    Alright but..(full review)

Okay so my mom and I went last year in August but I forgot to write a review till now lol. We decided to go to Bahia principe Punta Cana because a couple years ago we went to Mexico using Punta Cana and we loved it. ARRIVALL: We arrived around 4 and we waited for around 20-35 mins. It was really hot but the lobby had water and juice and staff was handing out drinks. Staff at check in were pretty nice. However there was a slight language barrier with most of the staff since we don't speak Spanish. ROOM: Like many have said, the room was pretty old and outdated. TV was alright but again all the channels were in Spanish. Bed was actually pretty comfortable. Bathroom was the nicest part of the room for me because of the nice shower/bathtub. However the soap and shampooing was empty and we had to ask room service multiple times to refill it and eventually had to call the front desk to get it refilled. The fridge was also good, nice drinks selections. There was a couch and it was pretty comfy too. The balcony wasn't the best though. Had 2 pretty cheep looking palastic chairs and a table. We just used it to dry our swimwear. ROOM SERVICE: Most of the staff and room service were very sweet! Always saying hello and they were very appreciative of the tips. They restocked the drinks with us telling them, made the beds really good and replaced towels when asked. Did their jobs pretty well. Only bad thing was the soap as I have mentioned before. FOOD: Food was alright. Some good things and some bad things. My favorite part was the desserts. Cakes were really soft and sweet. And the buffet was beautiful. There was food options at the beach too however we didn't try the food there. BEACH: Beach was nice, we went there twice. Pretty fun as they were a volleyball game, guys walking around selling merchandise and people with parrots. POOL: Pool was great. Probably my favorite part! Most of the time the music wasn't great but when the music was good, it was amazing. There's also a bar in the middle of the pool which was perfect. Pool was sometimes dirty though. ENTERTAINMENT: The entertainment was amazing! Each night was something different. The lights, dancing, ect was perfect. Some upbeat performces and some emotional ones. Most of the time the entertainment was in the theater but on some nights it was in the open area near the lobby where it was a band or singer or acrobatics. Some nights, people were dancing with the performers. There's was also a circus night. MOSQUITOS: Mosquitos were everywhere!!! Just like a lot of people said, they were in the room, the buffet, the pool, lobby just everywhere! We left with hundreds of bites. This resort is MASSIVE! we got lost the first 2 nights. Overall, it was alright, but we won't be coming back. We will definitely go to Mexico next time.

    Disappointed

We almost changed resorts before our trip because of the negative reviews, and we absolutely should have. Positive is buffet was satisfactory and restaurants were good. Here we go with negatives... Just as many mosquitos in our room as outside, I'm covered in bites even when using bug repellant. Our room and resort is old and tired. Entertainment is poor, we wasted money in the casino as our evening entertainment . 10 times more people at the resort than there is loungers at the beach and pools. Even if you find one, they're packed together like sardines. Housekeeping didn't put water in our room for 2 days in a row. The bed didn't have a blanket, only a sheet on it. We wouldn't go back for free, and may avoid Dominican altogether just to be safe.

    Beware mosques

We decided to stay at the Bahia principle, Grand, as it looked beautiful. On arrival and my husband and I got such a shock. While checking in, I saw hundreds of these little black flies all over. I soon found out they weren't flies but mosques. All the other guests checked in where slapping, waving their arms to try and get these mosques away but to no avail. As soon as the darkness came, the mosques were at there worse. I have been to Mexico, Cuba, and we have not had any issues regarding mosques but this hotel. Further in our stay, we found that the hotel inside their grounds has like a swamp of what they took care of (mangrove). I have seen guests covered in bites and also blisters of what these mosques have left. I have to say if it hadn't been for these mosques, the hotel would have been a good resort for all ages. We could not go out after the sun went down to see any entertainment as we would have been bitten terribly. My husband and I have been bitten everywhere, and I am on antibiotics now. Nothing helped with regard to all kinds of mosque sprays, etc. I never write bad reveiws but on this occasion I had too. If you still decide to go to this hotel, please take all cautions

    Eh

The food was just really bad. It all just tasted horrible and I hate to sound mean but we ate pizza the whole week cause it was the only thing we could bare. The beach was pretty but OVERLOADED with people trying to sell you stuff and coming up to you every minute. It was insane. Everything else was fantastic.

more of a resort for mosquitoes than humans

First time visiting and wouldn’t visit again. Crazy amount of mosquitoes and resort seems to not do anything about it. No fumigating nothing. They just sell 1 bottle of “OFF” brand spray for $28USD. Food was nothing crazy, I’d give the buffet a 5/10. Buffet restaurant had a funny smell when you enter aswell. A la cartes make up for the trashy buffet food but the mosquitoes were the biggest problem in this resort. Overall would not revisit.
