The hotel is very nice, the new section 3 floors just ipen up. This time next year more floors will be open. Great views. Food ok. We ate out more st local ma and pa restaurants. In the area. Not alot of entertainment. Great sunsets almost every night. Staff are great.

100% Recommend! The food was AMAZING
We would 100% recommend this resort! The food was AMAZING!!!! The resort was quiet and the perfect size. We were shocked at first there wasn’t a buffet for all meals. However, the food was fresh and prepared perfectly for every meal. We actually ended up preferring this style of all inclusive for food.

Check-in issue
I have downgraded my review for one reason. When checking in we were not told or asked about opening an account. As a consequence, despite faithfully adding a tip to every service (primarily restaurants) our tips were not recorded. We were very perturbed when checking out to find out we owed nothing as a consequence. I did tip housekeeping and the snack shop in cash. In almost every other way, we were pleased with our stay and I would probably have given at least a 4 rating. Our suite was great, lots of whale sightings, the food was a cut above the few other all-inclusives we have visited and the staff most kind, which is why they deserved the extra compensation. I do wish the chairs actually on the beach were the same as the lounge chairs around the pool. The chairs on the sand were hard to get in and out of and there weren’t that many. Good location.

A decent experience, but room for improvement
We stayed at Sunset Plaza for a week at the end of Jan. 2025. This was our ninth trip to Mexico, almost all being at all-inclusives. Sunset Plaza was slightly above average, but not spectacular. In typical online review fashion, a "pro/con list" will follow: Pros: Really attentive staff: from check-in, to pool service, and restaurants Location is great - not far from the airport and marina, and an affordable taxi/Uber to the malecon and romantic zone. Every day I could see whales surfacing in the bay from our balcony! Grounds were exceptionally well maintained and bathroom areas and pools always clean For an all-inclusive, wide variety of alcohol available, including a lot of more expensive options (especially tequilas) Wide variety of food options, including a 24 hour room service Daily housekeeping that kept our room looking great and spotless Great water pressure in our shower and plenty of hot water Cons: The resort is apparently in the middle of a major renovation - with over half of one of the towers gutted/vacant. We realize this is a part of life and keeping things updated, but took away from the aesthetic. It also looks like this is far from being complete. Luckily, construction noise was fairly minimal. Nightly entertainment is something we usually expect at an all-inclusive. This was not the case at Sunset Plaza. They did have some dancing on their "Mexican theme" night but that was all we could remember. The food was for the most part delicious, but there appeared to be a struggle to keep things warm. This was especially evident on the Mexican theme night (buffet style) where most food ranged from cool to room temperature. There is also a breakfast buffet at what is, at night time, their "fancy restaurant", but this isn't really advertised and was somewhat confusing. Cleary outdated room. Our room was on the sixth floor. There was some obvious patchwork to various places of drywall/plaster in both the bathroom and main room. There was also a severe lack of outlets. Good luck charging multiple phones or devices at the same time. I also have a CPAP, so this made things even more challenging at night. Lighting was also less than ideal. And just some random notes from our (couple in mid 30s) perspective: Very relaxed vibe: Clientele definitely seemed on the older side (retired or 50+). Most definitely not a party resort. Things here are pretty much dead by 9 or 10pm. We get that Puerto Vallarta is most definitely NOT Cancun. Just an observation. There is no gift shop or convenience style store on premises. Not a huge loss, since these places are usually super over-priced anyway. There is a small "gym" that has a modest variety of cardio and some weight lifting options. Lastly, I want to reiterate the service from the great staff at Sunset Plaza. They truly made our visit better. Our notable encounters include Mario (butler), Gabriel and Jorge (pool service), Jose (lobby bar), and Raul (entertainment). Raul...your Mexican version of blackjack was something I've never seen before but left us hurting from laughing so much.

Good try but needs to fix some quirks
Sunset Plaza Oct 5 -12, 2024 Puerto Vallarta A week that started off not so great and had its ups and downs. Arrived via car to resort and no bellmen, no one around. Parked car , got out and then a bell man arrived. Odd, but he arrived and took my luggage. Parking is down a small hill and around the bend but they will park your car if desired. Check in was slow and not exceptionally friendly. We booked a two bedroom. We had a 2 bedroom lock off on third floor. Wish it had been a higher floor. The unit is large. You enter thru kitchen which is stocked well. The living room is before a large balcony. The master bedroom off to the right, large in size. The side tables oddly are far too low for the bed. The bathroom off master bedroom is very large with a shower, two sinks and a large walk in closet and toilet. There is also a jacuzzi in there, kind of a dark space, despite numerous lights. The other bedroom is like a studio so fully equipped with a mini frig., coffee maker, 2 beds and shower. Sadly the shower was a trickle of water only! Literally run thru the raindrops. There is a third bathroom off the main living room with a shower thankfully. The decor of the unit is bland. Poor decorating, pictures randomly placed, no pretty bed linens, everything worked except that shower and some plugs, but no raves. Light switches were everywhere yet it was a dark unit and you had to be a genius to figure out what switches worked for what, no rhyme or reason. The grounds are small for the number of rooms but they do have an adults only small pool. We did not do the AI but found the food by the pool decent and at the specialty restaurants reasonable and good with nice atmosphere. The waiters were very good in the restaurants. By the pool was an issue at first getting service at all, why who knows. I was a female alone for a few days and not on AI, so was that a factor hard to know?. I liked the resort despite it needing some decent decor and the one bathroom shower being useless. We will give it another try and hope for an even better experience. Overall a good choice but I cannot imagine it in high season for loungers and such.
