Nice Place, BUT...
Hello all, First off, i always start by explaining what type of travelers the wife and I are. We have travelled to Mexico many times, and have stayed at all levels of resorts. We are pool people, maybe a beach day in there as well, and generally we do not do tours as we have done most available tours in the past, all in all we generally stay on the resort. its usually about relaxing for us. This particular trip was our Honey Moon. so We thought we would go a bit more "upscale" with the secrets Brand. Pro's: - Excellent Rooms, we opted in for the swim out room which we actually did use this time around. The rooms were so clean, modern, Massive rain style shower. You get a large tv that has chromecast built in, so you can stream your netflix/prime etc to the tv which works great. Wifi is included in the room and works good. Also comes with a fridge that they stock for you daily, 3 beers a time (you can request more). The Beds were very comfy, this is usually where things can go south in Mexico, but I have to say we did not wake up sore any day. I did not see a single bug in the room. Really nice. - The Food. Although lacking in choice, 3 ala carts, a breakfast buffet, a "grill"/lunch spot. All in all pretty solid. The only really issue is there is not much choice. The ala carts are a Mediterranean, a Japanese/sushi and a french/steak house style. The Japanese is fantastic, like rivals some of the restaurants back home. The steak house is good, it has a really unique asthetic (set up to look like a jungle). The Mediterranean (our least fav) had good flavored food, but the room that they sit you in to eat is SO loud you have to yell to talk to anyone, it has stone walls, and just creates noise pollution. - They Did something nice for us for our Honey Moon, Although not when we got there, but when we told them it was our Honey Moon, they Drape a sash across your door saying "Honey Moon". They gave us a bottle of Champaign and a lovely desert. It was a nice touch. - Very Modern and well styled resort, You get the feeling of "high end". Its a nice place. Cons: (For Us) - I don't know how we missed this during the booking process, but the way they photograph this resort on the travel sites, make it seem like its in the jungle away from things. When in truth, its connected to the town of Tulum, with a pretty busy road right Infront of it. Now that's not the end of the world, but you can sometimes hear traffic and smell diesel/gas fumes. This is more of our fault for not realizing it was that close to town, but in the end not a deal breaker for us. - There is No Beach, UNLESS you Travel to the private Beach Club. They have timed "shuttles" to the beach club, there's like 5 a day that go and come back. The beach club is pretty good however, has a pool, lounge area and bars of course. It was a good time going down there and i do recommend checking it out at least once. its about a 10-15 minute drive, the beach seemed pretty clean, with little seaweed and the sand was lovely white fine sand. The only thing i would say is, ALOT of people want to get there and they have limited seating both on the beach and on the truck, sometimes they will light up a second truck, but just get there early. - THIS IS THE MOST CONFUSING RESORT TO NAVIGATE OF ALL TIME. So, its 4 giant circles that have different POI's on each circle and different floors, there is a real lack of signage, and sometimes asking the staff does not help because they don't speak English. Even up until the last day, we were guessing where we were going. - No transport too and from the resort. This is more down to how you book, we booked with expedia and we surprised it did not come with a transfer. Wasn't a deal breaker as we got a taxi service too and from was about $50/cad each way. We flew into the new Tulum Airport, and its a 40min drive to the resort. Most people we talked to did not have a shuttle included, so not sure if they are not doing that out of the new Airport, or what the deal is. We booked with a company we found in the airport called "flex eco taxi", and the price wasn't too bad for round transport. -The Breakfast buffet experience is Awful, I don't know if they are understaffed, or they just don't know how to manage it. Most of the time we end up lining up to be seated for between 10-15 mins + when we can visibly see the restaurant at times was 50% empty, and the girl that was seating people had NO sense of Urgency or hustle seating people 1 at time.....PAINFUL. It was pretty disappointing, knowing that every day, when you go down to breakfast its going to be a wait and a line up, when the place has many empty tables. The food is Good in there, but they tend to never have enough Bacon, 5/7 days they had none when i was in there. - Unless you travel to the beach club, the resort is generally Quiet. Some days we had the pools to ourselves, or there was 3 people in them. I think they use this as an excuse to understaff bars etc, because getting service was tough. Had to grease a few palms to get them motivated enough to come around, but once they do your set. All in All, I would probably go back here. I would not pay full price, and only do it if i could get a deal on it. The rooms were lovely the place is clean, drinks were good and the food is generally good. If you want a resort that you can stroll to the beach, this is not the place for you. If you want to explore Tulum, you can walk into town from the resort or get a taxi. We did do some tours this time, the Mayan ruins/sonote/turtle swim was well worth it for us. I recommend it. its about $250/per person for a full day of activity. hope this helps, cheers,

Wouldn't Recommend
Food was not great, and staff was not professional. I had an awful experience with a resort employee, and it made my experience unenjoyable. Even after speaking with management, I was not happy with how I was treated. I would highly recommend choosing another resort!

Unique All Inclusive
Overall this is a very nice quiet resort. Pros: Unbelievable rooms, very luxurious and comfortable. Resort is quieter with lots of space. Not fighting over chairs. Beach was fantastic with great food and lots of room. It is a different experience having to shuttle to the beach but we knew this before going and did not mind at all. Cons: Do not sign up for the "free coupons" at check- in. This is a pushy scam to sign up for a timeshare presentation. Its not a great first impression when the resort is trying to get more money out of you immediately upon arriving. Food was good overall but the resort could use one more dinner option.

AMAZING experience and Danced the night away
Had an amazing time at secrets Tulum, really enjoyed the environment from the moment I walked in. Greeted with a cold towel for the humid temperature and a glass of champagne! Rooms are phenomenal and great experiences at the resort and offsite at the beach club which had shuttles daily. The dance class with Adela and Aldo was one of the best highlights of the trip. From dancing salsa to marengue to bachata at my request! We had a great time here and would DEFINITELY recommend for a solo trip or couples trip.

Beautiful but impractical, unreliable services, and a little disappointing
We stayed at this property from early to mid December 2024. While the property is stunning, we found that our stay was lack luster and left more to be desired. The rooms and pools are stunning. However, the pools are so cold, even as a Canadian who swims in lakes all summer, it was too cold to go in. Unfortunately we paid more money for the swim out and this was even colder then the pools. With how much you pay to stay here you would think the pools and swim outs would be a comfortable temperature. The next issue I had with this location is that weddings at the resort take away from guests stays. When we were there, there was 4-5 weddings. When weddings would happen, shows that are supposed to take place on the rooftop terrace would be cancelled or moved and they wouldn't update the app to show where the events were moved to. They also have the weddings right in front of the gym and spa, which they will deny guest access to. This was very frustrating as guests who also paid thousands of dollars to be there, we missed out on resort amenities we were told were available because of events we had nothing to do with. This leads me to the next issue which was rain -- when it rains a lot of the activities are just simply cancelled, meaning there's not much to do at the resort. We found events would be cancelled even if it stopped raining hours before the activities we're supposed to take place. We only had about 2 and a half days of sun when we were there so it definitely would have been nice to have activities to turn to. So between the cold pools and random cancellation of activities, there really wasn't much to do at this resort. Next, we had issues with service. We tipped well the entire time we were there (including a large tip for cleaning services the first day) and then for the rest of the week many days our room went without being cleaned or our fridge restocked. Even after calling to request these services or doing it through the app it still wouldn't get done. I wasn't impressed by this at all. Another thing to consider is that the resort is entirely sand. On the preferred side they have wood planks for guests to step on so they don't have to step in the sand with their shoes on but on the non-preferred side there wasn't this luxury which I thought was a really interesting difference. I would like to say a special shout out to Joel, Pool Concierge, it was his first week working at the resort and he was LOVELY. So helpful and always willing to help. I hope he sticks around because he was a great employee from our interactions and what we saw. We have been to another Secrets resort before which we loved, unfortunately the service here was subpar at best and there really wasn't much to do for the reasons stated above. The beach club is beautiful and until the pools warm up I would recommend guests spend most of their time there. We loved Tulum, but until this location makes improvements, we won't be back.
