Good time
David on the beach is excellent, very attentive and friendly. Brittney (hostess at the beach) was working her TAIL off the entire time, protect her at all costs! Staff has been nothing but amazing, the heartbeat of this hotel (esp right now). I do agree with another review… I don’t think the hotel is quite ready to be opened. Advertising on instagram (it’s pushed pretty hard) isn’t honest about half the hotel being shut down and only one pool being accessible. I wouldn’t say this would completely deter me from staying at the Don again, just wish I would have known up front. I do think given the lack of amenities, the room prices should reflect as such. Little bit steep for a half-hotel. I can tell that the folks working on the scaffoldings are doing everything they can to be expeditious in the repairs though. They were very busy during our stay. I think the goal for end of July for a full reopening might be attainable based off of that.

Loved for so many years, disappointed this visit
I’ve been coming to this hotel since 1975 as a single young woman and eventually with my husband. Over the 50 years of multiple visits, getting married on the beach at the Don Cesar and coming back for our 1st, 5th and 10th anniversaries, we’ve had wonderful experiences. The hotel is iconic and beautiful and service is top notch. We recently came back to this hotel to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We stayed in a very clean luxury king room, which was a little more spacious than previous visits, but it had a very small bathroom where only one person could get ready at a time. The hotel staff recognized our anniversary by gifting us a bottle of their bubbly, a box of four chocolates and a personalized card. How sweet! They also greeted every guest with a glass of bubbly upon checking in at the front desk. The hotel reopened the week before our arrival after devastating back-to-back hurricanes last fall. A lot of the resort was not fully functional… a pool was closed, the lower level was completely shut off, the restaurant we had where we had our wedding dinner was closed. The negatives that made this visit very disappointing to us…we were disappointed we couldn’t have our anniversary dinner in the restaurant we had our wedding dinner; we never got a chair at the pool as it was overcrowded; the water pressure in our shower was nonexistent and the hotel shut the water off for six hours from midnight to 6am; the carpets in some areas were dirty as was elevator C, plus that elevator was rickety and the door slammed each time. Every time we rode it, everybody on the elevator was commenting on how bad it was. Having alerted management how disappointed we were, a manager personally reached out with a phone call to discuss. That’s great customer service, plus she wanted to do something to make it right for us. Every staff member that we encountered during our stay was 100% friendly and engaging. That has never changed over the course of 50 years. That being said, unfortunately we left the Don Cesar disappointed. Luckily, we headed to Longboat Key and the hotel we’re staying at is certainly making up for the disappointing start to our anniversary trip.

A Great Afternoon in the Sun at the Pink Palace
We went to the beach area and enjoyed wonderful service from Belle! She set up our beach chairs, our towels and our umbrella and made us feel like she only cared about us! She provided excellent service. I love the Don! We will continue to enjoy the sun in this amazing hotel.

Don Cesar is not ready to be open, sadly.
Not ready to be open after the hurricane IMO. We had a long weekend stay (our second stay) at the Don Cesar and although they are trying to accommodate their guests while not being fully functioning, and with lots of current construction taking place beginning in the 7am hour, they are not up to par unfortunately. Due to the wind, we weren't able to use umbrellas at all during our stay and it was very sunny and hot. The staff says that the company that runs their umbrellas deemed the winds too much for them to be up (that includes the tiny pool area also). Even with sunscreen, we all got a little burned. They also ran out of beach towels, also claiming the company that cleans their towels to be at fault. That became a recurring excuse. We did not get replacement towels in our hotel room until we called down and they wouldn't only give one the first time we called. Only one pool is open and it is very small. There is no pool bar open and although the servers are clearly working hard, there aren't enough to accommodate the guests. The menu is very limited. Only one restaurant is open. There's no where to purchase a banana, an apple or a healthy snack during the day, no kind of sundry shop is open. The front desk staff was exceptional, as was Bell on the beach. The beach servers work hard in the hear but it takes a long time to get drinks because they need more staff on the beach. The concierge was rude the two times we asked for information about the area restaurants and downtown. He basically handed me 4 printed handouts to look it up myself. No personal recommendations (or smiles) were offered. I think we will be trying another hotel next time we come to St. Pete. :(

Will be back!
My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary and we had the BEST weekend! All the staff was amazing! Bell was so helpful and made our time on the beach great! Even though they are still under construction that didn’t mess up our weekend. We enjoyed it and will be back again!
