Like staying inside a botanical gardens!!

My family spent 8 days at Xolumado Inspiration Village and we would recommend it to anyone who loves nature and outdoors. It was very peaceful and quiet. We loved all the beautiful flowers and plants. We loved the unique animals, insects, and birds that were all around. There were many lovely garden paths to wander around on. The rooms were in small bungalows. Our room was very nice. It was clean and well-organized. I liked that the bathroom was in a separate area and the shower and toilet were separated too. This allowed my family to all use the bathroom at the same time without being crammed in. The staff were excellent and always willing to help. We did a lot of walking to get to the amenities at the adjacent resort, Generations Riviera Maya, which is about 1/2 mile away. There were shuttles available all the time and we could always ask for a ride if we didn't want to walk. The staff was quick to help if you needed anything. We could always call the concierge and get anything we needed, day or night. The restaurant and bar staff were excellent. We have been to Azul Beach Riviera Maya and El Dorado Royale before. We were happy to find that the staff and accommodations at Xolumado are of the same excellent standards as the other Karisma Mexico properties we have stayed at in the past. I don't recommend this resort if you don't like bugs or want to be on the beach or have kids that need lots of activities. If you prefer quiet and nature and lovely gardens, then this place is it!! I would definitely come back to Xolumado and bring my friends!

    unique getaway

Recently spent 10 days at Xolumado. The bungalow we had was very comfortable. There were a few glitches such as a few ants to deal with, a safe that had to be worked on twice and mini frig not getting restocked daily. None of these were too concerning and the staff was awesome, as we have experienced in the past at Karisma properties. Xolumado is really unique, eclectic and VERY quiet, but not fully up and running yet. The bar and restaurant are not yet open, so much time is spent at Generations and El Dorado Royale, which is fine. The golf cart shuttles take you wherever you want to go on the property. We stayed at Royale in January and it was fun to run into familiar staff that were there a few months previous. I understand that at some point guests at Xolumado will limited to the restaurants at Generations without paying additional fees. Currently everything is available at all facilities including Royale and Casitas. All of the restaurants are very good and we liked Cocotal for breakfast. I highly recommend getting the special dinner at Rincon, called the "Frida", if you like duck and mole. It is fabulous. The staff is first rate and I want to give a shout out to May at Tucanes pool bar at Royale. He was extra thoughtful and did a masterful job of handling a drunk and obnoxious couple that seemingly just had to be the center of attention at an otherwise quiet pool. Also I want to commend Eddie and the staff that put on the cooking classes. I managed to make it to three of them and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This trip we only left the property once to go to the nearby Cirque Du Soleil show. I highly recommend it.] If you are looking for a quiet quirky place to stay, check out Xolumado village. With its mix of colors, buddhas, and Hindu statues coupled with meditation music going softly all day, it is definitely unique.

Not fully open, however beautiful!! An honest review

It was really hard to find information on this resort prior to travel, so I will sum it up for you with pros and cons. That said, the resort is still not officially open, so there was no bar, and no restaurant on site. You get full access to Generations which is just 1 minute by shuttle away. Traveled as two couples,so we had the connecting rooms. Adults were also allowed access to Royale- which is also top notch. PROS: No armbands at this resort Beautiful, clean spacious rooms Air conditioner is amazing Large, powerful fan in the room Room amenities are great (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, gel, cap, vanity set, shoe shine, face clothes, plush large towels, hair dryer, bathrobes, Netflix on large TV, international calling) Small mini fridge that had a mixture of Coke/Sprite/beer, pretzels/chips Coffee maker- single serve, with tea also Beds and pillows are fabulous Grounds of property are very nice, peaceful with tranquil music playing Grounds well manicured and laid out nicely (if a bit confusing) Secure, with gate and gate attendant Connecting room is nice, with a small patio area and hammocks, and seating area Pool is nice, no swim up but in middle of resort and easy to access Shuttle service between resort and Generations is quick, easy to use and staff are very friendly Not overly developed property so there is more wildlife- like spider monkeys, lizards (not only iguanas), and cats 30 minutes from airport CONS: Can hear everything through the connecting walls No check in on property (maybe will be later) Not open so no food or alcohol available what so ever at this time No swim up bar (even when it will be open fully) Gas leaf blower used- not really suitable in tranquil environment It is tropical (so beautiful and a pro!!) however bugs (mosquitos) are abundant and include not often seen scorpions and large ants Room service plates not picked up for 3 days and stayed outside on table (not sure how this happened because not normal for Karisma staff or quality) If the air conditioner is off, the room has a bit of sewer smell (possibly from the mangrove marsh in the area No fans for ventilation in the bathroom area- toilet or shower (both are issues) Possible mobility issue for the bathroom- as you need to step over a ledge to get to the toilet Bathrooms in public area have extremely small stalls (mostly on this resort, some at Generations) Layout of the pool is a little strange- with no clear walk around path We did used Generations a lot, and again was an amazing Karisma experience. The Indian was amazing, breakfast always fresh and plentiful. The food was always fresh and clean. The menus are varied, and of the highest quality. Dessert is excellent at every restaurant. The alcohol is all top shelf, and plentiful. There are beach beds lining the beach and always available. In front of the beach beds are sun loungers with optional umbrellas. There are little shelves located through out the resort that have book exchanges, and left over sunblock (in case you need a bit more). Shout out to our shuttle drivers- Toni, and Julian, Our Exotic travelers check in with Vanessa, Theresa in the Exotic office, Jesus (and other fabulous staff) in the butlers lounge at the the back of the property. Bar staff on the beach are top notch, Indian restaurant staff, Juan the server in the Mexiican restaurant, as wellare all the Market staff are all beyond words! Would love to give this property a 5 star when fully operational and all the kinks smoothed out. NOTE- this property would be the IDEAL location for a weddings or large groups- where everyone stays close by and there are not a lot of 'resort' noise going on. (It would be even better if they leave the Generations access...but I do't know if that is the plan.) Although the list of cons looks large, none of these listed items would stop us from recommending this resort. It is mostly for the resort- for improvements. Had a great time!!!

    Loved the place

I really enjoyed my stay, The staff was top notch. The grounds were really cool it’s in the jungle so if you are scared of bugs I don’t suggest staying here. The bugs aren’t bad but you will see a occasional spider or ants, but that’s part of the jungle experience and what makes this place special. Also in the morning and night there are bats flying around. I would have given it 5 stars but I can see a problem with noise from the rooms next door. When the person in the room next door sneezed it sounded like they were in my room.

    Just OK

Let me start by saying I am giving Xolumado 3 stars based off my recent stay. I feel with some tweaks it would warrant more stars in the future. My husband and I decided last minute to take a quick weekend trip to Riviera Maya. We were pretty excited when we saw that Karisma had a new hotel joining their portfolio. We have stayed at many of their resorts in the past. Xolumado is like no other Karisma resort in the fact that is in the jungle and is on the property once occupied by the famous musician Juan Gabriel. If you are not familiar with Juan Gabriel, he was essentially the Mexican version of Liberace. The property is eccentric and beautiful mixing many different cultural idols in between the casitas and lush jungle. When trying to find information on Xolumado it is rather limited to a video that leads you to believe the entire place is open with one restaurant, one bar, a spa, and a fitness center. Unfortunately, during our stay none of those amenities were open on the property. The first two nights we were the only guest, which made it very private and exclusive feeling, but once the entire property is open that will most likely change. We booked a king bed casita, and were given a double bed standard room that had an adjoining door to the room next to us. The rooms were very plain, lacking the richness and quality that you expect from Karisma. The first night there were giant ants in the room piling in under the door from the adjoining room. A few bugs I can handle, but these were not sugar ants. They were very large and crawling everywhere including the bed. There were also small spiders on the ceilings everywhere. Yes, we were in the jungle, but it was too much. At midnight we were moved to another room which only had small ants and a few giant spiders. After killing the spiders my husband went to sleep and I spent the night mostly awake. The last night there was a couple staying in the room next to us. They were very quiet, but you could hear everything. If you are there as a group then most would not find these rooms bothersome. Since we were having a romantic getaway, double beds, and adjoining rooms to people we did not know wasn’t really the atmosphere we were seeking. We did order room service twice. Since there are no menus we just asked for what we wanted, and it was delivered which was very nice. The pool on the property is very serene and everyone working there was amazing and friendly. The good part about this property is that is located behind the Generations and El Dorado Resorts and we were given access to both properties and their wonderful restaurants, pools, bars, beaches, and spas. We spent most of our time at El Dorado. Xolumado provides golf cart service to anywhere you want to go. We walked most of the time, but they were very prompt and always happy to give you a ride. We probably would not stay here again, or would at least give it awhile to work out the kinks. I would recommend Xolumado for a large wedding or retreat since you can book the entire property.
