Apr 19, 2025Our Memorable Vacation
We are owners at Sunset Plaza. We own a 2 bedroom unit. We chose April to celebrate our Anniversary, staying for 2 weeks in a one bedroom unit. My husband had a "medical episode" our first week of vacation and we had to fly back home for his follow-up treatment since after being treated in the ER, we felt we needed to be home where our insurance would cover all charges up-front, the Mexico providers require payment up front. It was a scary situation. We inquired to the Club if we could have a partial refund credit of our points since we weren't staying the full 2 weeks. The response was "sorry, it's not the Club's policy." No empathy or compassion to our situation. We love and enjoy our timeshare purchase but this situation has left an unpleasant experience. I'm writing this review not just for us but for anyone who chooses to vacation at Sunset and encounter an emergency situation that would require an immediate return back to their home, leaving behind their extra vacation time. I'm sure our unit week was not left empty after we checked out. It's all about money$$$$

A great, smaller resort closer to all the action.
There is lots to like about this resort. It's a long walk or a very short cab ride if you want to venture into downtown PV. Because it's a smaller resort the staff are more attentive and you rarely have to wait service. The food also is pretty good and the resort is right on the beach and nice and quiet at night. The only con was there are no self serve food options other than the buffet breakfast. So for us traveling with an infant, it was a bit inconvenient to have to go to a restaurant for dinner or wait by the pool to get some food for lunch. There is a room service but it's beer limited. There are 2 restaurants, both are a la carte, but they do rotate menus so you're not getting the same thing every night.

The staff make the experience
Overall a pleasant stay, with a few caveats and things to know: The pros: -By far, the staff. The staff throughout this facility went above and beyond. They were helpful and kind and accommodating. Highlights were poolside service with Jorge and Alberto. -the view: all of the rooms have a stunning view, but the higher the floor, the better the view. There are current renovations happening on one side of the tower, and it looks like plunge pools or hot tubs are being installed on some balconies, so that might be an option for the future. -the spa: my friend and I had lovely massages (very much appreciated the skill of my masseuse, Selene) -room was comfortable -Close to airport, all inclusive The cons: -Food is very mediocre. Not a single meal was memorable and some were disappointing. -People wake up early to “reserve” loungers. This is a huge pet peeve of mine and I don’t understand why resorts don’t enforce the “no reserving” policy. It takes a ton of the relaxation out of things to have to aggressively stake out a spot. The ratio of rooms to loungers seems to be inadequate -It’s noisy. Loud music, flashing lights at night, noise from neighboring properties on both sides, although things do tend to shut down at 10 or 11 pm. Overall it would be an average resort experience were it not for the staff, who work extra hard to make it special. I hope the management of this establishment know what an amazing team they have working there.

Our family had the greatest time at Sunset Plaza Beach Resort and Spa. The food was amazing and the staff were like family. Cannot wait for our family of 10 to return next year. It was one of our best vacations yet!!! Every room has a view of the beautiful ocean, so nice to be able to watch the sunset every night at 7:15!!!!

Great Resort!
Such a great resort! I would highly recommend and very affordable. The Mexican Festa Night is an all time fave!! And the ceviche and shrimp tacos for lunch were delicious. I always asked for hot sauce, as the food needed some extra spice. We found the coffee to be a bit weak, but I always requested for a “double cappuccino” from the machine in the am! Hector and Rolando offered exceptional service and were so friendly!! Every morning at 7am you need to book at Luciano’s for dinner, and we ate her almost every night. The experience really makes the trip and the food is delicious, we always tried an appetizer or salad with or meal. The hotel staff offered change for larger bills if needed, around the noon hour and provided champagne when you arrived! The hot tubs were cooler than expected and close at 9. I did leave a review that they should turn up the heat for these, so hopefully they do!! I would bring definitely bring your own pillow if you have space, and also some tums or rolaids, as my husband and I had heart burn almost every night! :( We found the night life is to be pretty quiet around the resort, but you can always go out and explore if you want something more lively! Ladies check out the water aerobics one day if you can, it was fun!
