Total Relaxation
What a beautiful resort. It’s made up of two adjoining towers. One is directly across the street from the beach, and the other one is behind it. We were in the second one. The Paoakalani Tower. We were on the 27th floor. As stunning as the view of Diamond Head was, I wish we were on the other side of the hotel with a view of the sunset. But I cant complain. We often went to the ‘Queensbreak’ pool grill which had a great view of the sunset. They also had a singer who played the guitar there every night. In fact, they also had a singer who played the guitar in the lobby every night as well. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The lobby is open air and huge with tons of comfortable places to sit. There’s one Starbucks inside the hotel and one on the exterior. There are two ABC stores inside the hotel. There’s an Enterprise inside the hotel (but parking is $55 per day). There’s an adult pool and a kids pool. They have beach chairs and boogie boards you can borrow for free. The beach is across the street. There’s a little ukulele store inside the resort that offers free lessons. There’s an LEI making class. The hotel has a luau (for a fee). The beach is really shallow and the water is so clear. Its enclosed by a barrier that keeps the water pretty calm, and keeps big fish out. I felt really safe floating around. Waikiki is a bustling city. I felt safe walking around even at night. We took the bus a few times. It was easy to navigate. $3 per person, per ride. We also rented a 2 person motorbike and drove around Diamond Head. I felt very secure riding on the back. There’s a place on Lemon Road (kind of across the street from the hotel) that rents out scooters ($42 for the day) and motorbikes. TIP: if you reserve a rental car, be prepared to wait an hour in line to pick it up. Doesnt matter which location you reserve it. Some of our favourite excursions: - the Polynesian Cultural Center ($95 entrance fee per person. Its worth it) - the North Shore. Specifically Shark’s Cove, the surfing town of Haleiwa, Waimea Bay Beach, Banzai Pipeline - the Dole Plantation (awesome gift shop. Yummy Dole Whip) - Rock-A-Hula luau - free hula show on Waikiki beach - Kuoloa Ranch - driving around Diamond Head There’s so much to see and do in Oahu.

Wonderful first time to Waikiki
We had a great stay. Every employee we encountered was kind and polite. Magda our housekeeper greeted us each morning with a smile-and she did a wonderful job. Rooms and other guest areas were very clean and well cared for. We were always able to get chairs at the pool, and servers came by frequently. Food and drinks at the pool were very good. We really liked the location at far end of waikiki- beach was calm and far enough away from the busy center. Our room was a family junior suite- had 4 beds (2queen,2 twins)which was perfect. There was some street noise at times. We would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting waikiki! Thank you for a lovely stay.

I'll be staying elsewhere
The staff were friendly and we got checked in easily. No map of the hotel was given so we had no idea where anything was. There were “interactive directories” that you could use but it’s not very convenient. They also didn’t inform me that you need to use the key card to get the elevator to go above the 3rd floor. There were small signs in the elevator, but a heads up would have been nice. There was no bag for the ice bucket (also had to search for the ice machine) but the rest of the room seemed fine. The real issue was the notice that the water would be shut off from 9 am until 4 pm for two days of our stay due to an emergency. Okay, fine. We’ll be out all day anyway. Fast forward to 6 pm and there’s a note saying that something broke during maintenance and the water has been shut off. Nothing about when it might be restored, just a “Mahalo for your patience” and to come to the front desk for keys to rooms you can use to shower or for the toilet. So I get to wander all over to pee and share a shower with random strangers? I understand that emergencies happen, but this was absurd. I visited the front desk and received 3 different options, 2 of which were at least on our floor. Thankfully, by the time we returned from dinner at 8 pm the water had been restored. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the staff I interacted with were all friendly, and they got our linens changed out quickly when I realized they were feathers and I informed them that I have an allergy. Breakfast buffet is overpriced. Go to Dukes Waikiki.

Basic suite, slow service, and expensive fees
I’m a platinum rewards member and used a suite night upgrade. I got a junior suite which was spacious and had two balconies with nice ocean views however the room was super awkward with the tv mounted to a side wall with no swivel not facing the bed which made it impossible to watch comfortably. There was a tiny firm couch you could watch it from. Nothing special about the bathroom either just an extra space with another sink. Check in was painfully slow and strictly not until 3pm. Uncle is too old and fragile to be checking in guests, he asked us to write the room number down because he couldn’t press down hard enough on the pen to write. Then he accidentally threw our room cards in the trash and had to start all over so we didn’t get to our room until 3:30. He didn’t explain where the room was or any amenities. There is no Kama’aina discount on the resort fee or the parking fee so even though I paid with points It was still over $100 to stay one night. They only gave us 2pm check out instead of 4pm. I’d rather use my points at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani where they give Kama’aina discounts and generous check in/out times. Also sunscreen all over the leatherette bench in front of the bed was gross.
