Beautiful resort, bucket list place for sure. Food and select non-Polynesian staff service should be better
As many have described here, this place is well appointed and luxurious and we were happy to be in one of the biggest villas with 2 bedrooms and our private pool. Yes, it is supposedly older than other choices, but it is nicely maintained and the local Polynesian staff (like Vaite and her concierge colleagues) were extremely helpful and courteous. The reason for my 4 stars (could have been 3 too), instead of 5, is two reasons: 1) The food and drinks were hit or miss, depending on where you were eating or who was preparing it that day. One day the cocktails tasted good with alcohol, other times it was just juice with no taste of alcohol (kind of those scammy Mexican all-inclusive resorts). There is only one choice for lunch: the Aparima place, which had the same menu everyday and we pretty much tried every possible option. One or two things were fine, while several other items were just badly cooked or had very little flavor. For dinner, it seems like it kept getting better for us. First we tried the Italian place (Ferniente), which was just ok, the next time we tried Asian at Bamboo, which was better and then we did French at Lagoon, and that was good. Interesting to note that there was a gnocchi dish at the French restaurant that was much better than the Italian restaurant - go figure. For a St. Regis caliber resort, I expected top notch quality and flavor and not too watered down drinks. 2) As I said the Polynesian staff were really nice and we felt seen and cared for. However, as you can expect, there were many from other places like France too and while most were equally helpful and courteous, I didn’t really care for some of the white shirt managers like Thomas, who must have ignored us every day, including the time we were waiting for our boat ride to the airport. He personally escorted and provided water to every other couple, except us. Apparently being Bonvoy Platinum or spending more money than almost any other family wasn’t enough for them to just acknowledge the brown-skinned people.

Beyond expectations
St. Regis Bora Bora St. Regis is wonderful but a little older with a little more wear and tear. But their service is way above expectations. The rooms are much larger. Honeymoon and Birthday Bora Bora We booked our trip through the "Pacific for Less to Bora Bora" French Polynesia. We contacted Pacific for Less. Ms. Claudia immediately sprang into action. She was amazing and if there was ever a Wonder Woman of the Travel agent business it has to be her. In my opinion, this wonderful vacation would not have been as enjoyable or as memorable if we had used an internet based travel service. I would not go anywhere else for travel arrangements or advice except to Pacific for Less. Sincerely, Nick and Yuhong

Rating: 5 stars… but with a gentle stretch.
Let’s be honest it’s more like a solid 4.5. But the local staff working here absolutely earned that extra half star (and maybe a bonus one just for being amazing). We stayed for 10 days, which gave us enough time to fully soak in the hotel’s vibe the good, the great, and the slightly questionable. Let’s start with the good: - The bed was dangerously comfortable like “Oops, I just slept through paradise again” kind of comfortable. The view each morning? Unreal. I kept waking up wondering if I had been accidentally teleported into a screensaver. - Housekeeping staff were on point. Always polite, always smiling, always five-star level. - The beach staff were amazing. They worked hard and were always kind and welcoming. No request was ever a problem, and they made everything feel easy and relaxed. It’s not often you see people so dedicated while still being so friendly. Honestly, some of the kindest and hardest-working people we’ve met. - The beachside restaurant staff were excellent—clearly experienced and great at what they do. They were friendly, professional, and always made us feel welcome. - Our butler Josh was good. He came off a little serious at first and of course very professional, but once he got to know us, he turned out to be a solid guy: funny, cool, and easy to be around. On his days off, we were looked after by two very charming and attractive girls who brought a whole different kind of sunshine. Let’s just say, the butler service here isn’t just about being helpful and organized they’re also beautiful people who smile and start your day off right. And honestly, we’re 100% here for it. - Food across the restaurants was great overall. Our only culinary “meh” was the Italian restaurant no seafood, just pasta with shrimp, which felt a bit… limited. But breakfast in the main restaurant? Excellent. Lunch? Great. Dinner? Also great and don’t skip Jean-Georges refined flavors, solid wine, and staff so polite I almost felt underdressed emotionally. Now for the “quirks” (because calling them “issues” feels rude): - The hotel is over 20 years old, and while the bungalows are well maintained and in good condition, you can still feel the age in certain areas. Some parts could benefit from a bit of updating to match the otherwise high standards. - The bathroom plumbing showed a bit of it’s age after a shower, the water took its time draining, and there was a brief moment when the air wasn’t quite as fresh as the ocean breeze outside. - The adults-only pool felt oddly irrelevant hidden away with no view and zero vibe. Honestly, turn it into a kids’ pool or a giant bathtub for iguanas either would get more use ;) Some tips: - Highly recommend the rum and wine tasting classes! Both were led by a wildly charismatic French sommelier who’s been in the game for over 20 years. - The Flower Crown Weaving and Motu Iti activities were adorable (and Instagram gold). - Everything the hotel organizes classes, events, excursions is done with class and charm. - If you’re up for a little culinary field trip, try La Villa Mahana. It’s unique, intimate, and worth the adventure. - Also, doing absolutely nothing on the beach? A+ activity. No regrets. Final Take: The hotel delivers a high-end experience with a few rough edges. Some areas could use a refresh, but the overall vibe is relaxed and welcoming. What really stands out is the staff they’re the reason the stay feels special. It’s not flawless, but it’s memorable, and absolutely worth it.

Great 4 star place - not 5 star level though
Great hotel but not as great as I was expecting. Many people write about how it's the best in the world - it's not. Beautiful area but older resort area and def not on par with Four Seasons at other locations (I would imagine 4S here is better as well). Stayed in OWB lagoon view - large and nice but a bit dated and could use some updating. Nice outdoor deck with table and easy to jump off. Note - our bungalow, and most others, had floaties in the outdoor rack - hard to use these most of the time from the OWB since there's a swell and even when tied up it'll push you - o ften under the bungalows. I wouldn't bother bringing your own - way too much is made of this. Just use the ones they have if convenient and swell and wind is compatible. Could bring some rope to tie off I guess. Shower is super old type shower with low pressure and no wall - it's fine but you aren't going to get idea of super 5star luxury from the room. They did give nice little extras - desert one day, wine one day and some snacks. a/c was good but a ceiling fan would have been even nicer. Fitness Center is lacking - pretty small for such a huge resort. Bikes very so-so, not peloton, not much room for separate work outs. It's fine but below what you would expect at this cost. There is a tennis court in pretty poor shape but never saw it used. No shade. Very limited classes - no yoga at all. They have a meditation class. Restaurants - thought most were just ok - this is biggest area that could use improvement. Spending a lot of money on a bucket list vacation and food doesn't fit the bill. Breakfast was pretty good. Pool - there will be kids running around. Pool itself is fine, no hot tubs, swim up bar nice but often lacking in service - can take 10 minutes to find a server. Very limited chairs around the pool area. There is an adult pool located by the OWBs but it's pretty small with 5 private sitting areas. They advertise service available by phone but they charge you the room service fee to delivery anything - they could do better here. This was only area we ever really saw any bugs. No towels here either at adult pool so bring your own from the beach or regular pool (short bike ride away). WIFI is pretty frustrating - kicks you off all the time. Has a known problem with iphones which makes it more difficult. You can borrow snorkel equipment and take it back to your room and swim off the OWB. No real need for fins here at all.
- AdvisoryPrices are based on single or double occupancy. You will incur additional charges at the time of check-in for additional room occupants. The Front Desk will verify the age of the guest to determine whether the extra fee would apply.
