Adults Only section in the larger Riu resort. Mid level, no spring break vibe. Service, cleanliness and comfy lounges
Adults Only section in the larger Riu resort Riu has effectively set up 3 resorts at different price points within one mega resort, most of the beachfront is occupied by Riu Palace Cabo (RPC) and Riu Palace Baja California(RPBC) are white buildings with Riu Santa Fe (RSF) multiple brown buildings behind them, accessing the beach by a path between the other two resorts. Guests at RPBC can access RPC and RSF, RPC guests can access RSF, while RSF guests can’t access either RPBC and RPC. So there is an economy, mid level, and high level resort facilities. RSF occupies a good 50% of the area, with a resort square surrounded by the restaurants, where a lot of the activities occur. It’s a typical lively family style resort with music and games and shows. RPBC is adults only, a 30+ crowd, with 2 wings of rooms. We had two Junior suites, one with two beds, the other with one king. There is an “elite” option only available through the Riu site which gives access to a few lounges and extra items in various menus. Rooms were good sized, neutral decor. There was a tub in the room, while the shower and toilet were smaller area behind doors (with a strange room partition between the two). Resort paths were spotlessly clean, with the staff intent on picking up used plates and cups as soon as they were spotted (so hold on to any half finished drinks, they will disappear if left alone for more than 5 min). The taxi from the airport dropped us off at the RPC entrance, so we had to take another cab to the RPBC entrance. So I would suggest making sure the cab driver understands where you are staying. Check in was busy but smooth, 4 polite agents working with a line of over 7-8 groups. We were assigned a room in opposite wings even though we had requested side by side units. I had to go back to the front desk to get that fixed. Mimosas were served to everyone in the check in area. Clean neutral smell. WiFi: 4 devices per room, with fast connections in the rooms and activity areas. There were a few dead spots. If you move to another riu resort, you have to log in again. So carry the login information with you (back of an envelope given at check in). TV- a few English channels with a number of international channels. Couldn’t access streaming services on the tv. Minibar well stocked with water, Pepsi and a few other sodas. Four large bottles of still water were provided, and much appreciated. Hard liquor was available in shampoo style dispensers in the room- rum, tequila, gin and vodka. Coffee maker with cups. Buffet “Promenade” was typical mid level resort/cruise ship buffet with a few reliable repeats. Fruit and juices were great as usual in Mexico. Mexican restaurant Agave had pretty decent menu, great salsa, ceviche etc. Steakhouse called Guacamole was sub standard, sadly. We tried a medium rare filet (red inside), skirt steak medium (tough to cut). The lobsters were the stars, but the fries were surprisingly bad. Cheesecake was dense, but we noticed that across other restaurants in the resort. Pool side snacks included hot dogs, tacos, fries, and what looked like grilled chicken steaks. Italiano in RPC was a highlight with some excellent fresh made to order pasta. Room service available through the app, limited menu, but decentish. Sadly I didn’t see much spice in general, and I love Mexican food. This definitely felt like a cruise ship/ airplane food level flavor. Entertainment was pretty predictable. Live music, riu parties, pool aerobics etc. Board games were available on request in the show area. Coffee bar served up some good smooth espresso. Bars were plentiful and easily accessible. Servers roamed around the pool area. We tried a few cocktails, and while they were general ok, the lime margaritas stood out as the best bet. All in all, it’s a decent mid level resort with a quieter, no spring break vibe. Service, cleanliness, comfy areas to hang out were pretty good. Food in general was blah (how did they get French fries wrong?!).
