising these complaints to some of the staff they started describing how good things are at Secrets Cap Cana. Well we didn't book Cap Cana, we booked Tides! If things are so good at Cap Cana then bring their staff in to train these ones and get some management experience from Cap Cana. We were told that management has changed three times since opening a year ago. Get it figured out! We booked 10 days, because it is difficult for us to get direct flights from our home airport. We end up in overnight airport hotels before and after our trip and at least 10 hours of actual travel time. This is 10 days we cannot get back. Come on Secrets, UVC and Hyatt. You've got to get better!
